Dear Support Team,

We are planning to upgrade our Commvault environment from the current version 11 SP16 (HPK38) to the latest available version (11.38). Please confirm the following points:

Upgrade Path:

Is there a mandatory intermediate step(s) through version(s) 11.28 (2022E) or/and 11.32?

Are there any additional constraints in our configuration?

 

SQL Server Requirements

We currently use SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Is an SQL upgrade required before proceeding?

 

Planned Downtime

What is the estimated downtime for each upgrade phase?

Are there recommended time windows for specific components (CommServe, Media Agents, clients)?

Are there any additional validation steps required?

To begin with, Please check compatibility before upgrading cv set up from one SP to another

Is there a mandatory intermediate step(s) through version(s) 11.28 (2022E) or/and 11.32?

If the CommServe server is at Service Pack 16 or a previous service pack, and you want to update it to Commvault Platform Release 2023 or a more recent platform release, you must first update the CommServe server to Platform Release 2022E. and this documentation may help you Upgrading the CommServe Computer

recommended to upgrade SQL Server to 2016 then to 2019 then to 2022

 

What is the estimated downtime for each upgrade phase?

it is dependent on performance of commserve server, I guess each upgrade phase take 2 to 6 hours.
