Question: “Why” is it not recommended to use this setting if retention is above 90 days or ‘extended retention” set?  Would it not work if it was 120 days, or “extended retention” as set to 120 days and you just set it to 365?  What is the danger if retention is higher than 90 days? Background:In this document: Deduplication FAQ (commvault.com) there is a statement made for a setting in [DDB] → properties → Settings called “Do not Deduplicate against objects older than n day(s)”Statement: “Do not Deduplicate against objects older than n day(s) option to 4 times of the retention days when the retention is below 90 days on the storage policy copy. If the retention is above 90 days or the extended retention is set on the storage policy copy, then do not use this option” Also: It appears this setting can probably go up to 365 days (its “365” in the greyed out settings if its not checked to set this setting).Also: I have some old (read only) mount points that have “referenced data” on them

Hi guys, I’m planning an upgrade and move of an Commserver version 11.20 on Windows Server 2012 R2 to a new server on Windows 2019 installed with Commserve 11.28 2022E to get the MSSQL upgraded as well. I will use DR Assistant Tool as I usually do and as far as I can see in docs this should work according to this statement…“Verify that the destination CommServe host installed with the same (or higher) service pack and hotfix pack as the database that is available in the DR backup that you plan to restore.”  Has anyone done a similar upgrade/move between versions? Regards,Patrik

Dear Team, We have around 20 LTO9 tapes available to take backup weekly and monthly secondary copy. Now I need to assign each media to dedicated media group once loaded into the tape library not for manually move.I gone through commvault documents says that we have an options to create Barcode patterns with the media to assign automatically to the particular media pool or media group. My questions, we have Weekly and Monthly media pool and AFK001L9, AFK002L9, AFK003L9, AFK004L9, AFK005L9. I need to assign AFK001L9, AFK002L9 media to Weekly pool and AFK003L9, AFK004L9, AFK005L9 medias to Monthly pool.   Barcode pattern name and Barcode pattern option???? Could you please help to fix the issue. I have a question, Is there a way to create a CSV from an Active Directory? I don't want to restore the objects, just compare them If the restore fails to restore information, Commvault also generates a CSV with the failed information

If we are already configuring an air gap between systems such as with a network topology, or for example with VM power management, ect… then what does the air gap storage do exactly? Hi CommunityI hope someone can help with below issue.I am trying to create a ddb partition on a Linux media agent with encrypted disk.While creating the partition I get the error like when the 10% free is not available.It looks like the labelling process is not handling the encrypted volume name well. Hi,I am planning on moving a CommServe to Azure.As part of my planning I will make sure that once the CommServe is migrate to Azure it can talk to the Media Agents & Clients on ports 8400-8403 and vice versa. I will also have ports 80 & 443 open so I can connect to the Web Console. Am I missing again ?  Thanks

While running auxillary copy job media marked as appendable its not full , after appendable is not reusableThis appendable media is not full, also tape is getting stuck inside the drive,if we can reuse this appendable tape without erase the existing data(because we data retention in 5 years) please share any solution for this issue

The goal on our Linux file server is to replace the current /project1/ directory with new /project1/ directory, all the same data, but the data stored on different back-end storage. All of this data is backed up by Commvault with the Linux File Server Agent but not doing block level backups.However, when doing a test, we discovered that Commvault will back up the data again after its moved back to the new /project1/test/ directory, even though the data is exactly the same (same file sizes, modified dates, etc).I populated a folder on the file server /project1/test and created a Commvault sub-client for only that directory. I ran a manual full backup, which backed up 344MB of data.Then I ran the following commands (as root on the linux file server)rsync -avHxAPS /project1/test/ ~user/temp/Removed /project1/test/ using:rm -fr /project1/test/Synced the data back from /temp/rsync -avHxAPS ~user/temp/ /project1/test/Reinitialize the xfs project quota:xfs_quota -x -c 'project -s test' /proje

Good morning! We’re setting up a PG instance with Commvault.  We’re running on RHEL which has a default block size of 4k, but it appears PostGres uses a block size of 8k.  Should we be setting RHEL to use 8k blocks for the database mounts?  If so, can you tell me why?  Our OS folks are curious. I appreciate any guidance you might give.Thanks - Chris

Hello Community, Our client wants to us to trigger Oracle dataguard backups only from secondary node. I couldn’t find a setting on “Preperties” to set it. Does anyone know how to do it? Or if it’s even possible? The primary node is very loaded so they wish to run all backups from secondary. Thanks!!Zivile

Hello Commvault Community!One of the environments had a problem with backing up virtual machines in Azure.Some virtual machines return an error during backup:"91:413 Encryption status of one or more disks doesn't match the setting in ADE Extension of VM [XYZ]. [All] disks are expected to be in encrypted state.Source: CS, Process: JobManager"The problem occurred for version 11.28.100I see that there is a patch for SP30 with a similar description: Lengthy restores of Azure ADE virtual machines can fail with the error "Failed to setup encryption settings for the VM" - 6577 (11.30.53).https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/files/service_pack/updates/11_30_83.htm However, I don't know if this is a fix that applies to backups, because the description refers to recovery operations.I created this thread to ask whether this may have an impact on the situations on SP28 or whether these are completely independent scenarios and matters that should not be combined.Could I ask you to verify

When the backup is complete, the records disappear in 10 minutes in Job Controller  I want to make sure that it doesn't disappear Until I refresh it

I’ve went through the documention and have a doubt on the below.The addtional 0.5MB of data will be added only to the magnetic disk the holds the DDB or will it be also added to the Disk library mount paths ? “After running the Backup1, you add Partition2 and run Backup2 of the same 1 MB of data. After the second backup, 4 signatures of 128 KB size will be added to Partition2 (even though the same signatures exists in the original store) and for the other 4 signatures only the reference will be added in the original store (as the signatures already exists). Hi all, At a customer, we are using Combined Storage Tiers:CV 11.28 AWS Deep Glacier / Standard-Infrequent Access We have a few questions on this:When we do a restore, the Recall workflow kicks in. We see that it initiates the Recall and then waits for 13 hours before checking the Recall Success. Why is it only checking after 13 hours? The data might be available sooner, so it would make sense checking earlier.   Which Recall type is used by default (with CV 11.28), is it Standard or Bulk? Thanks in advance!

We have an installation of Commvault 11.28.36 in an AWS environment.  There is only 1 Commserve servicing multiple VPC’s with each VPC having it’s own Media Agent(s) and S3 Bucket(s).  We have Couchbase installations in various VPC’s and currently we use the Couchbase backup utilities to dump the backups to EFS which are also mounted on the media agents.  From there, we do EFS backups to S3. We are interested in exploring the Commvault Couchbase backup process with targets to S3 and have a few questions:  Does Commvault Couchbase backup process just utilizes the Couchbase backup utilities?  Is there any document that provides technical details on the backup process? Currently, with the EFS backup, we are utilizing the Capacity Based License.  If we move to this Commvault solution, what license will it consume? I appreciate insight into to this. ThanksChuck
