Suggestion to configure the backup for legacy Physical servers

Hi All, We have some legacy Physical servers which not supported by Commvault. Its mix of Windows/Linux/DB.Can any one suggest the best workaround to backup those machines using CV? Thanks,Mani

Autodesk BIM 360 platform integration with Commvault

Hello Commvault Community, Today I would like to ask you if Commvault has integration with the Autodesk BIM 360 platform?I searched the available Commvault documentation but found nothing. Media in Library (tape)

Hi there,Having an issue with a client where their tape media is not being seen by Commvault. In the process of renewing support, but it’s rather urgent so wanted any troubleshooting tips in the meantime. They’ve reset the library, done various scans, recreated the client with a different name, and tinkered on the library itself (HP autoloader w/ LTO-7) to confirm the tapes are seen by that.Tapes show up on the autoloader fine, but aren’t being seen by CV, still missing “Media in Library”.What could be the issue? Any tips are appreciated :)

DDB Backup frequency

From here: Deduplication Best Practices (commvault.com)I’m seeing from this link its “best practice” if you have a DDB of around 100-200 TB to do a full backup “1 tie per week” and do incremental backups daily.  I would assume this is the case for a smaller DDB as well.My system currently has 5 DDBs (all multiple partitions) where 3 of them are ~40 TB, and the two large ones are ~350TB each.   We have a schedule to do a Full DDB backup “Daily” of all of them, and it appears to be the built in “System Created for DDB Clients” schedule.Is “taking Full DDB Backups daily” of this size “excessive” or “not really needed”?  I wasn’t aware you can schedule incremental DDB backups and wasn’t sure if this is something you can just add into an existing schedule. “Full daily” is just the schedule we have had for a long time.I bring this up because it seems we have had issues with the DDB backups (some of them), running for 15+ hours, and it appears its slowing everything else down quite a bit when

Sharepoint DB Backup fails due to service accounts not having access to Jobresults/Log Files directories

Hi!We’re currently testing in our Dev environment with Sharepoint Subscription Edition. I’ve configured it like i normally do, and when i do a “Validate Account” it says everything is fine. However, when i tested doing a full DB backup, it “Completed with errors”. So i did a little bit of digging, and found out that there are a lot (~15) of service-accounts in use for this sharepoint installation, so just for testing purposes, i added all service-accounts with access to the Job results and Log Files directories, and then the backup completed successfully.So, it seems to me that there needs to be more accounts that needs to be given access to those folders. So i started doing some more testing, by removing 1 account at a time, but i ran into an issue where it seems some of the account/account-info is cached, because the job would fail, and i would add the account back again, and it would still fail for the next couple of times, but if i waited some hours, then retried, without having do

DR Commserver

Hello friends,I need help for some time now my commvault had an error in the nCVDPORT record it automatically changed the port 8400 to 100, with that it was generating some failures, to carry out a troubleshooting we changed the permissions of this record of the session folder so that no one could change and we restarted the commvault services, from then on the services did not go up again even returning all the permissions in the attachment follows the error log, it was tried in several ways to return the commvault services until trying to run a DR on another server, but also verified that the DR it was not 100% functional not finishing the installation. Could you help me to restore the services .Attached log.Main error: "### [CVD ] slSetUpService: bind() failed on port 8400, err 0x80072740:{CQiSocket::Bind(306)/W32.10048.(Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/ port) is normally permitted. Disconnecting a User from admin console

Hi , When you show the ‘ User Logged In ‘  from windows  ‘ view’  from the commcell,   Many users are always connected from  1min to 12 Days. i see the Name ( msnet\aln8800)  the host name ( Ip xxx) Logged in ( 9 Nov 2022) Idle time ( 13Days - and console type  (  GUI or ADMIN CONSOLE ) I can’t disconnected  the 33 users  because the option is  in ‘Grey’ colorThanks Dan Disconnecting a User (commvault.com)

Unable to select feature release to download

Hi,We are schedule to perform cv upgrade to target version 11.24.x. Part of our preparation is to download the target FR from the commcell console in Add/Remove Software but upon checking unable to select feature release from download and sync cache options. It is grayed out. If anyone who encountered this how do we enable the options so we could proceed to download our target update software. Regards.

Client configuration failed. There is no license available for File System Core

Windows 2016 server Client is installed manually and is visible to the Commvault side. All the connectivity and readiness checks are Okay. But when we are trying to configure file system subclients, It gives following error message, “Client configuration failed. There is no license available for File System Core.” As this CommCell is configured with host-based licensing this need to purchase an additional license from Commvault. ? Kindly help us to verify this as we couldn’t found a documentation proof.We installed File System and SQL server agent with the installation.

OneDrive files for users that left years ago still available for restore

My OneDrive backups are configured to use my Tier 3 Prod (“other” production) storage policy which has a 14 day retention for all backups and a 1 year retention for monthly backup.Today I noticed that a coworker named Simon who moved on to greener pastures more than a year ago still appears in the list of clients when I do a Browse and Restore search on OneDrive users within the CommVault java GUI.  The Backup Time reported for Simon’s files falls within the weekly synthetic full backup that runs Saturday nights.I thought there might have been a failure to clean up Azure but when I check admin.microsoft.com, Simon does not appear as an active, guest, or deleted user.  I checked with my O365 administrator and Simon’s files appear to have been properly deleted.I don’t understand why his files are still appearing within the CommVault backups.  Shouldn’t his OneDrive files have expired by now?  Ken

Is there any documentation on the "computed column" option in a report data set's definition?

I’ve checked BoL and the “add data set” section shows “advanced” but not “computed column” option.When creating/editing a data set and selecting “computed columns”, the prompt text says “#Data of the data set is present in data frame with name data.#You can return dataframe or individual vectores and it will be added into the data set.”I’d like to compute a column based on two columns that come out of “EXEC Lic_CUR_GetLicenseUsage 29” (part of the license summary report but cannot find any syntax.

Custom report

Hey,I’m trying to change a cloned report of webreport “Backup Job Summary”.I’ve cloned it and make some alterations.Im trying to add default values for the client names in the Input Section,but it fail when report is run with “Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value 'NaN' to data type int.”I suppose that it’s the client name shown in the dropdown list that I should add but that gives an error.According to documentation thats really all thats needed.Anyone know what to put in there? //Henke

Hyperscale storage compatibility and security questions

Hi,Please help me with the following questions:Let’s say I deploy Hyperscale using the reference architecture on Hitachi hardware. I need to set long term retention backups to anything but tape.Can I connect an external storage as secondary disk/cloud library to the environment? Also, what type would it be (FC luns, iSCSI luns, NAS shares/exports (NFS, CIFS), S3 buckets)? If any external storage is permitted as disk/cloud library, would it be connected to all nodes on the Hyperscale cluster, it being the one who controls writes between nodes avoiding conflicts? It being an appliance, does it have any operating system hardening besides the security features included in the software (which run with or without the appliance)? For example, intrusion prevention and detection (like avoiding root logins, avoiding running OS commands or tampering with autostart config, etc.) When upgrading the software, does it work just the same as a non-appliance environment? meaning only commvault software

Regarding Qumulo backup - Change File Tracking

Hi team, IHAC who runs Qumulo file server and performs it’s backup using CVLT + StoreOnce.Customer has a big concern about too long scanning time for backup so they’re about to apply this feature, Change File Tracking option on their environment.CVLT version is FR24 and I read this URL content but no any detailed procedures.Optimized Incremental Scans Using Qumulo Native Change File Tracking APIs (commvault.com)Can customer use this option to reduce the scanning time for the subsequent backup job?Please kindly let me know how to turn on this option from CV or Qumulo side. Thanks a lot.

Linux Media Agent limitations

I am looking for a comparison between Windows and Linux media agents. I have done some testing between the two and not seeing anything that will make me say “Yes, we need to do Linux now!” I am actually seeing that I would have to deploy additional infrastructure for items like Live Browse if I went to Linux as Windows proxies would be needed.  Any suggestions are appreciated.
