Question

Replace a Tape Library with a new one and migrate the tapes to the new TL

Forum|alt.badge.img+5

Dear Vaulters,

We have implemented a new Tape Library(LTO9) to replace the old one(LTO8), our aim is to move the old tapes to the new Tape Library after decommissioning the old Tape Library to be able to restore the data from old tapes.

My question is what is the action plan to make old tapes readable from the new Tape Library and what would happen during the restore from the old tapes.

Appreciate your support & BR

Hi @Ahmed Elbably ,

Once Tape library is decomissioned, tapes associated with decomissioned tape library will appear on “Orphan media”, from here we can have them moved manually

LTO8 and LTO9 are compatible to read data.

Once tapes are moved from “Orphan media” to tape library , there will be no issues with read.

Regards,

Suleman

Dear Suleman,

Thanks for your reply.

Please can you provide a detailed action plan (guide) of how to do it as the data on tapes are very critical.

Appreciate your support & BR

Hi @Ahmed Elbably ,

As data is crucial, would recommend you to create a support incident as we will have to review your environment and recomend steps accordingly.

Regards,

Suleman
