Hello Everyone I’ve found that I can enable IntelliSnap backup for Google GCP VM Intances. What exactly does it mean? I am familiar with IntelliSnap for other solutions (VMware, Hyper-V and so on) and IntelliSnap makes hardware snapshot of vol/LUN when backuped data lives. I wasn’t able to find any related information how process of IntelliSnap backup within GCP VM environment works. What is the sequence, where snapshots are maintained, what is the difference between regular streaming GCP VSA VM backups and IntelliSnap ones. IBOL states “enable checkbox to run IntelliSnap”, but I am technical guy, I would like to know what does it mean ;) Any theoretical knowledge & experience? Kindest regards,M.
Hi,i have imported a VM from XenServer to vSphere with Starwind Converter. When i try to backup the machine i get this error:Other machines on the vSphere server works fine and backup without an error. How can i solve this error for that VM?RegardsDennis
Hi Team,I am receiving below error when i am trying to discover amazon EC2 instances in CommVault using . My media agent ip-*03a is present in Private subnet and has IAM role with EC2 Full access and S3 Full access attached . IAM Role which is attached to media agent - Regards,Mohit
Hi I have 2 vmware hosts connected to storage 25 TB ,the storage is almost full ,When I try to backup vms , the backup fail since there is no space to take snapshot If I shut down the VMs , I will be able to take backup immediately or not Or any advice ?
Hi everybody! We are in the middle of a storage migration at our remote site. In that site is configured the aux copy that acts as the source of the Live Sync. There the storage is going to be retired soon so we would like to know if there is a supported procedure to move locally the contents of this Selective Copy to another new one in the new storage avoiding to send the data through the WAN. Some questions about the procedure are not clear because:An aux copy between Selective Copies only copies Fulls so how can we copy the last incrementals? In order to allow the new source of Live Sync to be able to receive the incrementals from the Primary copy (headquarters) must be modified by the command:qoperation execscript -sn DisablePreviousJobsOnNewFull -si @i_SPName = 'storage_policy_name' -si @i_CopyName='selective_copy_name' -si @i_Set = '1' but we don’t know if it is possible to have 2 selective copies with the same configuration in the same Storage Policy. We would be very gr
My question: Can clients be member of two clusters? For instance, we have three hyperV hosts in a HyperV-cluster in Commvault - Can they also be a member of a Windows cluster at the same time?I tried adding the three HyperV hosts to a Windows cluster in Commvault, but it fails:Cluster group [test] configuration was saved on CommServe successfully.Remote nodes update failed: (Use force sync option to update the nodes later.)[Server1]. Reason: <There was error during initialization of information from input XML / local registry.>[Server2]. Reason: <There was error during initialization of information from input XML / local registry.>[Server3]. Reason: <There was error during initialization of information from input XML / local registry.>I am thinking this might be by design, and they are not supposed to be member of multiple clusters..?
HI team, I would like to check on the VM file level restore via FREL, the restored file is not being placed in exactly what destination i have provided from the job- instead it creates a new folder called “Volumegroup” and it follows the destination path which i gave from the job and the data is being restored there? may i know is this a right behavior to create a folder ”volumegroup” automatically? could it be due to LVM disk this mounts and creates a folder like this? pls help
Hi, We are doing streaming VSA App Aware SQL backups in VMware. In the Storage Policy - Snap Copy we can see the snap-jobs and they seems to contain VSS snapshots. After the Backup Copy the VSA and SQL jobs are listed in the Storage Policy - Primary Copy. I have set the Snap Copy with no retention (Spool) and the Backup Copy is retained for 30 Days The question is if the Snap Copy job is required or used for restores? Is there a recommendation for the Snap Copy retention when doing streaming App Aware jobs? Regards,Patrik
Hi, I have a customer who is interested in using Commvault but is using KVM on a SLES Operation System. Is Commvault Supporting this kind of environments?Kind RegardsFlorian
Hi,When I perform a "full virtual machine restore" in place of a vm without first deleting the vm in the vCenter, the VM is recognized correctly both in the vRealize environment and in the vCenter environment. If, on the other hand, I delete the VM in the vCenter before proceeding with the restore in place, the VM is no longer recognized in the vRealize environment but only in the vCenter environment.Below is a screenshot highlighting the error:
Hello community,I am trying to implement Live Sync Direct between two VMware environments. Both VMware environments contains it's own Vcenter Servers and local storage. Both VMware enivornments have a virtual MediaAgent with VSA agent installed.I’ve succesfully installed the blr drivers (VAIO) on the ESX hosts. I can configure Live Sync direct without any problems. When replicating the first VM I can see that a virtual machine is created on the target site with DR at the end as it should be. However after a couple of minutes I can see in VMware at the target site that Commvault wants to create the VM again. Because the VM is already there Commvault restarts the whole process again and after 8 minutes the same message appears again. I am using Maintenace Release 26 latest hotfixes.Any ideas?
If I add a VM to the filter list in a VM-subclient today, to stop it from being backed up, and we have 365 days monthly retention in the subclient storage policy, it will still be available for restore in june, right?Or do I need to create a separate subclient, with its own storage policy with retention details, add the VM to the subclient, run a full backup, and finally disable activity?
Has anyone recently upgraded to MR13 (11.26.13) and using Application aware VM backups for SQL encountered problems with the VSAAppAwareBackupWorkflow job getting stuck at the "Waiting for backups" task?- This appears to be an intermittent problem. It fails three out of five times.- There is no connectivity problem.- There is no mismatch between the client and host names.- The credentials used to instal application plug-ins and backup virtual machines and application data are the same.-Repaired the CV updates on the SQL clients (after which there was a successful backup and the one after that is back at hung state).- VSA jobs for VMDKs appear to be fine, and it appears that only client-based agent backups are affected. There are no crashes or error messages printed in the logs, so it appears to be hung. I have raised a Commvault support ticket a few days ago so is actively worked on, I posted on here in case anyone might have had a similar issue and could possibly advise the fix at the
Hello Commvault Community, I hope you are doing well. I come to you with a question about granular data verification for virtual machine backup jobs. The customer has a problem with the data saved on the tapes, the matter is quite heavily consulted in the Commvault support. (Incident 211108-483) Due to the current situation, the client will need to backup the entire environment. Therefore, when having problems writing data to tapes, I need to be sure which jobs may have problems with restoring task (mostly virtual machines). When a job fails with a chunk it should be a reference to JobID. I am aware of this that Commvault has a VM-Centric mechanism that divides jobs into Parent Jobs and Child Jobs, but the client unfortunately has a VMware Pseudoclient in the indexing version V1, not V2. In V1, the VM-Centric mechanism is not working. Both in the history of VSA jobs and directly in the history of the virtual machine you can see the same JobID, they are not distinguished as in the V2
I’m creating a workflow to restore a VM, start it and other steps.Snip from documentation: You must provide either the vmName or the vmGUID.If I’m using the vmName as Input, the job failes: If I’m using the vmGUID, the job is successfull: This is the log of the job.(replaced the clientname with ***CLIENT***)(replaced CS name with ***CS***)@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@Machine : ***CS***File : WorkflowEngine.log@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@12424 39 03/06 12:57:59 945831 WorkflowManager: initializing job [945831] for workflow [Test-Marc]12424 42 03/06 12:57:59 945831 WorkflowManager: starting workflow [Test-Marc] with inputs [<inputs />]12424 43 03/06 12:57:59 945831 SetActivityInputs: [Start (Start_1)] starting activity with inputs [<inputs />]12424 43 03/06 12:57:59 945831 WorkflowStep: [Start (Start_1)] completing activity with status [COMPLETED], outputs [<Start_1><system><startTime>1646
Hi there,I would like to discuss quite a common trouble.I have removed several VMs from the backup - they have been removed from "Contents of subclient" under the subclient properties. However, the backup jobs binded with these VMs cannot be aged due to the basic cycle rule . Even though, the global rule "Ignore Cycles Retention On De-Configured Clients" is set to 1. In fact, the VMs are already deleted from the vcenter (last copy of VMs is retained in the other DC). Moreover, none of these VMs are seen in CV Browser tab. So, is there any option how to bypass the basic cycle retention law and let these backup jobs aged? Of course, I could manually delete these jobs from the tapes, which is a quit unrecommended approach, isnt? Neverthless, it is the last chance to free the tapes.
We recently had to make changes (stig) to our VMware environment and changed to independent disks. From my reading on V11.20 we now have to switch to using IntelliSnap if we want to snapshot the vm servers? Is IntelliSnap another License that we have to purchase or will the option to enable IntelliSnap show up after we have defined an Array? We were using the provided VMware client to take snap shots which was working fine until the change to independent disks was made. Now we get Independent disks are not supported error.
I would like to covers about problem with Commvault. The problem concerns the configuration of the Virtual Lab functionality. When attempting to configure a policy, Commvault will not be able to "see" CV_VLAB_GATEWAY or any network configured in the VMware environment. Such a machine is in the client's Vmware environment.I will be very appreciate for help
I would need assistance to estimate the storage size for backup, as we have nearly 140 + VM’s new servers which need to be backup daily, weekly Full and monthly tape, In order procure the license from commvault i would need to provide the following details but i’m unable to get all the details as i’ve confused between application size, Total VM size, Backup size, when i download the VM’s from vCenter igot all the clients list including VM’s size but when i calculate the total Storage based storage provision space, the toal size is showing nearly 200TB but when i login to each VM and look up for used space hardly 20TB to 30 TB and few VM’s are growing daily nearly 20 GB so in my case which size i should consider and how do i calculate the total capacity and make solution for this?? Total capacity of data to be protected Total capacity of physical data Total capacity of virtual machines Total VM’s – 220? Total Physical – 12? Disk retention on both sites
Hopefully this is an easy one? When I “Show Virtual Machines” on the Client computer tab in user preferences I can see every VM that has ever existed in my environment (VMware). Is there an easier way to clean this up other than going through and right click deleting every client that I am sure will never be needed again? I realise why this would be the case as you may well need to restore a long gone VM but it’s such a mess! Thanks very much
Hi!I’ve been wondering about proxy support for OLVM. If you look at docs there is an information that one should look to RHEVhttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.25/expert/129769_oracle_linux_virtualization_manager.htmlAnd if you go down that path you will find that supported proxies are:RHEL 6.5, RHEL 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 8 and Windows 2012R2, 2016 and 2019https://documentation.commvault.com/11.25/expert/3358_system_requirements_for_virtual_server_agent_with_red_hat_enterprise_virtualization.htmlOn the other hand using link 1) you will find that there is also another link for VSA support for oVirt on KVM, And if you go down that path you will find that supported proxies are:RHEL 6.5, RHEL 7 andCentOS 6.5, CentOS 7Windows 2008R2, 2012R2, 2016 and 2019https://documentation.commvault.com/11.25/expert/31916_virtual_server_agent_support_for_ovirt_on_kvm.htmlSo both of this pages offers you somewhat different VSA requirements and it is unclear of which one should you follow. The other
Hello,I am trying to restore a Linux VM guest file to same server. I am able to browse the data and select the file that I want to restore. Problem is I am unable to browse the destination server. I am sure that I am using the correct credentials for the vCenter to browse. However I could browse Windows VMs. Here is the error I get: specified parameter was not correctAm I missing any configuration or mono is required on FRE server?Hypervisor: VMWareLFRE: CentOS7CV Version: CV11.23.17
Hello,In the documentation for setting up a Hyper-V hypervisor for backup it’s stated that the VSA need to be installed on the commserve computer, I take it thats the commcell?Whats the purpose of it being installed there? Can someone explain the Hyper-V configuration maybe. I have done vmware hypervisors but no hyper-V sofar.Appreciate all help.//Henke
Hello,What is the best solution for VMware VSA backup, use of incremental or differential backups?currently we use incremental and synthetic fulls, is there any improvement for restores to use differentials backups instead of incremental?regards Juergen
Hi Everyone,We integrated the Commvault with SNOW to create a ticket automtically for each backup failure. We are getting two ticket for each VM backup failure. On Ticket for VM failure On Ticket for Subclient status Completed with ErrorThe cause of the issue, Commvault sending two SNMP trap as per above condition. Do anyone having any solution or workaround for the issue? Thanks,Mani
