Hello Commvault Community,

Is it correct for the global admin to become the team owner when restoring Teams? The logs indicate that the global admin is removed, but in reality, he becomes the team owner for the restored structure.

00000 xxxx  abc Adding global admin user[globaladmin@example] for team[xyzabc]

00000 xxxx abc Successfully added the global admin user for the team[xyzabc]

00000 xxxx  abc TeamsRestoreHandler::restoreconversation() - Successfully restored Topic[0123].

00000 xxx  abc ExRestoreWorker::DoWork() - Processing complete for stream: Processed items [1], failed items [0], skipped / Non Eligible Items[0], bytes read: MB[], time taken: min[0], Stream number [1], of worker[], Total items assigned to worker [1], File items returned from indexing [0], Folders returned from indexing [0]

00000 xxx  abc Removing added global admin user[globaladmin@example] for team[xyzadc] RetryCount[0]

00000 xxx  abc Successfully removed the global admin user from the team[xyzadc]

The Teams global admin account is automatically added to all the Teams groups

Hi @Kamil ,

Good day!

It is expected behavior for the global admin (or service account used for backup/restoring) to be added as a member or owner of Teams during backup and restore operations. This is required for Commvault to access and restore Teams data.

The logs you provided show that the global admin is added and then removed, but in some cases, the account may remain as an owner, especially if:

The global admin/service account is the only owner of the team after restore.
Microsoft Teams requires at least one owner per team. If no other owner exists, the global admin cannot be removed as owner.

Use a dedicated service account for Teams backup/restore, not a personal or general global admin account.
After restoring, manually remove the global admin/service account from Teams if it is no longer needed and if there is at least one other owner.
