We have Commvault server simpana version 11.28.68. In Tape library there is error for one tape “Remove the cartridge and inspect it for damage. Retry operation with another cartridge.”, but in Commvault console I do not see any error for this tape and it is used for backup.
I plan to mark that tape somehow (perhaps prevent reuse) so that it is not backed up and can be used for restore until the retention expires.

Besides marking it full, you may use “Prevent Reuse” option on the media in Assigned Media pool to prevent any future reuse of the media once the media is recycled.

Note that only spare media can be moved to the Overwrite Protect Media pool. If you wish to save data from media in the Assigned Media pool, use the Prevent Reuse option to automatically move the media to a designated Overwrite Protect media pool when the media is recycled.

Maybe a better option is to mark the tape as full and another tape would be used for backup. Also, restore would work without problems.
