Can't lower reserve space in Commcell console
Hi, I came into work and noticed dozens of jobs in a waiting state due to the mount path not having enough free space. I am aware that we need to add more storage and we are going to, but in the interim I tried lowering the reserve space from 6TB to 2TB.so that the jobs can finish, and I also see what can be cleared. It’s not letting me change it. It will only go to 5960 GB. I currently have a ticket in with CV. 221017-401. Is there a way to fix this?
HyperScale Migration using Auxiliary copy to Azure / Metallic storage - DDB block size
Hi,I’m working on a project where a large Hyperscale environment needs to be migrated to Azure. Looking at using either Azure storage or Metallic recovery reserve and/or possibly a mix of the two. There’s short term 30 days as well as LTR 5 to 7 years so will use Hot / Cool tiers (possibly combined storage tiers if Metallic not used)HS is setup using the default DDB block size 128KB. In an ideal world - one could just setup a secondary copy for the cloud storage (either Metallic or Azure) and kick off the Aux copy to cloud, just let it run to get the data over in to Azure then eventually promote it to primary copy… however…As the cloud storage will then be used as a primary copy - ideally, we want to configure it with 512KB DDB block size. Media agents will be setup in Azure as they will eventually become the production MA’s once things get cut over. Some key questions on the above:copying between storage policies with different DDB block sizes – how will this affect overall dedupl
Commvault are aware of any issues with routing Commvault Traffic through the local internet in China.
Hello All, We have configured the Aux copy with AWS cloud storage library destination, we are facing Auxcopy slowness issue only for China location. Other locations are working fine. (US & UK).Any one facing same issue in China location…? Commvault are aware of any issues with routing Commvault Traffic through the local internet in China.
Settings for Archiver data Retention
I am attempting to replicate an existing Storage Policy with some differences associated with Media Agents for the copies. There is a existing setting called Archiver data Retention with a setting of 63 days for certain copies, but looking at the Copy properties for Retention, I am unable to find that setting. As a result, in my replicated Storage Policy, the default Archiver data Retention value is Infinite.Do you know how to set the settings for Archiver data Retention?
New physical server & optimising storage flexibility?
I have a new Dell Poweredge R750 sitting in a box with SSD RAID BOSS and 12x18TB NL-SAS on a H755 RAID controller. It's going to be running Windows Server 2019 or 2022 and will be a backup server holding both Commvault and Veeam data. The server will boot off the SSD BOSS and the NL-SAS is purely backup storage. At a PERC level I expect I'll go with RAID6.At a the Windows level I'm not clear whether there are IO benefits splitting it out into lots of small (5-10TB) volumes (which are all sitting on the same physical RAID) or whether to keep it simple and have one or two large volumes and segment data using folders. The current disk library is sitting on a pair of older Windows Poweredges with around 12x4TB mount paths which need migrating to the new hardware.Unless there’s a real benefit I’d sooner have a single large flexible Windows volume with 12 subfolders for each mount path than be messing around creating 12x volumes.I presume there is no way to consolidate down the number of mount p
Is network topology necessary if firewalls are not in place
We have an offsite facility we send our aux copies to for DR purposes. PB’s of data for CommVault to go through . We do not have a firewall, and port 8400 can reach the offsite ok. Some of us in house think using the network topology to create a persistent connection and then open 8 routes will speed up the process over letting Commvault handle the traffic automatically. Does anyone have any insight into which process is better to use for us? or more technical how the network routes work or a recommended setup?
Backup to cloud
Dear colleagues,We have been using CommVault Simpana for many years. And currently we are looking for a solution how we can backup our data to cloud with Simpana. I mean that target of backup will be AWS, Azure or any others cloud providers. I found in the documentation that backup to cloud is possible for CommServer DR, but what about production data?Note: We are looking options for BACKUP to CLOUD (where backup destination is CLOUD) but NOT backup of the CLOUD (where CLOUD is backup source)!I would appreciate any information on this topic. Thanks!
DDB threshold reached max limit
Hi Team,The DDB partition Q&I time is very high post changed the DDB partition location. I have moved the DDB partition recently from one drive to another due to space was full.As per storage team, we are using Lun assigned NLSAS_SSD drives on our MA. Now all the backups are running very slow. I want to reduce the Q&I time or else want to run the DDB on single (T:\ DDB) partition. because the backups are running fine using that DDB(when i was moved the DDB that time it was used another partition) Please suggest on this.I have raised a case to vendor, they are suggesting to run the ConvertDDBToV5 workflow job and waiting for the steps and DT.
Disk Library Mount path space usage monitoring
HI Team,Is there any API or report using which we can monitor individual library mount paths ?CV alerts are for complete library but i need to configure an alert specific to mount paths( coming from different media agents or servers ) part of same disk library. We receive below alerts when one or few of the mount paths of library met reserved space .Failure Reason: Insufficient disk space. Available mount paths are not enabled for write or have met reserved space limit. Enable/add more mount paths or add more disk space to existing mount paths. Please check mount paths on the library Need to configure alerts on mount path level so that we can disable the mount paths in advance .Regards, Mohit
Netapp SM-BC support with intellsinap
Hi all,we are implementing a new netapp infrastructure. This infrastructure will be composed by 2 clusters with SM-BC -- Snapmirror Business ContinuityWe will use it to present luns on vmwareI don’t find any information about the compatibility with intellisnap.Any Idea ?Thanks a lot

Planning / sizing for cloud storage tiers and documentation question
Hi,our documentation around combined storage tiers in cloud could be a bit misleading around sizing for Warm and archive tier storage requirements.See in red below.what’s the ideal ratio to size? (or do we need to just go 10% on warm tier to be safe?)https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/139246_combined_storage_tier.html BackupsCommvaults combined storage tiers works by placing Commvault metadata used in both deduplication and non-deduplicated backups in the warmer or frequent access tiers. This allows you to perform a simple Browse and Restore of the archival data, without the delay of a cloud archive storage recall. As a result, more than 90% of the backup data gets stored in the Archive tier, while only up to 10% of the data is stored in the warmer tiers. Deduplicated and non-deduplicated data is supported in Commvault combined storage tiers. For deduplicated data, the backup indexes and deduplication metadata is stored in the warmer tier. For non-deduplicated data, th
Space reclamation / orphan data cleaning against cloud storage library
Hi all,Wondering if by chance anyone has experience running DDB space reclamation with orphan data cleanup against a cloud library. We have a cloud library in Azure cool tier which we expect may have some data that was not pruned successfully, thus increasing our storage consumption in Azure. The deduplication database for this data lives on local storage. We’d love to run a space reclamation with orphan data cleanup against this cloud library, but we’re concerned about the possible cost of storage transactions against the Azure cool library.Has anyone performed this operation before and observed the related cloud storage costs? For reference, we have just under 100 million blobs and a total of about 400TB of storage utilization in Azure. Many thanks for any input folks may have!
Failed to start controller on Media Agent
Hi,Please assist.DDB Reconstruction is inprogress, the job is in “add records” phase but gets stuck on “failed to start controller on media agent.Services are running on both source media agent and the problematic media some other jobs are usng the same media agent Commserve is 11.25.14I thank you. Exchange mailbox restore from copy precedence
Hello,I am on commvault v11 SP20 trying to restore exchange mailbox items by changing copy precedence or using a disk library from aux copy (not primary) Restore runs fine but always picks up media agent associated with primary copy.Tried from commcell console and command center (no option to change copy precedence in command center for exchange mailbox) Is it expected behavior or I am doing something wrong here?
How to find how much physical space a storage policy use?
I have a media server containing several storage policies. Now I need to move one of the policies and files to a new media server. How do I find how much physical storages space the storage policy uses on the disks of the media server? And is this size the same it will use on the new server when moved (create new primary copy)?
