Hi Everyone,

I’ve noticed a significant increase in the size of DDB over the past few days. About three days ago, each partition of the DDB was approximately 115 GB, and as of today, all four partitions under the same engine have grown to 145 GB each.

Could you please help me understand the potential reasons for this growth? What areas should I check, and are there any recommended troubleshooting steps to investigate.

Hi @naraharsha ,

To address the significant increase in the size of your Deduplication Database (DDB) in Commvault  consider the following steps:

  1. Verify Configuration: Ensure that your DDB configuration is optimal for your environment. This includes checking the size of the DDB disk and ensuring it is adequate for the data size.

  2. Check Retention Settings: Review your data retention policies to ensure they are set correctly and not retaining data longer than necessary.

  3. Enable Horizontal Scaling: If not already enabled, consider enabling horizontal scaling of DDBs to distribute the load across multiple partitions. This can help manage the size and performance of the DDB.

  4. Run Space Reclamation: Perform DDB space reclamation to reclaim unused space and ensure that the DDB is not holding onto unnecessary data.

  5. Monitor DDB Growth: Use the DDB Disk Space Utilization report to monitor the growth and utilization of your DDB over time.

For more detailed guidance, refer to the DDB Disk Space Utilization report documentation.

@naraharsha ,

  You can check a few things

  1. Is the storage consumption on the mountpaths also increased with DDB size growth.
  2. Are the related configurations like compression remained the same or any thing changed?

There’s option to compact DDB as well
