How VM snapshot is created?

Who is the snapshot requestor?

Who is the writer?

Hi Arvind,

For VMware backups Commvault is dependent upon the vCenter for the Snapshot operations to be performed (The Action is performed by VMware).  The Commvault VSA Proxy simply sends the request to the vCenter to create the VM Snapshot for the backup. It will also send the request to Delete the Snapshot once the VM backup has been completed.

When a Commvault requested snapshot is present on a VM, you will be able to see it in vCenter like any other snapshot. You may see a snapshot name with _GX_BACKUP_ and a description with the JobID.

Hope this helps, If you need anything specific please let us know.

Best Regards,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply. Is there any document which helps in understanding the complete process?

Yes, but they are part of the commvault training package not publicly available.
