Schecule policy with exceptions

I tried out the exception rule in Schedules for the first time, on an Intellisnap backup.I created a Policy with IntelliSnap Full, SQL Integrity check and backup copy job first SUN of month.Then I created one with Intellisnap Full Mon-Sun with exception on first sunday.When I looked it seems that the schedule didn't run at all on the first sunday.The exception was applied only once to the one MON-SUN. The exception should only be for that schedule I guess?Or did I get this backwards. //Henke

Backup job properties

Hello,In the Advanced Options of a backup job there is a posability to change the retention for the specidic job at launch in various copies.As per documentation the job will be pruned according to the specified retention time. Does that also hold true if I would specify a retention less then the storage policy copy properties?If I have a stg policy copy with 365 days and 1 cycle. If I specify 180 days for the job, will it be pruned after 180days and not 365 days?//Henke

Delete old IndexCache directory

Hello,I removed a media agent and I forgot to disable the Ransomware protection before I got rid of it in commcell.Now I can’t delete the directory since its “readonly”. Unfortunately the directory is on a drive also used for other things so I can’t format it. Since the drive has live data I don’t like to do the disk part thing either.Is there a commvault tool or way for me to get rid of the directory? Best RegardsHenke

HelloIn Job details for a completed backup is the “No of Files(s):” just calculating files, no folders? Trying to find 4 miljon files out of 8 miljon that are stated as backed up but I can only find roughly 4 miljon files in source (with exclusions in mind)./Henke

Media Agent Migration

Hello,I am migrating a few media agents due to hw refresh and in the past I’ve done this manually successfully. Lately this is more problematic with the lockdown thats done on the indexcache directory created at installation. In the documentation it still says to copy the index cache from old to new media agent, but I havent been success in copying to the correct directory due to it is write protected. I’ve had do copy it to another directory.I did see that there is an app for the move but when I tried it the gui kind of failed so I didn’t finish with it.Is there a new “proper” way of manually copying the Index Cache from old media agent to new?We are on 1123E if that mattersLink to documentation: Migrating to the New MediaAgent Using Manual Operations (commvault.com) Best//Henke

Command syntax explained

Hello,Is there someone that can interpret and let me know my assumption on the switches in the below command to are.-j = jobId-i = Deduplication Partition-c = ??-in = CV Instance-cn = Client-group = ??“C:\Program Files\Commvault\ContentStore\Base\SIDB2.exe -j 0 -i 74 -c 178 -in Instance001 -cn client-server 1 -group 0”Also, if anyone know why the above doesen’t have a JobId, or rather why it’s 0. Is it just an internal thing to the SIDB2 process?I’ve seen the command have -j 0 as well as a -j xyz jobId that is searchable. BRHenrik

Encryption Aux copies with deduplication.

Hello friends,I have two questions, maybe more of one statement and one question.It’s still true that if I change the encryption in a stg policy copy it’s only new content that get’s the new encryption and any older will keep the original encryption. Am I right here?Currently we have the setting “Do not deduplicate against objects older then” 180 days enabled.Retention for the policy is lets say 730 days.If we where to change the encryption for that stg policy copy, it would take 360 days before we would have no referenses to the “old” encryption? Or would there be jobs with the “old” encryption throughout all 730 days?Not sure I describe the question in a good way.. BRHenke

Scheduled report

So I created a job summary report from the commcell GUI, filling in all items abd adding it to be scheduled. The report is created a a CONSOLE report. But when I look at the result in the scheduler it’s been, magically or by commvaults visdom, changed to be a job summary webreport. Nothing noticed me about the change and in the GUI there is a specific selection to create a Job Summary as a web report.Where can I find the announcement of this change?? The web report contains loads of informatiuon I don’t need, so now I have to go and build a new customized web report? Where as the GUI report had an easy click “summery” I need to create a new report with just that info.If anyone can point me to that “one button” on the web report I’d much appreciate it. I understand that Commvault is trying to make things easier and more streamline, but that defenetly is causing issues in some areas, specificlly if one is used to the more granular control of the environment.BRHenke

Browse or report on a backup job

Hello,How do I get passed the 10000 object limit when doing a browse or job summary report?On the report it’s onlu allowing max 10000 lines, and in browse I can only see the firs 10000 objects, the other 3252 I have no idea on how I can see or select. Hello.Is this a valid configuration in a non dedup scenarioLibrary with two pathsMedia agent A on-prem with a disk pathMedia agent B cloud with a disk pathNone of the media agents can reach each other.The clients using a storage policy with the above library is configured to override the default path and use an explicit path that is within their zones, for on prem clients they use Media Agent A and clients in the cloud use media agent B.We are in the midst of a migration and the above would reduce the number of stg policies created.//Henke

Hello,Can I change the Secondary Copy schedule from the webconsole?I haven’t used the webconsole very much but with deploying a new commcell I’d thought I’d look into it. Hello,In the documentation for setting up a Hyper-V hypervisor for backup it’s stated that the VSA need to be installed on the commserve computer, I take it thats the commcell?Whats the purpose of it being installed there?Can someone explain the Hyper-V configuration maybe. Enable FileSystem Agent

Hello,I have a client that is backed up as a virtual instance plus a native SQL agent. Now I’d Like to change that and remove from virtual and add a File&Systems agent. Though it seems it is already installed, as seen below, but I don’t see the agent under the client.Is there a way to add the license for it? I can’t reinstall it it seems since it’s already there? Database removed from subclient by SQLiDA

Hello!I recently discovered that we where missing backing up a database on a client. Asking around no one remembered removing the database in question from the subclient. Luckely this is a sandbox system, that also means we only keep 7 days of backups. Looking over them all of them was missing the database.So I looked in the SQLiDA.log file and had to scroll back all the way until March 1:st. On that day something happened. At the time of the backup, IntelliSnap, it seems the database is missing on the SQL server for whatever reason. As I understand it, the SQLiDA checks the sublient content and then checks the SQL server. If a database is missing on the SQL server the SQLiDA removes that database from the sublient, with as far as I know no notification!?! And the backup was marked as successfull!!I understand that the database would go into the default subclient, and would be backed up there. But in our case the original sublient is doing Intellisnap backups, due to the size of the da

Change path

We have some trouble with paths to a Synology nas going offline.Currently we have the DNS name in the path. I’d like to change that to referring the IP address instead. I’m pretty sure I can do it without any issues but better safe then sorry. Anyone see any risks of changing the \\DNSname to \\IPaddress for the path(s)? //Henke

Hello,I am about to delete a client that is a VM from the commcell as it’s not needed any longer.However I do get a warning, as below. Commvault Support

Hello.I wonder if I’m the only one experiencing this.But why do bother with uploading logfiles prior to a case is created as it seems that Support isn’t even reading them, although it’s described in incident whats needed. ? It seems that when Support comes back, it feels that they didn’t even bother to read the description at all. Most times a remote session is needed, although they have information to start of from. Okej, I’m ranting a bit but it is annoying.//Henke
