Hello

I am planning to upgrade the CommServe from SP 11.36 to SP 11.40.

The CommServe and Web Server are installed on the same VM, running Windows Server 2022 with SQL Server 2022.

Is it sufficient to start the upgrade directly from the CommCell Console, or would you recommend using the Media Kit instead?

Also, are there any specific things I should pay close attention to during the upgrade process?

Hi @Egor Skepko,

Good day!

Update your software cache with SP40

On the instance001 on the commserv do it from media kit.

All other machines you can do a push install.

Note : Make sure you have all prechecks completed (DR backup/Disable scheduler etc...)

Upgrade sequence : commserv → webserver → Media agents → client

Regards,

Sureshkumar S

11.40 uses SQL 2022 so you shouldn’t need it but yes, the installer will upgrade SQL if needed and selected. Note that you should expect some anomalies post upgrade that you may have to correct and account for. We ran into a few when upgrading from 11.32 to 11.40. You didn’t mention if you are running LiveSync but if you are, make sure you account for that during the upgrade process. Good luck!

Hi @Egor Skepko ,

While downloading bundle if you select full package it will have sql packages included

Installer is intelligent enough to upgrade sql if required automatically

Hi @Egor Skepko ,

Kindly refer to the pre-upgrade precautions below and proceed with initiating the upgrade using either the Full Media Installer or the Java Console.

Pre-Upgrade Precautions:

  1. Perform a Disaster Recovery (DR) backup before starting the upgrade. This is a critical prerequisite to ensure the CommServe can be recovered in the event of an upgrade failure or unexpected issues. You may also take snap shot if CS is hosted on VM.

  2. Ensure that the hardware requirements and system prerequisites are met before proceeding with the upgrade. Please validate the server specifications against the requirements outlined in the document referenced below.

Once the above checks have been completed, you may proceed with the upgrade.
