Cannot view vm list in vm group in command center

Hello Commvault Community,We have development commcell to test VMware and Nutanix Backup. We managed to add both to the Commcell environment, but somehow it always failed to fetch information about VM list in the VM group sections. And it only happened in the Command Center, we manage to browse fine in the Console.Is there any fix or log we can check for this issue.Note:CS, MA, Commandcenter is in single machine.Screenshot attached.

Office365 Retention Stats - Report

Subclient structure for backing up NetApp CIFS shares

I have a CIFS SVM which will have around 50 file shares.Right now I’m leaning towards each file share being a separate volume in ONTAP but that may not matter for this question.I could have a single subclient that does \\svm\c$ and tries to grab everything I could have a single subclient that has a list of \\svm\a_specific_share_1 and \\svm\a_specific_share_2 and so on I could have 50 subclients where each one does \\svm\a_specific_shareIs there a suggested best practise or just a least headaches way of doing this please?Some other option I haven’t considered?With multiple UNC paths in a single subclient I’m not sure when adding/removing/editing the list of UNC paths triggers a full backup of everything because it thinks the subclient content has changed.Whilst it’s a bit more management overhead I’m leaning towards option 3 because it seems to offer the most granularity and if I need to do a proper full backup of a specific share or there’s a problem I’m hopefully reducing the chances

Unusual File Activity not emailing.

Hi guys, I was testing alerting yesterday & I dropped an eicar test file on one of my test servers that I current backup using ver 11.32 I got no alerts emailed to me but I did get the alerts in the event viewer69:59    Possible threat found on client [xyztestfs] [count - 3]. Check Unusual File Activity report for more detail. I checked my setup and I can see the alert below, if I click test an email gets sent to me.I also have alerts setup to mail me on the following Alert Criteria: (Event Code equals to 7:211 OR 7:212 OR 7:293 OR 7:269 OR 14:336 OR 14:337 OR 69:59 OR 7:333 OR 69:52) but still never got a mail.I do alerts from the above criteria from other servers I backup. Any help here would be grateful.

V1 indexed VM restores after V2 upgrade

Hello,I'm planing to upgrade our 11.28 system and realized, starting with Commvault Platform Release 2024E (11.36), Indexing V1 for the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) will be end of life and not supported anymore. I need to upgrade currently used VSA V1, to V2.I can create new virtualization client and clone subclients manually or I can use the migration workflow. It's maybe clear.I have found in a topic, the backup history at the VM level will have both V1 and V2 jobs. The subclient level backup history will be separated. The V1 jobs are available for restore until they age.And here comes the question. Currently I have selective copies of VM backups for long term. It means, some job copies retained for 1-5 years. These copies will be available via V1 subclients.Will it work? Will these V1 indexed backups restorable after the end of life of V1 indexing? 2024E Release and newers in the future will support V1 indexed VM restores?Thanks in advance.

Auditors want Logs for Events, Job History, Failed/Killed History, Restore History - 14 months worth

One of our auditors' controls is we provide a list of failed backups (from CommVault events) and they make a selection of several failed backups and ask to show that we have mitigated those failed backups. That's currently done by showing a successful rerun of the backup. We provide the details of the successful job from the log. Where we are stuck is, the auditors want to go back at least 12 months. We have the usual backups with a 30 day retention, some 6 months, some 12 months, some longer.https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=11952.htm is not entirely clear, but seems to say that the job history logs are kept as long as the protected data. Is the protected data and the job details correspondingly aged together and stored with the job on the MediaAgent’s Library? Or do the job logs reside somewhere else, and where is that?If the following are extended to 420 days (14 months), will that cause all of our backup protected data to also be retained 420 days (regardl

Tape library during the DR test

Dear Commvault experts,during the planned DR test scenario our tape library should be a part of the testing DR environment, that is in the completely isolated environment. Therefore, this library will be marked as offline in the existing backup production infrastucture.My questions are: How can we ensure that the temporary test-DR CommServe can only read from the tapes and not write to them? Is it sufficient to disable the Scheduler and Data Aging features? Additionally, is it necessary to configure this tape library on the test-DR CommServe, or is it automatically recognized? Your input will be much appreciated!

VMware backup extremely slow

Hi all,After changing the Media Agent (MA), we are experiencing very slow VMware backup speeds, approximately 1MB/s using NBD mode. During troubleshooting, the only noticeable issue was a high 99% read rate. Other than that, nothing particularly helpful has been identified. Any suggestions for further investigation?

Which storage account access tier and configuration would be most suitable for jobs with extended retention?

I would like to ask what would be the most efficient configuration in terms of performance and cost on the azure platform.My current configuration is as follows:Monthly fulls are part of the primary copy with retention for more than 500 days. The copy is connected under a storage account with a hot access tier, as the copy also contains the primary backup configuration - 14 days 2 cycles.According to a report from Commserve, only jobs with extended retention take up around 200 TB in total, across Azure subscriptions. I am currently using Azure reserved space which allows me to reduce storage costs, for smaller subscriptions I use classic pay as you go pricing method.I started to wonder if it would be more cost effective to set up monthly full backups (those with extended retention) on a storage account with a cold access tier. However, I am concerned about how this will affect deduplication and what about data verification where there are a lot of read operations, which in contrast are

Need to perform Linux CommServe DR Backup to another VM

Does anyone know if there is a way to have the option of doing the CommServe DR Backup to another VM.This is a Linux CommServe.We are currently doing it to the local path and to the Metallic Cloud. Is there a way to add a 3rd option or to change the local path to another VM?  Thanks

All Oracle Command Line Backups with job Type Full

Hello, all our Oracle Command Line Backups are listed as Full Jobs in Commvault.The Size of the Jobs suggest they really are inrementall.I’ve compared the rman script from the oracle admin with the generated one and both have the “backup INCREMENTAL LEVEL=1” line. Furthermore the generated RMAN also has a “##send …… -t 1” Line for Communication to commvault i think. Do the Oracle Admin needs to add this to his script to let commvault know which jobtype the job is?Thanks and RegardsJacob

Disable Software Compression on a second copy

Hi, is there any possibility to disable software compression an a secondary copy?In my setup I have a primary deduplicated copy with software compression enabled, for an additional secondary copy I need to disbale on that copy software compression and deduplication since the Dell Data Domain and CyberSense doesn’t want to have compression enabled.Here it is described that it should be possible to disable it, but I didn’t see that option.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.20/modifying_software_compression_on_non_deduplicated_storage_policy_copy.html Is there any possibility to disable it anyway? BR

Using Bulk Insert in a dataset for a report.

I need to create a report that management can use, that compares server data in another database, to server information in Commvault.Unfortunately, I can’t get access to the other database, and need to run a report against it, and save the results into a tab delimited file.Using this, I have the SQL set up to bulk insert the data into a temp table, and do what I need to get information from CV, based on that data.  Runs fine.However, when I try to paste it into a dataset in a report, and “Preview” the data, prior to saving, I’m told that I don’t have permissions to bulk insert.It appears to be a jdbc error, so I’m assuming they are running java in the background.  I can find what I need to add to a java connection, to allow bulk insert.  However, I have no access to the background java. Does anyone know of a way to allow bulk insert in a web console report?

MySQL XtraBackup slow restore

Plans, storage policies and Auxiliary copies

Hi all, hopefully someone can help with this.We’re long time users of Commvault and very familiar with storage policies, schedule policies and the like. We’ve recently migrated our VMware estate to a new vCenter and have taken the opportunity to also migrate to using Plans at the same time. I’ve got a number of plans based on the times I want the backups to happen and the storage it’s going to (our retention is the same on all of them). So this has meant that I now have a large number of storage policies and I feel like the Aux copies are not really running efficiently because there’s so many of them (they are all trying to use the same resources, lots of errors about being unable to set up the copy pipeline that I wasn’t getting before). Backup hardware hasn’t changed whatsoever and the primary copies are working fine so I don’t feel this is to do with the new equipment as the issues are all contained within the existing setup (MAs, storage). Aux Copy

Hi,We disabled the secondary copy but few jobs are showing in “To Be Copied” and “Partially Copied” status in secondary copy but we planning to erase the data in secondary.My Question is: If I erase the data in secondary dependent copies will be going to erase in primary copy or only data will erase in secondary copy itself?

Postgres recovery timeline after archive issue

Hello,We have a PG instance that failed to backup for a day due to an issue with our archive script.  We fixed the script, and CV ran and immediately picked up all the logs.However, in the GUI, it’s still showing a gap in recovery; from the time the archiver originally failed, until the time it picked them up.I haven’t been able to test a restore to a time during the gap yet (I hope to today), but I was able to click a missing recovery point and the API scripts accepts the time I chose.Is this a bug in the GUI or something else?Thanks!

DR backup full export location and schedule

Hi all, In our case, it seems that the export location is nearly full. However, the jobs in both the disk and tape library associated with the DR backup appear to be of regular size. What’s strange is that the DR backup is committed every 3 hours.My questions are:Is it possible to change the default retention period (90 days) for the export location? Where can I check and modify the schedule for the DR backup? Is it possible to delete DR backup jobs from the export location when there is insufficient space? Your help will be much appreciated!
