HyperScale 3 (Rocky Linux) network

Hello everyone,I’ve to configure several VLANs on 12 HSX 3.2.I’d like to know if I can do it through a script that uses nmcli or simple copy a predefined ifcfg-ethX/bondX configuration files?Thanks and regards

Connect to CommServe Server Behind a Firewall During HSX Setup

Hi Team, please help with below query,our commserv server management interface and HSX RA nodes DP interface are in different VLAN and there is firewall in between.we have commserv server management interface in VLAN 10 and data interface in Vlan 20. Also the DP interface in HSX RA nodes will be in VLAN 20. so when we initially set up the HSX RA nodes, and we provide the FQDN/management IP of Commser server in HSX RA nodes,  for registration to the existing commserv environment. based on below provided link, we have to run some additional configuration since there is a firewall in between.https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/connecting_to_commserve_behind_firewall_during_setup_01.htmlmy question is , we have to run some commands as per steps in above link, so where do we run these commands as part of additional configuration, is it inside HSX node ? should we do these additional configuration before installing HSX ISO in nodes or after installing ISO and Setup the network s

Mount Intellisnap directly on Hyperscale X to create backup to same hyperscale

HiI have been search Commvault documentation and I could not fine an answer on my question, that´s why I am asking here. I want to create an Intellisnap of an ibm db2 database running on an AIX server. After the Intellisnap has been done, I want to move an backup of the Intellisnap to an hyperscale X device. So the backup data is not in the storage array. Would it be possible to mount the Intellisnap directly on the hyperscale X device to sent the backup data from the Intellisnap to the same hyperscale X device? Thanks in advance!

HSX VLAN configuration with a 802.1q subinterfaces

IHAC looking to deploy HSX RA and create bonded vlan’s has the following question. Can the data protection bonded interfaces be configured for a vlan that will work with dot1q/VLAN sub-interfaces? Does Hyperscale X support ISCSI SAN mode backup for VMware

Dear Support,We have a requirement to offload VMware backup processing to HyperScaleX server, we do not have SAN in the environment. The storage server presents the disk to ESXi hosts over the ISCSI method. Can we use the same disk presented to HyperScale X over ISCSI method and perform SAN mode backup? Not sure this is supported, if supported using which network label (Data Protection or CS Registration) the HyperScaleX can see the disks. Please help.

Hyperscale support of open storage technology (OST) veritas

Hi i have an important opportunity that requires hyperscale X or commvault to support veritas OST. From veritas matrix , HSX and commvault is not under their supported vendor.Just to check is it valid from our end that it is not supported else is there any work around ?Below is a description of what OST does, seems like native capability of net backup integrate with third party storage solution." The OpenStorage Technology (OST) technology uses a plug-in architecture, similar to a software driver, that lets the third-party vendors direct the NetBackup data streams and metadata into their devices. Commvault Hyperscale X Reference Architecture licensing

Hi! Just want to ask how the reference architecture for hyperscale X would be licensed. After acquiring a per node license, do we still need to purchase Backup and Recovery or Disaster Recovery licenses to enjoy backup and DR? Would appreciate any input on this. Thank you!

Best practices for HSX SAN mapping

HiMapped ESX Datastores via FC to a HSX cluster - reason behind is using SAN Transport mode.Had to reboot the nodes as rescan-scsi-bus.sh didn’t work and couldn’t see the new devices.However, now that I see the disks, backups are not running properly with “failed to read disk over SAN transport” error.Any hints/tips on this? Couldn’t find much around as this is a storage related topic.Appreciate the help around.ThanksIvan

HSX Firewall

Hi,I have a new install on Ref Arch version 11.32I am going through the “what to do next” BOL to make sure all is secure. For the Firewall I run # firewall-cmd --state but I do not get a response telling me the state of the firewall.  I run another cmd I found systemctl status firewall and it replies. Any reason why the CV cmd in BOL does not work ?

Monitoring Hyperscale by SNMP

Hi EveryoneOne of my customers is looking for a way to monitor the hardware of an Hyperscale X by SNMP. I looked for the documentation in manufacturer's web and also in the community without success. Could someone help me to find the documentation, or tell me how and what can be monitored by SNMP?Thank you in advance

Change the HyperScale X network config to add management network.

Hello there, I have a customer for which we deployed HyperScale X clusters (11.32) for which we used the CommServe Registration network along the storage network. But now, they want to separate backups on a dedicated network. So now I’d like to add that management network, but I can’t find a documentation page on how to achieve it. I think this was accomplished in some config files on the nodes, but can’t remember which and how.Anyone has a hint on how to achieve this?Many thanks in advance.

Script to gracefully shutdown Hyperscale X cluster

Hello,Does anyone know a way to automate the shutdown procedure of an Hyperscale X cluster, maybe with a script?From the documentation there are some commands to perform, and we would need something that can be started without human input, and that can be scheduled in crontab.https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/132928_stopping_and_starting_hyperscale_x_reference_architecture_cluster.html Another useful thing would be a check command after the reboot to understand if everything was stopped “as expected” and that we are in a “clean” situation. ThanksLucio

Single Item Restore Performance

Hi guys :)Why is the restore performance so bad for big single item files like vmdk’s (100-400GB/hr)?Got the information that restores (for single Item) only reads from four disks simultaniosly, and the disks are HDDs, so random reads/throughputs are usually slow (by design). Support can’t help because it’s not an issue, and we have to live with it (if we want to stick with HSX). But thats not acceptable by our customers. Is there anything we can do?ThxKr

HyperScale 1.5 - HBA - VSA SAN backup

Hi All. I have a HyperScale 1.5 setup, with HBA cards installed on the nodes to be able to do VSA SAN backups.I have configured the multipath.conf to use round-robin, so the HBA card will utilize both ports on the card I have noticed that even though round-robin have been configured, it seems that only on port is utilized and that the port being used is then being maxed out.Do I miss somewhere in the HyperScale configuration where I can set the multipath setting or does anyone have any suggestions on how to utilize both ports on the HBA in a HyperScale setup? Regards-Anders

Monitoring software (Zabbix) integration with HyperScale X nodes

Customer having monitoring tool called Zabbix and using the same for Alerts and Monitoring on all their IT devices. So they want to include commvault Infra servers (CS, MA) and Hyperscale X in Zabbix monitoring and Zabbix agent needs to be installed on local system for the same.Is Zabbix agent can be installed on HyperScale nodes? Is there any document available from Commvault end for the same?

HyperScale X Hedvig OS update

Hi,I’m trying to update the OS for my Hyperscale X; however, in the documentation they stated that we should use KVM console instead of using SSH. I opened the KVM console on 1 of my nodes, and I can’t find the log in option. I wonder which button I need to press or which command I need to put there in order to log in?

Want to migrate Commvault backup data from current hyperscale to new hyperscale storage pool

Hello Team,One of our requirement is that the current commvault is running hyperscale environment and Commserve also running on hyperscale. Now the hardware want to refresh it, so we are planning to go new hyperscale with new commserve or will migrate existing commserve with all backup data and existing policies. Please advise how to approach this migration. Thanks in advance.

Bonded Topology With 1 GbE Management Network for HyperScale X Reference Architecture

i checked the links to configure Bonded Topology With 1 GbE Management Network for HyperScale X Reference Architecture but i can see the bond network type still selected as commserv registration ,  can someone explain if our data backup network is non routable network how is going to register it with commserv, or commserv registration will happen via management netwrok only?

HSX RA as VSA proxy for bothe Windows/Linux VM and FRE

Hello, We're going to soon deploy a HyperScale X Reference Architecture with 3 nodes. I would like to know, since I didn't find anywhere else, if HSX can be the proxy/access host for my VSA based backups. Can each node be a proxy? Can it perform the File Recovery Enabler (Linux VM file restore) role? Can it perform Windows VMs file recovery? My virtual environment is VMware vSphere 7. Kind regards,Pedro Rocha

Hyperscale X - intellesnap not preinstalled.. Why?

Both updated iso’s from commvault store for hyperscale x deploy do not have the intellesnap package preinstalled. Was this on purpose? I mean obviously it can be installed. - just seems like something that would be there. Just curious.

Replacement Drives for HyperScale X Reference Architecture, and adding new nodes

2 related questions -If a drive dies on one of the nodes in my RA setup, and that capacity drive is no longer available but a larger one is, can I replace the drive with the larger capacity one and the system operate with perhaps using a fraction of the capacity?  e.g. a 8TB drive dies, could I replace it with a 12TB drive (& perhaps the system just use 8TB of that space)? I want to add an additional node, but the new nodes are only available with larger capacity drives.  Can I do that, and if Yes then will it use a subset of the capacity so the usable is the same as the existing nodes?Thanks.

HyperScale X and VSA backups using SAN transport mode

Hello all, I'd like to understand the steps taken by Commvault when a VSA backup from a vSphere environment uses a HSX block as access nodes/proxy.  Consider that vSphere datastores are FC SAN based LUNs. So, best performance would be to use SAN transport mode on the cvlt side. During the backup operation, how the datastore LUNs are presented to the appliance? I saw in the docs the following: "For Linux proxies, you might need to rescan the SCSI or iSCSI bus after attaching devices.For MediaAgents on the HyperScale 1.5 Appliance or HyperScale X Appliance, you can use the rescan-scsi-bus.sh script to force a rescan." So, that rescan procedure, when it is required? Everytime a new datastore is presented to the virtual environment? If there's no new datastore, it is done only once during HSX deployment? Regards,Pedro
