Hi all!

I would like to discuss following situation. We are unable to override retention under plan. After turning on the option on “Override restrictions” to give permission to “Allow this plan can be overridden” than select changing the value to “Override optional/required and clicking OK we see no real changes performed.

Is it possible that this setting is somewhere blocked or overwritten by another settings?

Hi @tam

Yes, this behavior can happen. Retention and override settings can be blocked or effectively ignored by other plan/copy controls.

Possible causes

  • Plan is a derived plan and inherits retention from a base plan - retention can only be changed on the base plan unless the derived plan has the specific storage/pool override enabled.
  • The storage copy itself is protected by Compliance/Immutability lock or dual‑approval workflow - retention changes are blocked or require approvals.
  • Dual‑approval settings are enforced for retention reductions or copy changes.
  • The user/role editing the plan does not have the required Plan Edit permission in Command Center.
  • The override setting was saved but some individual override values are constrained by the plan’s current override-state rules (e.g., some override transitions are limited).
  • A plan‑rule or company/tenant scoping may be re‑applying or preventing visible changes (automatic assignments or inheritance).
