Hello guys, Just a quick one.As I know, after VM backups’s completed, snapshot is automatically removing from VM.Is any way (Additional Setting, etc.) to keep VM snapshots after backup’s copleted? Rgds,Kamil 

Hi,we have a unix (ubuntu linux) cluster and installed commvault on all three nodes. After that I created a “unix cluster” with there three nodes with the virtual cluster IP.I could do a backup for the cluster filesystem, but after a failover of the cluster filesystem to another cluster node, the backup failed. It still tries the backup on the previous node. So I think the local commvault agents didn’t notice the node change. Is there any chance to trigger the node change to the commvault agent?As a workaround, I restarted the commvault agent locally, but a solution for running services would be better.Thanks,Janko

We had to move the VSA backups to the second data center because the backup storage in the first data center filled up and we can't delete any data. Since this has been moved, the whole thing has been running very slowly. Transport Mode is still SAN but it only backs up one VM instead of 15 at a time.You can clearly see the throughput between SP_Alsterdorf_Standard and the change to SP_Norderstedt_StandardBoth media agents are set up so that both can access the backup storage and the production storage. Does anyone here have a quick solution to this problem? Kind RegardsThomas

Hello, How’re you? Need a hint please:I’ve a vm backuped as a vm under its vcenter And an agent for a specific fs backup on it As i’ve indexing v2 enabled, i see both backup types under the same commvault inventory entity, with 2 agents: fs + virtual server (virtual agent for vm backup) Since i’ve probably made a mistake (i had to wipe/merge manually entities because of strange double reference for vm backup in inventory), when i try a full backup on the virtual server/backupset/subclient, i’ve already done 2 weeks ago with success, i get an error “there is no license available”So:I’ve licence enough I can’t find by myself how to re-enable licence on this vm  entity Do you have an hint please? Thanks in advance. Regards.

As topic says, are backup and restore of Hyper-V shielded vm’s (Guarded Fabric and Shielded VMs overview | Microsoft Docs)  supported ? And if so, are there any special configuration needed on the Commvault side ?

Hi.I have trouble with some new vm’s with sql installed which we backup using intellisnap feature. normaly this works automatically commvault detects the databases and take fullbackup and creates logbackups aswell. not on those though the vsa says it cant find any application and moves on. when i login to the vm’s i notice that there are lots of instances of commvault client linstalled looks like it installs a new one each time backup is running. i have double checked that the commvault account has access to the databases. there ar other vm’s with sql installed on the same datastore as those that works fine.any input is much appreciated.

When I browse a VM for “guest Files and Folders” (file and print server) from Hyper-V backups I see duplicate drive letters. The VM has 14 drives. This changed after a certain date and only occurs for 1 specific client. The other 2 VMs (also FnP servers) are okay. Drive letters are as they should be.Drive letters are C, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, P, Q, R, S, T, but when I browse for recover, I see C, C, F, F, G, G, H, H, I, I, J, J, L, L. The contents also do not match. E.g. when I browse both Cs display contents for the actual F drive.If I browse the “Virtual Machine Files” I can see the correct drives (vhdx files) listed.I have tried from different copies, but all are the same.1st copy is a snap, 2nd is backup copy and 3rd off-site copy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,We had a backup of a virtual machine that backed up on a host that wasnt included in calculations for VM Socket licensning. I have moved the virtual machine to a host that was included in the VM socket licensning and have taken an incremenmntal and Synthetic full (which in job properties show as being on the hypervisor host i expect) yet the VM Socket licensning is still showing as using a VM Socket license for the “extra” host.This has been the case for a few days so licensning would definitely have been refreshed.Any help to release this licnese would be appreciated.Thanks

Existing Commvault Tool

I’m trying to backup a virtual server but I got the following error.Error Code: [19:857]Description: Error creating virtual machine snapshot. The operation is not allowed in the current state of the host. Snapshot creation attempt took [00:00:01] Check readiness show no Issue.The error in vsbkp.log:NOTE: all other virtual server backups work fine

Failed to backup virtual server Error code 19:857description: error downloading virtual machine config file only 2 virtual servers failed to be backed up, all other virtual servers backup work properly

Are there any issue and/or does Commvault support the CommServe in allowing VMware to Vmotion the CommServe from one esx server to another esx server while the Commvault CommServe services are running? Thanks

HiWe are building new datastore’s on a new storage array. We used many 4 TB datastores in VMWare which would limit the amount of VM’s within the datastore for the backups. We are thinking about doubling the size of our datastore’s to 8 TB considering the size of VM’s now a days. My question being is there a best practice or a max number of VM’s within a datastore backup using the IntelliSnap process? Are we better off using many 4 TB datastores versus fewer 8 TB datastores for VMWare IntelliSnap backup’s? ThanksNeil 

Hi there,I would like to discuss following issue. In the content of the backup subclient there is a bunch of VMs. Unfortunately, some of the VMs are from time to time disabled from backup, some of them are powered off, some of them can not be snapshotted due to SRM. It leads to the problems with aging of the backup jobs mainly due to cycle rules.My question is how to handle this situation and to enable data aging of backup jobs on tapes when VMs in the vcenter cannot be backed up for some time. As per my assumption, the only solution is to set retention cycle to 0. What is your approach for such circumstances?

Hi guys, I would like to seek your help, im trying virtualize me feature. VM powered on but it is stuck at 5% saying “waiting for configuration restore to start” i dont know if how will it proceed.  

I am in process of configuring VSA backup but looking for best practice to attain better performance. what’s recommendation for maximum VMs per sub-client? Maximum data store LUNs can be presented  to proxy machine?

We have had a EL7 File Recovery Enabler for Linux (FREL) for 4 years now. I believe when it was initially deployed we were on V11, Service Pack (before you called them Feature Releases) 13.But now we’re starting to move to EL8 VMs so after coming across this issue with our couple of backed up EL8 VMs, I figured it was time to deploy a new FREL for EL8.However, in my admin console, because we already have an existing FREL, “linuxrestore” my options for step 5 in your instructions where I should be seeing a “deploy new FREL VM” option, simply doesn’t exist. I can either choose my existing linuxrestore FREL, or “not set”.What am I supposed to do in this situation?

Hi Everyone, Just writing in to check if we have any documents related to Vmware Vsan NFS file shares ( it is only released in vsphere 7 update 2) ? Hi there!I would like to discuss the following backup job issue. There are some VMs, that failed to be backed up due to the failure reason - VM is not in a connected state. In fact, these VMs are powered off in the vcenter. I was looking for how to cope with this type of issue, but I didnt find any relevant resources.So, my question is how to deal with this situation. The VMs should be powered off, but backups should be running as usual. Is there any workaround in the CV?

Hello, does anyone have any advice on this error during a VM restore test?ERROR CODE [91:379]: Host [] was not found to restore VM [].Source: CVMA01, Process: cvdOne thing I found is that Check Readiness fails when ran on the vcenter. Its pointing to a virtual (VA) server that no longer exists. Only the physical MA is present. I suspect this is the issue. Is there any way to change it to use the physical MA and not this missing VM? I do not know why the VM was removed or why the physical MA is not the server being pointed to for jobs. The interesting thing is that the backup jobs are completing successfully like nothing is wrong. When I look at Browse and Restore, all of the servers VMDK files are marked as “Unavailable” but the other files (log, vmx, vmxf etc)  on each VM have date stamps. 

I need help, all my jobs are failing with the same error below.  

Hello, I would like to set up a HotAdd node in our vcenter. We have already deployed a VM with Windows Server 2022. Is there any kind of How to guide to do the Commvault part here ? 

HyperV backup is failing to backupk 30 or so VM.   The failed VM shows this error: “Virtual machine has snapshots older than configured expiry threshold hours. The backup encountered errors while removing expired snapshots for the virtual machine. Please try removing them manually and retry backup.”Removing the expired snapshots?  Where?
