Hi,We have a MSP customer that is backing up Virtual Machines for several customers using VMWare vCloud Director.Currently they are using the automatically created “Smart Client Group”, which is created whenever a new company is created to automatically assign Virtual Machines to these companies. In this Smart Client Group, they add a rule to include all Virtual Machines in a specific subclient that was created for this company under the vCloud Director client. This works “ok”, but it’s making this rather complex and they would like to know if it’s possible to assign a subclient/VM group to a company directly, so all new Virtual Machines that are discovered in this subclient/VM group are automatically assigned to that company. (Without the use of these Smart Client Groups)I have gone through the documentation website, but haven’t found anything specific. Does anybody else have experience with this?Jeremy
Hi,We are having an issue with a VSA Proxy Running on RHEL 8.2. (11.21.24)When we start a VM backup, the VSDiscovery phase seems to go well and complete, however the VSBackup phase hangs with error “The control process for the previous phase is still running. PID [343440]”That PID corresponds to the previous discovery phase, so it looks like that phase wasn’t closed properly even though in the logs we can see it completes it correctly. What we do observe in the VSDiscovery log is the Mono process starting a cleanup right after the VSDiscovery process ends, and we think that is what is causing our issues: VSDiscovery.log..343440 53d90 04/07 14:17:46 3526286 BKP CALLED COMPLETE (PHASE Status::SUCCESS), 3526286. Token [3526286:2:1:0:57156]343440 53d90 04/07 14:17:47 3526286 CVMWareInfo::ShutdownVMInfo() - VMDiskInfo::Shutdown complete343440 53da9 04/07 14:17:47 3526286 mono cleanup started… When we kill the PID manually and resume the job, it will complete succesfully. So I’m thinking ther

Hi all,Is there a way to hide some types of restores like “Live Mount and Live Recovery” in Command Center for a user?
Just in the past 3-4 days - we have been getting notices of servers powering off after they receive a vm snap from commvault. Its a pretty broad issue and nothing is really a smoking gun now. The only common trait is ; the same vm’s that were part of a recent migration are ones that are doing this. I was thinking about forcing a storage vmotion to true up any delta or split vmdk’s that could be causing a timeout on the snap. From the commvault side the backup is completing. - but the vm is shutdown. I will look further into properties but wanted to drop this here.
Hello Commvaunt Community, I need your opinion and support regarding the backup problem for two virtual machines. The client claims that after updating the environment to version 11.25.6, he began to observe a performance problem for one VM and the other cannot be backed up.I went down to the logs and for the task, it contains several VMs (but the problem is with one, the task takes 3 days) I found entries that are looped but I do not know what they can mean. @MediaAgent6 - VixDiskLib.log 34680 6878 11/22 10:57:41 3185939 VDDK_PhoneHome: VddkVacWriteLastMember : Empty field to serialize for key fail_function at line 271.34680 6878 11/22 10:57:42 3185939 VDDK_PhoneHome: Curl perform failed in VddkVacCurlHttpsPost with error code 7 at 1780.34680 6878 11/22 10:57:45 3185939 VDDK_PhoneHome: VddkVacPushData : Failed to post data to VC/PH at line 1719.---@MediaAgent6 - vsbkp.log34680 67b0 11/23 21:03:28 3185939 CVmdkVcb4ExtentReader::ReadBlockFromReadAheadCache() - Delay while looking for b
We already created Azure app for Azure VM agentless backup in one subscription, plan to create additional 10 subscription for business purpose, plan to backup about 100 Azure VM in each subscription, totally will increase 1000 servers backup demand.Shall we use current Azure app to cover all 11 Azure subscription backup demand? or better to create Azure app for each subscription?
Hello, When the backup copy of ec2 instances ran on some regions, I get this error message. I want to avoid to increase the IOPS region limit from AWS side. Thanks and Happy New Year!
Hello All,We have HSX deployed and few VM’s were added to backups and we tried Guest file restores. It completed successfully. However I would like to know whether the HSX nodes has ability to browse the windows VM guest files or the Commserve is being utilized to browse the guest files from VM.Also, if I have a dedicated VM with VSA installed how I can force the VM to be utilized for browsing the VM guest files. This VM should be utilized only for browse and its not required during the backup operation.Regards,Ananth
Hi,I have different backup sets (subclient) in commcell. It is possible to recall an incremental backup selecting the backup failed VMs only.Likewise is it possible to run a full backup for a particulatar subclient selecting the “Backup failed VMs” only?RegardsAsantha Fernando.
I was deployed FREL version CentOS Linux release 8.2.2004 to my VM lab to test prior to deploy it in our prod environment. The root password was predefined during the OVA deployment but upon login to i was not able to login successfully using my root password. Why is that happen? is there a default user that i can use to change the FREL root credential?
Hello All,I have configured the Nutanix VM streaming backups by using the Hyperscale nodes as VSA proxy. The backup got failed with below error:7717 1e71 12/29 16:46:56 104 CNutanixInfo::_MountVM_Streaming() - Mounting Disk [scsi-0] [f87c9f9b-e15f-4e13-afde-cbc18af752bd] fileName [/SPIProduction/.snapshot/98/6993716522296088412-1603969612779858-74798/.acropolis/vmdisk/f87c9f9b-e15f-4e13-afde-cbc18af752bd] 7717 1e71 12/29 16:46:59 104 CNFSMounter::_Mount_Unix() - failed to run mount command [timeout 30 mount -t nfs -o vers=3,ro,soft,retrans=5,timeo=600 XX.XX.XX.X:/SPIProduction /opt/commvault/ProductionData/VSA_NFSMountPoint/7717/10.94.10.5__SPIProduction] - Error: mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting XX.XX.XX.X:/SPIProduction 7717 1e71 12/29 16:46:59 104 CNutanixInfo::_MountVM_Streaming() - Failed to mount XX.XX.XX.X:/SPIProductionAs per documentation these are the system requirements for the VSAVSA proxies must have access to NFS exports from the NFS server. We recently upgraded Exchange on prem and for a few reasons it is now residing on a ProxMox cluster with the iscsi luns mounted through Proxmox instead of windows for exchange. This is all hosted on our netapp cluster. I don’t think this configuration is supported for intellisnap or app aware snaps but i wanted to be sure i wasn’t missing something or maybe there is some way to leverage proxmox to get application consistent snapshots?
Hi, When I install the Virtualization package on a client, I now have the option to also select “VSA Guest Customization” (so not only the Virtual Server Agent). What is this option used for?Thank you.
Hi, In BOL it states that it is possible to backup Azure Virtual Machines based on tags (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.25/expert/31314_defining_filters_for_content.html): “Tags (ARM): Select a tag or virtual machine owner.” However in Azure a tag consists of a name and a value. How is this going to work out? Does Commvault look at the tag alone or also at the value? Unfortunately I am not able to test this. Thanks!
Hi,Is it possible to search for a file using "find" in a vsa subclient ? I've tried but it always says it couldn't find the file. On the documentation it seems possible. Thanks
Hi Gurus,One of my customer got a restore request of a folder which accidently deleted from a vm 3-4 days back.(We are having weekly full & daily incremental backup of the vm using intellisnap.)Surprisingly when he browsing the file with Latest or Date range option, he don’t see the folder under browse result, but when he browses from backup history (incr or last full job) he do see the folder there.Ideally, he should see the file while browsing with Lastest or Date Range option also. Am I right? Also, I don’t see any option like “show deleted files..” which we have in Endpoint solutions. Thanks,Anuj
Hi all,we have following issue. From time to time, there are 5 VMs that are failing their backups because virtual disks need consolidation. It occurs once in two weeks approximetlly and affected are always the same 5 VMs. Other VMs within the same VSA proxies (Hotadd mode) are backed up without this issue. What could cause this issue and how to troubleshoot it? There is an old backup software on some of that VMs, but some VMs are without any stale backup software. Take care!
Hi,I’m trying to backup a Virtual machine (Linux) hosted on a ESXi server.I’m facing issue when triying to add a client computer and entering host credentials after choosing “VmWare Vcenter” in Virtualisation section.ESXi is in V5.5 and CommVault V11.Thank you for your help.Regards
Good afternoon all :) I currently have a ‘hybrid’ Commvault infrastructure - some physical machines, some virtual machines. My local datacenter has the Commserve as a physical server, and several physical MA’s to back up all my local systems (mix of physical and virtual machines), and I have several virtual MA’s running in cloud instances that handle backups of their associated cloud-based systems. I am being ‘nudged’ towards running *ALL* of my local CV components as virtual machines. The CommServe itself could exist either in VMware or as a Cloud instance, and my local Media Agents would then run in VMware. For some reason this makes me uncomfortable, I know virtual machines are supported for MA’s and Commserve, but to be 100% virtualized just makes me slightly uneasy, especially when I think about a VM-based MA backing up VMware machines in its own VMware instance. Don’t know why -- it just does. Is anybody else running 100% of their CV environment as virtual machines? Ass
Snapshot size being reported as Zero bytes: Should I be concerned??We usually monitor job and work on failures; however; I was investing a partial sucess warning on a server and happened to notice this zero byte snapshot for all the servers for this customer; I understand for a powered off VM this could be true however it appears to be a bit weird that the backup size has changed from one backup to another however the snapshot size is still zero. shall I be concerned and investigate it further? It seem to be happening to any VM which is hosted on VSAN storage for this customer normal datastore appear to be showing the correct snapshot size
Hello Guys, appreciate if you could help me filling the xml file as im not good with xmls i’m migrating 300+ subclients from old vcsa to a new one i’ve used the below xml file however, i dont know where i can put the destination vcenter ?what other values should be filled in vm subclient cloning.<App_CloneSubClientRequest><cloneEntity><test1/><defaultBackupSet/><VMware/><Virtual Server/><vcenter-01/></cloneEntity><subClientProperties><subClientEntity><test1/></subClientEntity><content><path/></content><vmContent><children equalsOrNotEquals="1" name="test1" displayName="test1" type=""/> </vmContent></subClientProperties></App_CloneSubClientRequest> Thank you!
Hello guys,Currently I’m backing up VMs in a Nutanix environment, and for this Plans for each VM was created for a better control and because we are using Commvault as MSP.I verified that the backups are running as expected, but I noticed that some of the backups Plans that I configured to make specific folders and directories from Windows Server instead of backup what I selected in the Plan and associated to the VM it is making a complete and incremental backup of the VM.So, I just want to see if this is a okay behavior or is something limited of the Nutanix hypervisor? Thanks,
Hi, is there any best practice for backing up tanzu environment ? thank you.
Hi, Does anyone know where there is any good / recent documentation regarding IntelliSnap and using IntelliSnap with a NetApp and / or vSphere environment? Installation, configuration, admin, or best practice? Anything I have come across seems to be date 2015. Thank you!
