Verify Connection status not updating for M365 Exchange app despite successful mailbox browsing

Hi everyone,

We are facing a confusing issue with the M365 Exchange Online agent in Commvault version 11.32.

According to the documentation, under the Exchange connection settings:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/software/complete_microsoft_365_service_catalog_for_exchange_online_using_custom_configuration_option.html?_gl=1*hjd47t*_gcl_au*NjQ0NDk4ODY5LjE3Njk1OTU0OTI.

I should click "Verify Connection" to validate the Azure app registration and update the app status. However, when I click this button, the status doesn't update to "Successful," and it remains blank or shows no confirmation of a successful binding.

The strange part is that even though the verification seems to fail or does not show any status, I am able to browse through mailbox items and users within the Commvault Command Center in Office 365 app.

Have you experienced this behavior before? Is it a known bug, or what is your take on this issue? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Syed_S thank you for your response.

It seems that after upgrading to v11.40, the 'Verify Connection' feature works much better than before. After clicking the button, the status message now correctly confirms that it has been updated, and the configuration page clearly shows the application as 'Authorized.'

To sum up, in older Commvault versions, the 'Verify Connection' option for M365 applications often didn't work as expected, even if browsing mailboxes was successful. Therefore, I highly recommend upgrading to a newer version to ensure the connection status is reported accurately.

Hi @drPhil ,

Good day!

The "Verify Connection" status for the M365 Exchange Online app does not update or remains blank.

If you can browse mailboxes and users, your Azure app registration and permissions are likely correct, and core Commvault operations (discovery, backup, restore) are functioning.

This is most commonly caused by network restrictions—specifically, the CommServe server or web server cannot reach Microsoft Azure endpoints required for the verification process.

The "Verify Connection" button attempts a direct connection from the CommServe/web server to Azure. If outbound access is blocked (by firewall, proxy, or network policy), the verification will fail or not update, even though other operations succeed.

This is expected behavior when network access to Azure endpoints is restricted. As long as mailbox browsing and backups work, you can safely ignore the "Verify Connection" status.

To fix this, check proxy enabled between the CommServe server or web server and Microsoft Azure endpoints
