We’re investigating creating a virtual disk, attaching it to our Windows file server, and encrypting it with Bitlocker to use as a “restricted data drive” in order to meet requirements for our client data agreements. While looking into how Commvault handles Bitlocker encryption, I’ve found that the drive must be unlocked to be backed up, and that file-level browse and restore may/will not be possible, given that the data is encrypted. I have two questions:
- If the Windows File System agent is installed, does this allow for file-level backup and restores?
- How does deduplication work on a Bitlocker-encrypted drive?
