I have a question about the wals backup.

If the commvault backups the archive wals and deletes them ( i have the option enabled), what happens to the wal files?

Do they just pile up?

hello @arik

If you have the option enabled to delete the WAL files after a successful backup, they should not pile up. Instead, Commvault will remove those files once the backup is confirmed as successful.

Hello @Mohamed Ramadan

Thank you for the answer ,

I meant what happens to the wal files that didnt get archived.

hi @arik ,
I hope you are doing well ,

The WAL files that weren't archived will usually stay on the PostgreSQL DB servers. Commvault processes typically apply to archived backups only, so you can manage the unarchived WALs with PostgreSQL's cleanup tasks. For more details, please refer to this document:
https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/pgarchivecleanup.html

Additionally, if you want everything centralized through Commvault, you can use the “Pre/Post Process” feature to run a Bash script (for Linux) or PowerShell (for Windows).

I hope this helps! 😁
