Dear Commvault Support Team,

We are facing an issue with the Nutanix AHV VM backups for the ***S02 environment.

The backup jobs were working successfully for the past approximately two years using the same Commvault Access Node. However, the issue started occurring approximately two days ago, following a firmware upgrade performed on the ***S02 Nutanix host/cluster.

Environment Details

  • Commvault Version: [11.44]

Issue Description

The same Access Node has been successfully taking backups for both ***S01 and ****CS02 for the past two years.

Currently, backups for ***CS01 are running successfully, whereas backups for ****S02 are failing.

The backup job fails before processing the VM disks with the following error:

We also observed the following error in the Commvault logs:

Troubleshooting Performed

  1. Verified that the hostname resolves to IP.
  2. Verified connectivity from the same Access Node to the Nutanix environment.
  3. Verified that the same Access Node is successfully backing up the***S01 Nutanix environment.
  4. Verified VM browsing from the Commvault subclient. We are able to browse and discover the VMs under ***S02.
  5. Verified Prism connectivity on port 9440.
  6. Customer confirmed that no IP addresses are currently configured in the Nutanix Prism Element Filesystem Allowlist.
  7. The customer confirmed that a firmware upgrade was performed on the ***S02 environment approximately two days ago, which coincides with the start of the backup failures.
  8. We reviewed a similar issue reported in the Commvault Community where removing the Access Node IP from the Nutanix Filesystem Allowlist resolved the NFS mount issue. However, in our environment, the customer has confirmed that the Filesystem Allowlist is empty.

Request for Commvault Support

Kindly assist us in investigating why the Access Node is unable to mount the NFS share from ****CS02 after the recent Nutanix firmware upgrade.

As the same Access Node and backup configuration are working successfully for ****CS01, we would like Commvault Support to review whether there are any compatibility issues or changes required after the Nutanix upgrade.

Please let us know the required logs and any additional troubleshooting steps

Hi @vallapu umesh ,

Kindy make sure you don’t include Personal Identifiable Information (PII) like hostnames and IPs on public community posts,

Regarding the issue, you did pretty good troubleshooting but you missed to check port 111 as per the error message,

please use cvping from the access node to Nutanix CVM-IP (NFS server) ~ “**cpcs02” on ports 111, and 2049

Also, please try to add the access node on Nutanix whitelist
