I have a virtual server iDA in my environment that was used as a proxy to backup a vcenter client.

That vcenter is now switched off and so is the virtual server.

Just want to check/confirm that the simple way to “clean up” in the Commcell is to “Retire Client” on both?

Obviously this will keep the old backups until they age out.

Thanks :)

Yes take a look at the following: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/essential/115539_retiring_server_01.html

a retire will try to uninstall the software , if there is data that still available to restore, the client will move to a deconfigured state until the retention is met.

I assume the proxy you are speaking about is a Media Agent,  In that case the retire client workfloww will not work on a media agent.  Here is what is on Books Online for Retiring a Media Agent:

Thanks @Nick M , this is just a dedicated VM which is the backup proxy.

One question is does it matter at all which order I retire the proxy client and the VMware client in?

@Paul Hutchings

If your deleting an entire VMware client, you can just delete the client first them uninstall the proxy and deconfigure.
