I was recently discussing with a customer.
Their wish is to backup a Datastores files only like the folder marked red in below screenshot:
this data is not presented to VM so I did not know of a way to do this.
is there any way to backup that specific folder via a VSA backup?
or will we need to present the data in a different way?

The VSA method protects the VM’s and their linked files (VMX, VMDK, LOG, etc), So I suspect anything in there not linked to a VM would not be covered.
How is this Datastore presented here? (Local Disk / SAN LUN / NFS Share)

they are trying to backup the files on the datastore itself.
this includes certain logs files, and a couple of different directories they deem important.
indeed, it is a request I have never had before, but since they ask i thought i would look at the possibility.
but I believe that the answer
just seemed like he still wanted to reply, but realize now i did not tag him, so he probably missed it.

Since this is a SAN LUN, It will be formatted with VMware’s VMFS. - I don’t think we would be able to leverage an Agent to protect the data. - If this was an NFS Share, we could have protected it with the FileSystem/NAS Agent.
Depending on the data size, you could consider copying it to an accessible location (Linux Client or Share) and then protect it? - Perhaps the use of a daily/weekly script to copy the files out could work? (If necessary)
