Hi all, one short question regarding hyper-v data reader and auxcopy to tape. When i´m using 10 Data readers during the vsa backup job and i would like to copy this job to tape did commvault user 1 Stream because its only one backup job or did commvault use 10 streams for the auxcopy. As i know for vmware i must take the vsa v2 agent to get multi streams for auxcopy but regarding hyper-v maybe you can give me an quick hint. Thanks
We had a customer who did not make any changes and all of a sudden their backup size had almost doubled; the backups are configured using Commvault VADP. We host the VM in a shared VMWARE Cluster for them. I think they added only one addtional VM and the backup size increased in all the VMS The customer was really concerned with this high bill as we bill them on Backup size; I was looking online and found that this could happen due to thick provisioning and disks are not zeroed and running sdelete utility might help. How is this backup size calculated. I thought if the customer had thin disk provisioning this backup size would be total of what the customer is utilizing however that does not appear to be the case; one of the VM with VM size of 80GB and used size of 40 GB is still showing a backup size of 80GB; so a bit confused; and wondering if we run sdelete would this be resolved or would this reoccur and what caused this issue. Please see the screenshot below from Aug and Sept 20
Hi,I will be very appreciate for help.I would like to run automatic virtual machine backups tests. Could I ask for an instruction where this functionality will be configured?Thank you in advance!
When backing up VM (on VMWare) with SQL, event log is filled with error:The device, \Device\Harddisk4\ ……. is not ready for access yet. At this moment only IntelliSnap is enabled and under Backup Options, File system and application consistent backup selected. Any suggestions?
Need to know do the Commvault support RedHat OpenStack backup
Hi All.In a scenario where you have Vmware snapshot backups of AD servers (2016/2019), would it be possible to do a Vmware restore of the server, and get it up and running again, if one AD server out of two has crashed? Are there any considerations or things that have to be done after the restore, before its working as a domain controller in a pair of two domain controllers again ? Or what would best practice be on a AD server running in vmware? Regards-Anders
Hi,In the Command Center, unlike the Commcell Console, there are not all types of restore.Obviously I log in on both consoles with the same company and the same user.
Dear community,I am trying to restore an ec2 instance to VMware on premise.Actually we do that manually but if I can do it by Commvault that will be very helpful.here is the log file for the restore job The VM is created on VMware but I think that the transfer of data is not done correctlymore informations.on premise we do direct SAN transport mode.when I cross restore if I leave the default settings it uses the nbd mode. Hello, We have a kvm server, running virtual machines, Is there a way to backup the VMs and not just the file system? in order to be able to restore a vm and not just the files. thanks.
Hi all, Trying to perform a Application Aware backup of a virtual server that is running a SQL instance. Already installed the commvault agent with the following options:FileSystem FileSystem Core SQL Serverwhen running a VM level backup with the option Application Aware selected, the job shows the following message: No applications were found that are eligible for Application Aware backup.Treating this as a success. Can anyone help sort this out? thanks
The server admins are considering bitlocking VM machines and maximizing security. My assumption is the best way is a regular VMware backup without an agent being installed. If they ever wanted to do a restore, then restore to whole guest and leave to the server admins to copy from the restored guest back to the source. The boxes are medium to small sized Ques: At restore time is CV capable of creating a browsable contents of a bitlocked VM guest?Storage is disk, will doing live recovery contents generation
In customer environment there is a network separation in place. There are 3 VLANs1) VLAN1 - vcenter / esxi host management2) VLAN2 - MediaAgent / backup network3) VLAN3 - NFS storage networkESXi hosts are configured in VLAN1 (management network) and VLAN3 (NFS storage network)MediaAgent is configured in VLAN2 and VLAN3 (NFS transport mode)This works great for backups and restores, but since VLAN3 is not routed a LiveMount feature does not work - an ESXi host can't mount NFS from MediaAgent. AFAIK that is because since VLAN3 is the storage network, ESXi host will try to mount NFS using that network. Unfortunately it cannot reach main MediaAgent NIC in VLAN2 (that is a network interface that MA hostname is resolved to). Switching to MA NIC in VLAN3 is also not the answer since it is not routed and can't reach ESXi host management in VLAN1. Since it is a Commvault ↔ VMware traffic DIPs also cannot be used.A solution could be if there is a way to tell Commvault software which MA IP address
HelloI have a Windows 2008R2 VM files servers of 18TB that I backup by VM only with a name XXI will change the server by another VM windows 2019 with a name XY that I will copy the files (18 TB)When the copie is done I will close VM - XX and rename VM XY in XX.How the deduplication will handel the copied data in the back end ? I have 14TB off free space. What is the best way to backup a large VM like that. Continue by VM backup or switch to File system backup with CV Agent ?Thanks in advanceSL
Hi all, Maybe a silly question, but if a bunch of files exist on one VM and are copied to another VM, are they deduplicated against each other? Or are they considered unique? In this example, Hyper-v backups with cbt on 2012 hosts, crash consistent.VM01\E:\Docs\ has 10,000 word documentsVM02\F:\Files\ has exactly the same 10,000 word documents VM01 is Windows Server 2008R2VM02 is Windows Server 2012 Thanks all.
Hi Team,I have an environment with three big virtual machines, aprox 30Tb each one, I have configured a subclient for each one. The last synthetic jobs are requiring to much time and during this time (more than 100 hours) the daily incremental jobs are queued. Do you know if there is any possibility to avoid it? in other words, is it possible to run both, the Synthetic full and incremental jobs, simultaneously?Thank you
How to add Huawei Fusion cloud open stack with identity access management instead of keystone??
Hello,I have commvault backup server and two media agents, one media agent installed on backup server and other installed on a special machine. I have installed vsa server and FRE server separately on each machine on Citrix virtualization. Before the backup of the virtual machine was placed on a media agent that is on citrix virtualization.I have now backed up the virtual machine successfully but to the Tape library via another media agent. When I do a restore from a virtual machine I have an error Best regards,Elizabeta
Hello,I am looking for best method/practices to perform the backup & restore of the infrastructure as detailed below.VMWare environment with Datastores coming from NetApp storage.NetApp LUNs are also presented to ESXi servers and mapped to multiple Linux VMs (generally 4 VMs) as RDM LUNs in the physical compatibility mode. OS can see the LUNs as Direct Access LUNs.4 x VMs are in Clustered environment running Veritas Cluster. The clustered file system are on either of the node at a time and application run from that node.We are not using IntelliSnap, even if I configure IntelliSnap (NetApp) I think taking image level backup of the VM including RDM LUNs would not be sufficient. Thanks in advance for your response.Regards,Jaspreet
I am trying to make sure that all the backup copies finsih successfully without making the overall media agent slow.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/101443_turning_off_parallel_backup_copy_capability.htmlI have Subclients 1,2,3,4,5,6 datastores going to SP copies (snap, disk, tape).I want to make sure that the backup copies run serially. So have created a schedule to start the backup copy job automatically every 120 minutes. Do I need the above key or the backup options setting → No of Jobs to Run: No. of Simultaneous Jobs to run =1 > Run all the backup copy jobs serially? Will this also affect the synthetic fulls backups so that they are triggered one after the other every 2 hours?
Hi, I will be very appreciate for help. Could not start server after restoring from Commvault backup > https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/87275_restoring_full_virtual_machines_for_vmware.htmlDuring the recovery process, a virtual machine with disks is created, but when the machine is started, the machine is reconfigured, as a result of which the server does not start and only the recovery windows mode appears.Windows server 2012 R2 version being restored. VMware ESXi 7.0.1Also backup is fine - I try form another backup and see the same problem I find error : Entering Required Firewall Settings for the VSA with VMware - but backup is working so it nor problem with connection. Extra information from logs:The Windows Dedupe content will backed up as OPTIMIZED_FOR_RESTORERESTOREIDX raw partition option and no stubs option remain disabledThe failed byte count does not include files that failed due to seek errorThis is NOT a WOW64 system state restoreIndexingV2 is enable
Hi, Does anyone know if Commvault version 20 till 25 is compatible with vmware 7.0.3?Or is it better to wait for a few weeks? Thanks, Danny
Hello,I have installed Simpana 11.20 on commvault backup server srvbck (on this machine is also installed media agent which serves backup on Tape library)Also I have four virtual machines, vsa-agent (which is installed on Citrix virtualization platform) and another media agent htmmediaagent1 which serves backup virtual machines. The backup is located at the htmmediaagent1 server location.I should add more virtual machines(which are located on different virtualization platforms) for backupon the Tape library. Then another media agent would be used for backup srvbck… My question is:Do I need to have another vsa agent installed (on other virtualization) to back up virtual machines to the Tape library?Do I need to have a separate all agents installed on for each virtualization?Thank you!Best regards,Elizabeta
Can someone confirm from Commvault that in the case where DASH fulls are ran along with incrementals and the tape copy is synchronous, does the aux copy job (from disk to tape) essentially make it possible to restore any VM to the point it was last backed up, regardless of whether a full or inc happened last? Meaning it does not have to stitch together all sorts of incs. but rather takes the guesswork out of it so similar to restoring from disk, whenever you tell it to restore “to” those incremental jobs seen in the tape copy are essentially “fulls”? This is what I see when browsing media and comparing full jobs to inc’s - same exact file sizes and content for each VM. I didn’t think the intelligence was in there but at the rate the tapes are being consumed, it does indeed seem like every inc is basically converted to a full before writing to tape.Is that observation correct? If so, that is perfect.thanks
OVF Properties backup possibility in commvault?
Hi, We are having a problem with our Netbackup setup with HotAdd mode to backup our VMware, i.e. if the Proxy Server takes more than 4 VMs to backup at the same time, loads of VMs would fail with the below error messages.“Error opening the snapshot disks using given transport mode: hotadd Status 23” In other words, this Proxy Server can backup no more than 4 VMs at the same time. OK, I admit that this is a problem in our Netbackup environment but I feel that I may get some help by posting this question here in Commvault forum because Firstly, the reason why we are testing this HotAdd transport mode within Netbackup environment is because we intend to deploy the same technology in the coming months in our another backup environment which is Commvault. Also, at the moment, the Netbackup support seems to be at their wits’ end (which does make me feel a bit disappointed). But, on the other hand, the issue seems to be more connected to the VMware environment and its associated configuration
