Hi All,I came across the CommVault documentation, mentioning that deduplication won’t make much impact when I am keep my long retention copy in cloud as tape replacement.Can anyone share more details about the your own experience or CommVault documentation regarding pros/cons of keep the long term copy in cloud with/without dedup. Thanks,Mani

Hello,here is my steps how to change name of rpm custom packer be default it is custom-linux.Instance001. You can change it as Commvault.Instance001 but still it is not standard for Linux world.Steps:Prepare two session on machine where you will build classic rpm package.2nd session go to path where you will have stagging folder and run this command:while true; do find . -name \*.spec -exec cp {} . \;;done1st session run normal wizard for create custom rpm package use stagginf folder where you are standing in 2nd session. After successul create package on this sesssion you should find spec file in current folder of second session. Hi AllI’m trying to come up with a kind a universal Error Handling for Workflows, in particular for ExecuteCommand Activities. Often enough they throw an exitCode > 0 and some commandOutput that may help the User.BUT then there are the times where exitCode is 0 but the outputXml states an error-condition. Tried to check and handle that via OnComplete Scripts.This is where I am stuck. Sometimes the response is generic and has an errorCode and errorString Element to parse, sometimes the errorString is missing, sometimes errorCode is 0 but an warningCode Element is added, but that isn’t returned all the time. Sometimes it’s a longer App_***Response Reply with the issues tucked in somewhere.Anybody know of a generic way to parse through all possible scenarios (mentioned or unmentioned) to catch issues right away, terminate execution and return useful consistent error Messages to User?Thanks,Stefan

Hello,We are trying to set up our Postgres DB to use blocklevel backups. Our system is PostgreSQL 10.13 running on Linux RH7. The backups run without an error. I can see all full and incremental (logs) that have been done over the last several days. After preparing the server (getting rid of the /main file and all log files) I started from the web interface a restore to current.After about 15 seconds the Progress indicator goes from green to yellow (Shows 10% completed) and I get the the error message : Received failed message for job [258820], phase [Restore]Event code 19:122After that the only thing I can do is kill the Job amd go back to my older normal backup. CommVault can restore that without a problem.Thanks for any help!Douglas

Hi, Setup is something like MySql is running on a windows server and HDPS is also running on Windows platform. Mysql server is behind the firewall. Required ports have been opened for backup and restore work. Taking back up can be done successfully but while trying to restore any backed up database, it is giving an error. Commvault has some white papers and even a Hands on Lab regarding Ransomware and using Air Gap as a layer of protection.  There are also YouTube videos on the subject.  There is no official Commvault documentation regarding the subject.  Is this Air Gap intended for companies with public facing servers to utilize a DMZ proxy to copy data and configurations inside a firewall?  Should this be used within a private network?

Hi, Reporting question again (I consider reporting a very important part of the product).We  export reports to PDF, for example backup job history.Problem: the number of records are limited in PDF , based on max size of records, not sre.For year reporting that’s a problem for us.Is there a way to increase that limit?

Hi, opinion/feedback from commvault users please: From the command center, users are scheduling reports, and of course they email those reports.But, the delivery  of emails is very unstable, which is not a Commvault problem.With “unstable” I mean  e-mails which don’t arrive.Either because the remote mail servers think it’s spam, or because the email is too big. (compressing the PDF doesn’t really make a big difference  )Commvault has a “download center”, wouldn’t it be possible to have a possibility/option to store those reports -which are send - also *automatically* in the download center so that user can still retrieve them later. (because, of course, users only notice hat they don’t have the report, if they have an audit months later)I know that we can save the files to a drive, but of course users cannot access that from the command center. (and we could use external tools of course)What are your ideas ? Are there any Commvault users which implemented something like that or someth

Hello,I am hoping someone can direct me in the right direction.I have a secondary copy to tape with an infinite retention period. The tapes will be stored offsite for safe keeping, currently tapes are onsite. I noticed during restores of older data I would need to insert the tape media containing the index to browse content to restore.Is there a way/method to keep this index on a local storage so the tape is not needed to browse the contents?

So new to Vault Tracking, and want to deploy it into our backup environment. The only concern is that in order to enable it, you have to check “Export Media After Job Finishes” The schedule is of course set to a storage policy which has up to 20 + clients associated to it. My concern is the wording of “Export Media After Job Finishes”  because its not clear if its saying it will export a tape once a job finishes as in job 1 of 20 is done it will export that tape, and so on and so forth making up to 20+ tapes, or if it is referring to the specific Job associated to it at the schedule level. For example, we have a schedule that runs for these 20+ clients that run a daily diferential backup, weekly full backup, and a monthly full backup. If i enable vault tracking on the weekly Schedule would the “Export Media After Job Finishes”  refer to the weekly full schedule as being the “job?

New to CV and found that the previous guru created schedule policies under two different user id instead of a generic id.  I’ve tried modifying but no joy.  There are several and I really do not want to recreate as that is open season for errors.  What method am I missing?

I have a VM with a vendor application that uses SQL Server Express database.  Does the CommVault SQL Server agent support backing up SQL Express databases?

Not a question, just sharing with the community.So, logged to MA today and say this thought I would share with everyone. 

What are steps that I need to follow to complete the upgrade? Does any one have the document that I need to follow to complete this process? I fairly new to commvault and do not know how I should execute this process. Do you know how long we will be supported on Version 16?
