Hi Everybody,

I have a question about migration of Hyper-V virtual maschines that are backed up via Acronis Cloud. We want to restore this machines from the Acronis backup directly to our vCenter with Commvault.
Is this possible and how to realize it?
For my understanding I have to install the Acronis virtual machine agent and the Commvault virtual machine agent on the same vCenter. The Acronis agent is needed to restore and migrate the backed up virtual machines directly to the vCenter and the Commvault virtual machine agent is needed for the backup of the virtual machines with Commvault.
But is this possible to install both agents on the same vCenter or I’m completely on the wrong way?

For migrating the backed-up data from Acronis to Commvault, kindly restore the VM to the vcenter first.

The Virtual Server Agent can be installed on one or more machines, so that those machines can serve as VSA proxies for Commvault. A VSA proxy manages backup and restore operations for guest VMs in your environment, eliminating the need to install agents on guest VMs.

The Virtual Server Agent can be deployed on physical servers or virtual machines.

Typically you would not want to install anything on vCenter - yes you will need another machine that has the virtual server agent to perform VM backup/restore operations - but installing agents on the actual VMware vCenter machine is not a good idea.

 

Generally, multiple VM backup products can be in use on the same environment without issue. You wouldn't want backup schedules to overlap for the same VMs (that would create a snapshot mess), but it sounds like you only want to facilitate restores with Acronis, which should be no issue.

you are both right, I was on the wrong way as I thought that the virtual server agent will be installed on the vCenter, but it isn’t so. We have it also installed on the MediaAgent what the right way is. Then for the migration I will set up a new virtual machine with the Acronis VMware Agent to restore the Acronis backups directly to the vCenter and after that I can backup the machines from vCenter with the Commvault MediaAgent as usual.
