Oracle Archive Log Backups are backed up to a storage policy. The primary copy’s retention is configured for 30 days with 0 cycles. The Data Retention Forecast and Compliance Report shows the Archive log is required by the RMAN Full backup which has been aux copied from a primary copy (Disk Library) to a secondary copy (Tape Library). The Secondary Copy retention is 7 years. I would like for the Log Backup on Disk to follow the primary copy retention of 30 days and expire once 30 days have been met, however it is not expiring since itis required by the Full backup on tape with the longer retention. I had a similar issue with SQL backups where the log backups were not expiring because the log backups were required for the SQL full that had been aux copy to tape with a long 7 year retention. The setting to correct this behavior is under Storage → Media Management Configuration → Data Aging → and disabling <Honor SQL Chaining for Full jobs on Selective copy>.Does anyone know if
Hi, We have recently acquired a new server and storage as part of our hardware refresh for the Commvault server. The new server have the following:2x 480GB SATA SSD configured as Raid 1 (OS installed)2x 1.6TB PCIe SSD - still deciding whether to use host based mirroring or leave it as standalone disks, intended use is for SQL database, DDB, and index. The old server has the following disk configuration:OS - 558GB - 173GB usedSQL - 278GB - 866MB usedDDB - 418GB - 25.6GB usedCommvault V11 SP16 HPK17 Any recommendation for the new server’s disk configuration? If I will use host based mirroring will it have impact on the server’s performance? Which Commvault version should I use? 2022E or 11.26? Thank you in advance.
Hello,I am trying to fully understand restore point retention to achieve my goals. I also have Incident 221117-488 currently open about this. Here’s what I am trying to achieve: a low priority backup plan that runs on a daily schedule, and consistently retains as close to 3 restore points as possible. Here are the settings I currently have for my base and derived planBase plan: WIN_SYS_STD_BASE_LOWSLA: 1 week, inherited from CommCellBackup destinationsPrimary - 3 days retention periodSecondary - 3 days retention periodDatabase optionsLog backup RPO - 4 hour(s)Run full backup every: 1 weekStorage pool Override not allowedRPO Override requiredFolders to backup Override optionalDerived plan (Defines scheduling only): WIN_SYS_STD_BASE_LOW_10PMDefined in Java GUI: Run synthetic full every 3 daysBackup frequency: Run incremental every day at 10:00 PMBackup destinations (Inheriting from base plan)Primary - 3 days retention periodSecondary - 3 days retention periodDatabase optionsLog backup RPO
We have a Media Agent located in China and business need is to aux copy primary data to AWS cloud. What way this can be achieved. I am looking for information more on traffic management because there is not straght forward way to migrate data from first copy to AWS cloud. Note: I know technical step to setup auxi copy in normal scenario.
We had to back up some exchange Dags for short term retentions to an 3Par Disk library. The Mount Path is from one of our media agents where i can see what's stored on the 3Par. My boss wants me to back up the month of September that we have on disk to tape, so we can clear it out from the 3Par for another month of Storage. Would the best way to back this up to tape would be to create a subclient on the media agent the drive is mounted to , target the Data Chuncks for the time of the month he wants backed up, and assign it a storage policy that will back it up to tape, or will that not capture the data we want from the 3Par?
Hi,We have data to backup with a retention period of 4 weeks. The challenge is the following:the data within the fist week of retention period must be copied to SSD disksthe data within 2nd week to 4th week of retention must go to NLSAS disks. So, the goal is to not have the data of the first week retention in NLSAS disks to reduce the space. Is there a way to reach this goal? ThanksRegards,
HelloAt the request of the client company, I proceeded with the recovery of Oracle DB backed up in PTL Media as follows.1. Backed up original DB to PTL Media. (SAN)2. The DB backed up with PTL was restored to the recovery server. (Network, using Backup Server MA)Different drives were used for backup and recovery. No issues occurred during the backup. The following message is output with a Failed unmount error during the recovery process:The path is being accessed by another application.Advice : please make sure that no other device explorer application like SAN explorer are running on the machine.PTL devices are used by Commvault only.I would appreciate it if you could advise me on what to check to resolve the issue.
Commcell v11Backed up server folder needs to be restored from multiple backups which are on multiple tapes over a one year timespan. (38 Full BU)We need all backup from the full year. Looking for a way to complete this short of doing individual recoveries. Suggestions?Thank you.
Hello CV community!I see that from 11.24, you can add snapshot copies to server plans.https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/139040_new_features_for_snapshot_management_in_1124.htmlIm not sure, this snap copy in supported only with specific type of storages?Does anyone actually use it ?Please for your feedback,Nikos
Hello,We have bought a new tape library and we want to create some auxiliary copy jobs to run on a weekly basis for 4 storage policies only for the full backup job's(the client schedule is a full once a day/incr every 1 hour)The auxiliary copy jobs must all run during the weekend and occupy not more than 2 tapes( we have tapes with big capacity-16TB) because we have only 8 tapesThe question is, how can we make the copy jobs to write and fill up one tape and after to try and fill up another tape when the first one is full? For example: after the first copy jobs is finished, the second one needs to use the same tape like the first one (if there is still space available of course)and when the tape is full, write on another one and so onBest regards,Stefan
Hi team.I have a question about data verification on sec tape copy: How to exclude a specific tape from the data verification process ? Or how to address problems as below:My setup is simple - primary copy on disk lib and secondary copy to LTO. Both copies are verified. From time to time I see a tape that generates a lot of CRC errors during data verification. The verification process takes a long time blocking tape drive and is either completed or sometimes stuck. After that, dozens of jobs on the tape have the partial verification status. Next scheduled verification process repeated with the same results. What surprises me even if the tape exceeds the threshold of w/r errors and has the condition status of “bad” - it is still subject to verification. Why such verification should not finish for some jobs as failed and that’s it. I have such a nasty tape quite often and then a lot of problems. Manually checking and excluding from verification dozens of jobs on tape is practically impossi
Unusual performance drop detected in pruning for following deduplication databases: [GDSP_ALL_<Servername_8]: due to increase in (CommServe Job Records to be Deleted) - Check details in: http://backupserver:80/webconsole/reportsplus/reportViewer.jsp?idstringIf i check the report, it’s grown from 0 to 12399 commserve job records to be deleted from 9’th january to today the 18’th.….However, this media-agent is a media-agent that is spending half it’s life completely offline and shut down, and it has been shut down since the 9’th, and powered on again today, so i assume this is expected behavior, but because i have not seen this message before, i figured i’d check with the hivemind first :-) Software version is: 11.24.78
Hi!We’ve recently moved media-agents to new servers, and i’m now in the process of “cleaning up”. And for 3 of the 4 media-agents the report showed nothing, and i could delete the mediaagent without any issue. However, for the last media-agent, it complains about “Proxy Server to Perform Intellisnap Backup Operations”, and lists a client name, a backupset name, and a subclient name. This was “correct”, because there was a subclient there with that name that was configured for intellisnap (but not in use, and had no backups). So i deleted the subclient… but even so, now several days later, when i try to delete the media-agent, the report still complains about the same “issue”. I could ofcourse just ignore the “warning” and proceed with the deletion, but i’d much prefer for the report to show that there is no association, before proceeding with the deletion.
We have 2 Synology 24TB storage libraries, one for the primary and the other at another site for the AuxCopy. The primary has Free Space 15.34TB, Size on Disk 8.59TB, Total Application Size 30.5TB.The AuxCopy has Free Space 3.62TB, Size on Disk 20.33TB, Total Application Size 30.33TB Shouldn’t the AuxCopy be an exact replica of the Primary? Why would it be larger? Thanks for any suggestions.Larry
Hello,I’ve set up a new media agent, v 11 SP24.34 and installed the CV MA software. I’ve created my Maglib also. I’ve created a storage policy and my primary copy. What i want to do now is to create a secondary copy. I’ve done that but when i click ok i get an error : “Internal Error. Incorrect parameter passed to the SIDB engine”. When i click ok to that error, i get another error : “Invalid library ”. My secondary copy does not get created. Has anyone experienced this before?RegardsFergus
Hi all,any advantages, other than security with removing attack surface, when using iSCSI attached volumes from a NAS directly to the Windows MediaAgent rather then writing via SMB to the NAS share? In regards of performance, ransomware protection etc?Your thoughts are highly appreciated, thanks in advanceregardsMichael
