Slow Tape to Disk

We were testing a small (200MB) backup and restore to tape and back to disk. Backup takes < 8 minutes however restore takes 3 hours. It appears that after making contact with the index server the restore is waiting almost three hours before mounting the first tape. Transfer from tape to disk actually take a few minutes. Any idea why it can take so long to mount the first tape?

Health report | exclude sealed DDBs from the DDB Disk Space utilization /strike count

Hello team, I noticed two sealed DDBs have a space warning under DDB disk space Utilization section in webconsole health report.We have a long term retention for mailbox backup that prevent DDB store from reclaim I’m looking to see if there is a way to exclude sealed DDB from the DDB disk space utilization /strike count (I have search CV bol but it doesn’t bring any search result)Or i’ll need to contact support to manually free up sealed ddb space. Do need upload CS DB for CV staging ? thank you

Library not recognising tapes since new CommCell Server and DR database restore

Hello Fellow CV Community I have an issue with our USA CommCell. We had to build a new 2019 VM CommCell Server due to the fact we were running on 2012R2 and we could not upgrade our Service Pack to 24 until we went past that OS. Since upgrading and doing a DR restore, any new tapes we put in our library come back with the following when verifying the media:“Media in library [HP MSL 4048 Tape Library], slot [slot42] does not have a valid media label that is not written to by this product.”We thought this was just an issue with tapes that were in the library, when we did the upgrade and saw this an oversight. However this is happening after we took all those tapes out, rebooted the library and added brand new tapes in to the library.Our infinite backups are at risk until we get this resolved. Any help as always would be greatly appreciated. TonyQ

Brand new disk storage array/library

Hi all,it's always exciting to start with something new. This year we start with deploying new disk library. In our scenario, we have 2 disk libraries (2 storage arrays), whose secondary copy policy is copied to each other. There are two options - either migrate all data from old storage arrays/storage libraries to new ones or just deploy two new disk storage libraries without worries about old backed up data (which is unlikely). Then, how to physically migrate data from old storage array to the new one? What keep in mind when deploying new storage library:with new storage library it has to be create new deduplication database I will be more than happy to see your experience and once done I will share our knowledge as well

Identify hot/cool/archive usage in Azure easily

I hope this is simple to answer for someone. I looked in the Azure portal but was unable to find what I was looking for. We’re new to using Azure archive for our secondary copies, and the billing seems higher than expected. Actual billing is showing about five times higher than estimates. We’re wondering if some data is in hot or cool rather than archive. Is there an easy way to identify what is in hot, cool, and archive by a chart or something in the portal?

Advice: Import this media into the correct library and retry the operation. whY is he complaing for DR server WHY? this job was run by HQ media server and also copy by HQ media drive now my issue is why is it complaining of media that did not even write the job

Cloud Storage alert report mount and prunning errors/issues

Have some alerts that just started showing up in the past couple of days for a particular AWS cloud libraryCloud MountPath(s) without pruner MediaAgent [ {Library[Lib1] MountPath[[store2] s3-backup] DeviceName[Device_94]} ] (yesterday and today. Same time each day)andFailure Reason: Failed to check status of parent directory, media agent cannot access the storage. (started on the 19th and occurs roughly at the same time each day) (Additionally this error first occurred when the cloud storage was associated with a different Media Agent. )The library has two mount paths, and the mount error mostly comes from the 2nd path. Although it once reported the other.Checked the jobs for the storage policy related to it, and it seems that nothing is missing.Have looked through the logs and other than the similar alert text, I don’t see what could be causing the alerts. There are multiple storage policies using the same Media Agent and the same S3 bucket. None of the others are having this prob

Prevent reuse tape command line

Hello,Is there a script that prevents a tape from being reused? Only script i found was the mark tape full, but that doesn´t assure me that the tape won’t get used once the data in it expires.I have around 12k tapes that i need to prevent reuse and doing it via GUI doens’t seem to be very workable.Any ideas? AUX Copy optimization from Disklib to S3 library

We’re running CV11.24.25 with a two-node grid (physical) with CIFS mount paths from a Nexsan Unity that takes secondary copies from MAs that perform backups (no direct backups other than DDB), with a a partition on each MA. We decided to replace this with a four-node (virtual) grid with S3 (NetApp) storage. The four-node grid was set up with a global dedupe policy based on 512KB dedupe block size with a partition on each node. The two-node grid is the standard 128KB dedupe block size.We had ~600TB of back-end storage (~3.3PB of front-end) and have ~1.75PB front-end left to process after about two months of copying. There were 105 storage policies (multi-tenant env) with retentions ranging from 30 days to 12 years (DB, file, VM, O365 apps) with anything higher than 30 days being extended retentions (normally 30 days/1 cycle and then monthly/yearly with extended retention).We do not seem able to maintain any reasonably high copy rates. I’m trying to add S3 Compatible Storage as a Cloud Library, but I get error: 3292 1194 12/20 10:31:44 ### [cvd] CVRFAMZS3::SendRequest() - Error: Error = 440373292 1194 12/20 10:31:48 ### [cvd] CURL error, CURLcode= 60, SSL peer certificate or SSH remote key was not OK I already troubleshoot it and I was able to successfully add the storage as a Cloud Lib using “nCloudServerCertificateNameCheck” mentioned in another thread (Thanks @Damian Andre ! ) The thing is that the provider has a valid certificate Issued by:CN = R3O = Let's EncryptC = USwith root cert:CN = ISRG Root X1O = Internet Security Research GroupC = USSo I am wondering if instead of ignoring all the possible certificates I could just add this one, valid certificate to Commvault so it trust this provider and allow me to configure DiskLib. Is this possible? Also not sure it that’s related since certificate administration is not my cup of tea, but curl-ca-bundle.crt is dated to FEB 2016 on this MA which is a fresh in

Maximising Tape Throughput?

I have an FC connected IBM LTO8 library writing LTO M8 media through Commvault.MA is Windows and client is Windows.On the subclient the application read size is 2028KB as the volume for that subclient is ReFS formatted.What chunk and block size would people suggest on the data path to the library please?It’s on the defaults right now.I’m experimenting with data readers and the obvious things and keeping an eye on latency on the source storage but I’m trying to just get this data moving to tape as fast as is possible.Thanks

What to do after losing backup storage

Hello everyone,My secondary site has a Windows server connected to HPE MSA disk shelves. Earlier this year we added another disk shelf but my storage admin now tells me it’s improperly configured and he wants to correct it which will result in the lose of all the files on that individual shelf. The storage appears to CommVault as J: (51TB), K: (51TB), L: (51TB), and M: (18TB). It is just the M: allocation that needs to be corrected.All backups have two copies with one at my primary and one at my secondary site so I *should* be able to re-copy the affected backups over to the secondary site once the storage is fixed. Does anyone know if there’s a procedure or web site that shows how to do this? It would be the equivalent of recovering from an disk failure.Any help would be appreciated.Ken

four to six DDB partitions

Situation is I have a setup with three hyperscale nodes and a cloud library. The wish is to use all three the nodes to the cloud library and make two DDB partition on each node. At the moment we were able to connect two of the nodes to the library and create two DDB partitions on the two nodes, but when I try to add two more partitions for the third node the add partitions option os greyed out. As from the documentation :”Configuring Additional Partitions for a Deduplication Database” you should be able to create a six partition DDB. This is also the case for the two existing Storage Pool Libraries on the Hyperscales. So my question is, am I doing something wrong, missing a limitation or is something wrong within the configuration which is causing this?

Optimized tape utilization

We make daily backups of our servers.Every month we write the backup data on tapes.The retention period for these tapes is one year.For December, we create an end-of-year backup with unlimited retention time.Our goal is to have an annual backup for December and reuse the remaining months' tapes after one year.Due to server retirement, there are monthly tapes that we cannot reuse without first deleting the contents (Retain time until: infinite). If we do so, we lost data.Is there a solution to this problem?
