Question

When it planned to support Proxmox hypervisor for backup?

Forum|alt.badge.img+5

Reason for my question is Broadcom/vmware deal. Our Customers ask if Commvault supports Proxmox

Documentation.commvaut.com 11.34 show that PROXMOX is not supported.

Research in comunity shows a two year old topic where someone asked the same question.

Two year are a long time so I want to ask if and when Commvault plans to support Proxmox?

Thanks in advance

Hi @Joerg ,

The Proxmox Hypervisor is not yet supported in Commvault.

However, it is definitely on Roadmap and keep looking out for documentation and it will be updated in the documentation once the feature is released.

Hi Gnana,

Thanks for the answer. I read a little. Proxmox delivers its own backup server. May be there is no need to implement a hypervisor for this product.

Indeed, support for Proxmox VE is first time available in 11.36 (2024E).

Hmm, the proxmox chapter disappeared from the current 11.36. documentation. ???

I’m checking it with the respective team.

Mmmm not the first time that information related to newly introduced enhancements and feature all of a sudden disappears….

We got the information with 11.36 Proxmox is now supported:

It was on 25th Oct in the Documentation here: https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/protecting_proxmox_ve_vms_with_commvault.html

But this site is not available anymore.

Please write to Early Adopter team (earlyadopter@commvault.com) about your interest in this feature. This will be the best approach in my honest opinion.

It should have been on the list of the Early Adopter program anyhow, right?

Colleagues, does anyone have a package for installing the proxmox agent?

Коллеги! Есть ли у кого-нибудь пакет для установки агента proxmox?

Looks like Proxmox support was taken out of FR36 and moved into FR38. It is back in the documentation: thttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.38/essential/protecting_proxmox_ve_vms_with_commvault.html

Dear Onno!

Thank you! I read about version 11.38, but I thought there was some “special” solution to the problem.

What do you mean with a special solution? B.t.w. do mind that FR38 is available only after submitting a request.

Hi,

I have been testing it for a while.

It works even in 11.36 release (greater or equal than 11.36.28). You have to apply to unlock this functionality through the early adopters program.

It seems that it is not needed any special client package at all. I just installed a standard linux CVLT software on the Proxmox VE node (including virtual server package) and it works (VM backup & restores).

Dear Jiri!

Problem resolved:

In order to enable proxmox in 11.36, please perform below steps:

Login to command center → Search “debuguisettings”
Once window opens, please enable the setting for proxmox
Virtual server agent to be installed on proxmox hypervisor is same which is available for Linux OS access nodes

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
