Hello Everyone ,

In Azure We are taking daily incremental backups of Azure VM.

Retention - 15 Days 1 Cycle

We observed that Snapshots of all the VM are getting retained. When next job starts it deletes the snapshot and the latest snapshot is retained till the next backup.

We are not using Intellisnap at all.

Ideally as per process snapshot should get deleted after the backups:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/31324_backup_process.html

This is not happening resulting in increased cloud cost.

Please advise.

Hi Pratik,

it need to check on vsbkp.log on the VSA VM to find potential issue.

Azure native snapshot works well?

The backup ends correctly I guess.

Version of CS and VSA?

Here you can find list of maintenance of 2022e version:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/151669_list_of_maintenance_releases_for_commvault_platform_release_2022e.html

But in this version I don’t find fix for snap issue on Azure, for example you can find a similar issue on 20 version solved but the cause are different, it was on the backup that failed and the snapshots were hanging.

This might be the root cause → https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/31316_changed_block_tracking_for_microsoft_azure.html

Thank you.

Hello @Onno van den Berg , @Luca Marinoni and @Pratik Chaudhari

Same for me! After 2 years... even in latest 11.36.22!

In Azure VM backup (Non IntelliSnap), I also check that in Azure Portal always keep an Incremental Snapshot (of latest Commvault backup job).

Also, Im not sure why these snapshots are not deleted right after successfully backups job.

Best regards,
Nikos
