We have renewed the support/maintenance contract for the CommCell via the Maintenance Advantage portal and received a new license XML file.
Current license configuration:
License type: Permanent
Mode: Production
Support/Maintenance: Expired ==> so we renewed this one for 1 year
Question:
Before applying the new license XML file :
Will applying the new license file maintain the permanent license type, or will it change the license structure?
The customer is concerned that applying the renewed support license might:
Remove or modify the existing permanent license entitlements
Convert from permanent to term/subscription licensing
Impact production backups
My expectation is this license file only update the support/maintenance expiration date But I need to prove it to the customer Can you help me please
Thanks. Best regards,

Hi @Tahait
Renewing the support/maintenance contract for your CommCell does not automatically require a new license file. However, there are some important considerations:
If your license is perpetual and you are only renewing support/maintenance (not adding new features or capacity), you typically do not need a new license file. Your existing license remains valid, but your entitlement to support, updates, and upgrades continues as long as your maintenance is active.
If your license is subscription-based or if you are increasing capacity, adding features, or making other changes, you may receive a new license file reflecting those updates. In this case, you must apply the new license file to your CommCell.
How to confirm your license type: If you are unsure whether your licenses are perpetual or subscription-based, or if you need to know whether a new license file is required, contact Account Manager.
Renewing support/maintenance alone does not always require a new license file.
Changes to license entitlements (capacity, features, subscription renewal) may require a new license file.
