We need help.

We are currently using Commvault version 11.20 and backing up VM images. However, we are experiencing some issues where the VM backup frequently fails even though some backups are successful. We are unsure whether the issue is with Commvault or VMware, so we are leaving a question here.

If you are aware of any issues regarding this problem or can suggest additional log data to check, we would appreciate it.

Attached are the logs.

There’s not really enough information in that log extract to identify the issue.

You can take a look at vskbkp.log and VixDiskLib.log on the VSA Proxy, and see if there is anything more descriptive in there, but realistically, you’re probably better off just contacting Support.

Hello @YMJ Are you taking hot add backups? If yes, I have seen the error of “Unable to read disk” when you don't have sufficient SCSI adaptors to handle the disks. If it's hot add, I would ask you to change the adaptors to 4 on all the access nodes being used for the backups as per documentation: HotAdd Transport for VMware (commvault.com)

Note: Make sure to use the correct sequence as mentioned in the doc.

Best,

Rajiv Singal
