I received this message from a customer…

We would like some information on the refresh Datacenter option for VM backups.

This looks to have resolved one of our issues with VM tags recently.

We are trying to determine whether the following happens.

  1. Does this occur normally on a regular basis?
  2. How often should we run it manually?
  3. What is being done when it is run?
  4. What is the impact of it running?
  5. How often should we run this?
  6. Can / should we workflow this to run regularly?

Thank you

Hi @DMowers

To answer your questions:

1. This should not occur often, personally had to use it only a few times in over 10 years

2. Only when you encounter issues identifying the VM's

3. It queries datacenters within vcenter and updats virtual machine information and status.

4. None other than aligning inconsistencies regarding VM info

5. Same as nr 2, when you encounter issues. But if you have regular issues you could schedule it. I would rather investigate the query issue with vcenter, might be resolved with a more recent vsphere build or alignment of vddk usage might be incorrect on the vsa node performing the query.

6. Can yes / should no
