Hello,
We are using a shared commcell, but we need to send tape backup to a customer.
We was thinking about restore a commserv DR backup on an other server, and then keep it on customer side in case of restore.
But we don't know if we need a licence on the restored commserv and if we can run on both in same time.
Or maybe you could know an other solution to ensure that tape backup can be used by customer without issue.

Hi @Sunil R

Not sure what a shared commcell means exactly.. could you share more details?

Could you also please elaborate / confirm exactly what the goal is here? is it redundancy of the production commserve?

If so, you’d be best served leveraging live sync if you wanted to have the fastest level of recovery https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/commserve_livesync_for_high_availability_disaster_recovery.html

However, if the ‘customer’ has a seperate commcell entirely, then this wouldn’t be an ideal situation, nor would I see much benefit in storing your commcell db to their server/infrastructure (besides another level of redundancy).

I’d leverage our db cloud upload feature https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/configuring_automatic_uploads_of_disaster_recovery_dr_backups_to_commvault_cloud.html so that you can retrieve your database from our cloud storage device if need be.

The license query is mute as its data is within the CSDB, if a disaster happened and you restored the CSDB, you wouldn’t need to re-apply the license.

Regards,

Chris
