Hi, today customers are more and more thinking about hybrid solution. We got the following question: “We would like to implement an hybrid environment (one DC & AWS). In the DC, we have some physical Windows/Linux computers. In case of DR, would it be possible to convert those physical computers to Virtual machines in AWS from a backup residing in AWS?”.Well, in the Commvault documentation, I saw that the possibility exists to convert physical Windows machines to Azure (Virtualize Me). Are there any plans to convert AWS (also for physical Linux computers)? Thanks.
Is this possible or any better ideas?Problem: Remote office with a small VMware setup where CV agents on clients not permitted. If agents could be installed it would be a simple case of client-side deduplication so they could be backed up remotely. To get deduplication happening would it possible to use a VM-proxy at the remote site send backup data to the data center? The idea would be:Remote ESX → Remote Proxy …..can’t be deduped because no agent to do itRemote Proxy → data center media agent ….deduped on the proxyRestore will be obviously fully hydrated...they are prepared to live with.
Hi Guys, I have a question. Is any way to filter RDM disks that are added to VM that is a part of oVirt environment? The Customer is getting the following error during backup job: I cannot see any Disk Filter option in Subclient Properties. BOL doesn’t say anyting about diks filters, too. https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=31946.htm Is any way to exclude RDM disk, so the Customer may be sure that the backup of VM is fine? Anyway, I can see that backup status is Completed with on or more errors. Does it mean that the VM was completely backed up and only RDM disks were ignored / skipped? Rgds,Kamil
Hello,I am running CommVault V11SP20.55.I want to deploy FREL servers with Ansible but I do not found the keyword to change the root password during installation, this the playbook which I use:If anyone can help my will be great, or do have anyone the initial password which is in the OVA configured?thanks in advanceregards Jürgen
Hi team, Any one of you see the below error during VSA backup and have any fix to resolve it.Error Code: [91:113]Description: Unable to read the disk [[xxx-xxx-vsan] 14a57660-80d1-fa35-41cc-246e96388498/abn-xxx.xxxx_4.vmdk] for virtual machine [xxx-xxx] on Host [yyyyy]. Hello guys, I’m trying to delete/remove a Schedule Policy under a Subclient, but the option for removing, is not enabled:I try to run a Decouple, but I received this message:I need to remove the Schedules so the VSAppware can run with no problems. I think that I’m doing something wrong, but I can’t figure it out what it is, .
Hi,We are planning to change the setting of our current Commvault Server transport mode from Network to SAN based. However, when I check the manual, it says the SAN transport mode must a physical Server as the Proxy Server to back VMsThe fact is, we have been using Netbackup environments at somewhere else for years where the master / Media Servers doing VM backups are Virtual Machines but with HBA cards directly presented to them, so that all the datastores are visible to them. So, I’m just wondering why many backup software vendors (like Commvault) don’t support the configuration of using a Virtual Machine as the backup host for SAN (transport mode) backup VMs ? Thanks,Kelvin
My question is this. I have a single VM Backup subclient that backups up 5 VM’s. One of the VM’s I would like to remove to lower my total backup overhead. I can not delete the “Job” because there are other VM’s in it. I just want the 1 VM removed from all backups and removed from the overhead of our license. I understand that I can wait for the "data aging” to happen on the jobs but we hold them for over 1 year. And these VMs make up almost 9TB which is why I would like to remove them without waiting. Please feel free to ask any questions I would be happy to explain more. Kind Regards,Pauul
I’m in process of replacing a couple of Windows based Commvault A600 media agent appliances with Linux based media agents that are virtualized. We downsized greatly and our backup needs are a lot smaller, plus the A600s are now EOL. I’m trying to gather all best practices for configuring the Linux MA, specifically regarding disk parameters (size, blocksize, alignment,etc.). The A600s were originally built by an automated setup process built by Commvault out of box. I’m doing this all manually for the new build. My current MA houses about 10TB of data, which works out to an app size of about 45TB. My DDB currently consumes about 30GB on disk. Our needs will likely decrease over time vs increase. I plan to provide a single 12TB volume (64KB block size) for the library content and about a 100GB single volume (4KB block size) for the dedupe database. Is this OK? The A600 is currently able to provide 150TB and the setup created multiple 9TB volumes for the content library. I don’t kno
Team,From last 2 weeks we are observing performance issues with Vmware snapshot backup over SAN mode.vMware backup jobs are taking 2-3 days to complete , throughput has declined from 1 TB/hr to 50 GB/hr.The underlying backup library is healthy with no disk failures .I see in command center health report that disk pruning status as critical for global vmware deduplication policy . data aging is running on daily basis .How can i manually run pruning of DDB ? Is there any impact on running backup while pruning DDB manually. There is an option to validate and Also , what does Read, write and network % means in Average throughout which is very low .Average throughput 64.27 GB/hr(Read: 14.19%, Write: 0.83%, Network: 84.96%)Regards, Mohit
i am trying to restore the single file from the windows image backup , Received the below error "Browse failed due to error while mounting virtual machine: Internal error during Pseudomount of Guest disks." can any one help to fix the issue
Hi Team, We are looking at a requirement to deploy an RHEV-compatible backup configuration on behalf of our customer.Although I have implemented plenty of ESX configs, this will be the first RHEV, so I have a few questions. 1 - Ports required to access the RHEV Manager host .Which ones do we need to open up?I can’t see anywhere in available documentation for any ports that I may need to open, but I’m thinking that there should be. I remember in ESX that 903 (or is it 902, ha!) needs to be open so I would expect this to be similar for RHEV. 2- The VSA Proxy - Does this introduce another Media Agent for us to manage? So if, or when we install the VSA client onto our RHEV vm, am I correct in assuming that will also install the Media Agent component? And if it does, we obviously have another server to manager and maintain patch levels etc etc. 3 - RHEL 7.7The vm’s are running at RHEL 7.7 which I think is XFS filesystem by default. What do we do if we need a granular restoration of a file?Do
HiWill the Virtual Server Snapshot Agent support Hyper-V Storage spaces at some point in the future(Or is there some support at the moment? BOL indicates the Snapshot Engine for VSAs is only VMware VSAN/VxRail) Many thanks in advance
Hi Is there any document for best practice for backup policies for different databases, VMs and file system Regards
Hey Commvault Community. We are an MSP provider running a VMWare Cluster to host our Clients. The environment has an NSX so each client has their own network that is managed. Basically from the documentation and my calls with support we don’t have a a solid solution to doing App-Aware backups. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten a similar setup where they have App-Aware backups working?
We have a physical server running CV 9 that we, unfortunately, need to keep running. In an effort to protect ourselves as much as possible, we have P2V’d that server into vmware. When the VM came online, I was able to recover backed-up data from its media agent… but when I tried to backup NEW data to that same media agent, I got an error: “Failed to mount media [name] with mount path [location] on media agent [MA name]. Folder1 already exists. Choose a new mount path.” Or something very like that. The mount paths on the media agent are its drives E, F, and G.That media agent had been working fine on the physical server.I don’t really understand why this problem should exist simply because we’re using a VM now.I’m happy to answer any questions about this machine. I’m hoping someone may have a clue as to why recoveries work, but backups don’t.

Hi,We have a new customer. They want to use VMware continuous replication. They have 1 vCenter with 3 clusters at the source site and 1 vCenter with 1 cluster at the destination site. Commvault document says;https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/106002_system_requirements_for_continuous_replication.html“Two access nodes (VSA proxies): One at the source site and one at the destination site.”https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/106456_known_issues_for_continuous_replication_in_command_center.html“Only one proxy at the source site and one proxy at the destination site can be used for replication. Multiple proxies and proxy failover are not supported.”We think we can deploy 1 proxy for each cluster. Is it right? If so, can i use 3 source proxy with 1 destination proxy? Regards,İbrahim
Hello, For some reason i don’t know yet, my vcenter’s intellisnap backup failed since several days. Snap job passed, but backup copy never passed. Now i have a problem with snaps size and dates, my storage team ask me what to do. I would like to fully cancel this job but when trying to kill backup copy it still relaunch immediately, and want to clear the snaps history related to this job (vcenter, even if it does not seem to be problematic here, but storage too). In other words, how can i really cancel an intellisnap composed job to clear all, please? Thanks in advance. Regards.
Hi All,I had some issues with VM replication terminating with error. After marking for full sync the replication finished successfully. Now the problem is that every following replication replicates the same amount of data as the full replication did. Because full replication takes 7 days to complete I would like to avoid deleting the target VM and configuring the replication from scratch. What could be the reason for replicating such huge amount of data? How could it be fixed?Regards,Lubos
Is Commvault able to manage Vmware guest, Array to Array based replication with Pure Storage arrays? In the documentation it looks like it can do it for NetAPP. I would love to be able to set this up with my Pure Storage arrays.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.21/essential/123160_array_based_replication_for_virtual_machines.htmlAlso in the Array management portion of the Java GUI. For the Pure Storage array I do see some fields about target array for replication… but I can not find much about it..Thank you,
In looking through the topics around communication with Clients in firewalled environments there is the discussion around using host files on those clients when no DNS resolution is possible. In configuring a cvfwd.txt distribution file in the client group there doesn’t appear to be a way to also include the IP addresses of the Media Agents or Commserve. There is the notion of the Network Proxy Appliance, however again we have a DNS dependency. For small groups of clients it doesn’t make sense to deploy said appliance, rather hosts file seems more reasonable. If the cvfwd.txt file contains the names of the Commserve and Media Agents why not give us the ability to control the IP address used ( for NAT”d networks ), and just leverage the current IP’s of the Commserve and MA’s if appropriate ( for non-NAT’d networks )?Looking for a reason why the hosts file is the chosen method here, rather than providing all that functionality right in the cvfwd.txt file?
Hi,after i do the latest vCenter Update to 7.0.2.00400 Build 18356314 i get in my virtual machine agent the following error:Error creating virtual machine snapshot. Permission to perform this operation was denied. Snapshot creation attempt took [00:00:00]The error only occur at the vCLS, see screenshot: Anyone an idea what this can be?ThanksDennis
Hi,we use Commvault Simpana 11 with a TB licence model.I backup my Windows fileserver with a file agent and i plan to migrate this to VMWare virtual server agent. How is the behavior because of the TB capacity?Do i need 6 tb for the transition period until the data from the file server agent is aged out? Thanks and RegardsDennis
With a vcenter migration to a new vcenter what happens to the job history after the vm has been moved? Let say perhaps there is a infinite retention set on job and the vm is moved to the new vcenter, does that job now need to be deleted? Thanks
