Shared Disk Library

I want to configure a disk library and share it between two Media Agents running Windows Server 2022, enabling load balancing and failover. The disks are presented from a storage via FC to both servers and from these servers the same disks are accessed using the same drive or mount path.

Does the Transport Type in Share Mount Path have to be Regular on both servers?

Or, on the first server, is it configured as a local path and shared with the second as a Data Server - FC?

What is the recommendation according to best practices?

Hi @Juan Ardón ,

To configure a disk library shared between two Windows Server 2022 MediaAgents with FC-attached storage, enabling load balancing and failover, follow these guidelines:

Transport Type Configuration

  • First MediaAgent (Primary Controller):

    • Configure the disk library using the local path (e.g., G:) since the disks are directly attached via FC.
    • This MediaAgent will act as the controller for the disk library.
  • Sharing with Second MediaAgent:

    • In the CommCell Console, right-click the mount path, go to Properties, then the Sharing tab.
    • Click Share, and in the Share Mount Path dialog, select the second MediaAgent.
    • Transport Type:
      • Select Data Server - FC for sharing the mount path with the second MediaAgent.
      • This is the recommended method for FC-attached storage, as it allows both MediaAgents to access the same disks via Fibre Channel, supporting load balancing and failover.

You do NOT need to use "Regular" transport type for both servers.

  • "Regular" is typically used for local or network (SMB/NFS) paths, not for FC-attached storage.

Rohit Ravi

Thank Rohit, you very much for your response.

Is it necessary for one of the machines to be Linux in order to share Mount Paths as a Data Server - FC?
