How long do your HyperV Intellisnap snapshots run?

We’re in the process of moving from VMware to Hyper‑V, and I’m seeing a pretty significant difference in IntelliSnap performance. Our Hyper‑V IntelliSnap jobs are averaging around 57 minutes, while the same workloads on VMware average 5 minutes.

Is this typical for Hyper‑V environments? I’d really like to hear what snapshot durations others are seeing with IntelliSnap on Hyper‑V.

Below is a chart comparing the two platforms. Each line represents a snapshot job. As you can see, the VMware jobs all complete within roughly an hour, while the Hyper‑V jobs stretch across a five‑hour window, which isn’t ideal for maintaining a tight RPO.

Thank you,

Hi @Farmer92 ,

Good day!

Ideally the snap copy in intellisnap backup should complete once the software snap and hardware snapshot is complete

Validate the hyper-v environment on how much time its taking for the checkpoint completion.

Then validate the same on the storage array end as well

Stagger the schedule and subclient content to see if it can help in improving speed

Sureshkumar, thank you for the reply.  I will try some things to optimize the times.

I was really hoping to hear from other ‘Vaulters’ on real world, Hyper-V snapshot times in their environment.

Thank you

Bill
