How to Move Client from old MA and library to New MA and Library

Hi Team, We have one requirement. We are planning to remove Old MA and Library and we are planning to configure New MA and  New Library.Is it possible to move all client data from Old configuration to new configuration?

Secondary copy to Tape

Hi Support Team, We are running backups daily, weekly and monthly to disk library. Now we are going to take secondary copy in to tape with three tape drives.  So, The requirement is Weekly Full Backup for Database Servers and Monthly Backup for File server and application servers. Weekly backups need to take tape like First Week backup for week-1 Tape, Second Week backup for week-2 tape, Third week backup for week-3 tape, Fourth week backup for week-4 tape and Fifth week backup for week-5 Tape.Monthly backups need to take dedicated Monthly tape. Also Two tape drive for dedicated to backup and another one for restore purpose. Could you please help us how to achieve and its possible. Disk Cache

Hi Team,We have enable dish cache for sql backup and log RPO is given 1 hour  and Commit is 4 hours. We can see the committed job but we can’t see log RPO jobs. I would like to know to check sql transaction log backups are backing up to disk cache.

Gridstor implementation for SAN Disk Library

Hi Guys, We got a new SAN Storage, which is fully dedicated for backup. Since it's an FC Storage, we’ll present the LUNs to MediaAgents agents through SAN Switches. Our concern is about High Availability for MediaAgents regarding SAN. Is it possible to implement Gridstor through SAN ? We’ve already done that in the past with Object storage through mount path sharing. We now are wondering if this is feasible also through FC. Since SAN configuration implies Zoning configuration through SAN switches and LUNs are mounted locally into each MediaAgent. Overall, that's our need, being able to back up and restore through the SAN storage with 2 different MediaAgent and having some sort of HA in case of a failure of any MediaAgent. Any recommendations regarding this configuration would be appreciated. Kind regards.

Huge DB2 restore setting

DB2 backup size is 25TB, separate on 16 disks. I saw below article.Q1, any suggestion on maximum number of concurrent parallelism queries for my 25TB DB2 restore?You can improve restore operation performance by using parallelism.If the database contains a large number of table spaces and indexes, you can perform a restore operation more quickly when you set a maximum number of concurrent parallelism queries. I would like to know if there is a report on the historical growth of the Total Data on Disk Size attribute in a dedupe engineAny information provided is appreciated.  The total disk size as we know is the size of the reference jobs and data written

Deduplication failure

We are experiencing issues with our HyperScale cluster. The backups seem to be functioning, but we are receiving the following error message during backup:Error Code: [13:244]Description: [Deduplication failure] [Dedupe disk media] [Encountered a network error. Could not connect to the CVD on the target MediaAgent to launch the DDB engine.We also see this error message in the storage pool in Command CenterCreate Storage Pool Failed[Reason:There is an issue with HyperScale X storage configuration. The CV services are restarted on all nodes. Anyone know a solution? /Camilla

Snap backup of oracle database fails

Hi,New to Commvault. We are trying to create a snap backup of an Oracle database to HPE3Par but this fails. ‘Strange(?)’ thing is that snap backups of the VM work fine. Do i need to configure something on the vmware/3par side? Secondary copies ports requirement

Hi Commvaulters, Can someone advise me with the needed network ports to be open in order to perform an aux copy between 2 MAs.We installed a new MA on a remote site, and we want to open only the needed ports between it and the CS (For communication) and between it and the MAs located on the main site.Please to note that we are running CV version 11.24, I know that the main ports are 8400 for communication and 8403 for data transfer.Is there any other once that needs to be opened ? We want to minimize port opening in order to fully secure the remote MA. Regards.

How to obtain monthly backup size from a builtin report?

Hi, I can get this data after exporting a report to csv and manipulate it. Question is, how come there is no builtin report or dashboard or graph that would provide this in a simpler way? Regards,Pedro

Proxyless backup copy without an esxi host - how to configure

HI Team. Environment has high powered media agents with all SSD that are proxy/access node/media agents. Using intellisnap. Need to configure vsa snap backup copy to use proxyless and mount the snap on the media agents and not using the esxihost. I’ve found a lot of documentation talking about it benefits and caveats but nothing that states how to actually configure it. VSA subclient forces the configure of (just 1) esxi host to act as the proxy to mount snapshots. Thank you.

Inexplicably and painfully slow Auxiliary Copy throughput for copy between media agents

Dear Community, Thank you to everyone in advance for their replies - we have a bit of a headscratcher on our hands here, one that we have failed to resolve despite our best efforts so far. A support case is ongoing, but we were pointed back towards our own infrastructure - but let's start at the beginning. September 8th, my former colleague and Commvault admin (who unfortunately left the company) enabled storage policy level encryption. This led to some issues where synthetic full backup jobs were no longer running due to decryption issues, which in turn led to our primary media agent running full.September 25th, I once again disabled storage policy encryption because I thought that may fix the issue, but it did not. I created a spillover path on our offsite media agent to keep backup jobs running, and a few days later, the issue that caused the synthetic full jobs to fail was resolved. Some data was written to the mount path (associated with the same library, but mounted on the offsit

Basic encryption

I write backups to an on-prem SAN.  I have a small amount of data on one client that needs to be encrypted to meet a data at rest encryption requirment.Is there a way to only encrypt data backed up from a singe directory on a Windows client?  Or a single drive on that client?If not, what is the best option for encrypting my data at rest with the least impact on backup times.  I do not need to encrypt it in transit, just at rest. Thanks,Larry Upton

How long does it take for the new license file to be applied?

My CommVault license expires Saturday (today being Thursday).  I received a new license file from CommVault and applied.  The software components to back up VMs and Mail & Cloud Apps have an expiry date of Dec 2024.  Weirdly, my Metallic storage still shows as expiring Dec 16 2023.How long does it take for the new license to be applied? I tried applying the license directly from the CommServer but got the message “The license key has already been applied”.  Any suggestions on what to check to figure out why the expiry date on my Metallic storage hasn’t updated?Ken

ddb disks run out of space, what can I do

Hello Team,my customer has a 400TB backend storage and 4TB ddb space (two partitions). Both ddb disks are full.I see 1.062.831.168 unique blocks on files db. Fact is he needs to increase his ddb space but it takes time to organize disks and install them. What can we do to bridge this time. Is there a “space reclamation” for the ddb disks too. May be a seal is the solution because from ddb view we start from scratch. I know the obvious consequences such as baseline and network load. Empty the ddb paths and do a restore was a thought. Do you have other suggestionsThanksJoerg

C0000000.js file created in backup disk folder.

This file was created in one of the backup chunk folders of our deduplicated disk backups on a media server and was flagged by antivirus.  The file no longer exists and I’m certain this was created (and subsequently deleted) by Commvault to script some sort of storage/disk operation but was curious if anyone could confirm.  Thanks.

Is there a way to move mounth path, while primary mounth path is unavailable

We are trying to perform DR test, by installing commvault and adding the Commserve databases from DR backup. Installation went fine and Commserve is running, now all of the storage libraries are offline. I have copy of the data from a mount path that is unavailable but I am unable to do move mount point operation or import the backups. Mount path used in production is a CIFS share and in DR environment I also have a CIFS share that has all of the data from production copied. So my question is how do I move mount path from production (which is offline in DR) to new CIFS share (that has all the data). I have also tried to change the device name to the one used for primary mount path but did not work.

Extended Retention media

I want to configure extended retention for monthly fulls. I would prefer to have the extended full backups written to separate tapes than the regular tape copies so that a large number of tapes filled with mostly aged data are not being tied up. I know I can accomplish this with second tape copy for just the extended fulls. This method writes the full with extended retention to both tape copies. Is there a way to send the extended retention copies to a different set of tapes using on secondary tape copy and therefore, reduce the total number of tapes and at the same time performing only one copy to tape of the extended full backups?

How to backup VMware vvol disks

I need to figure out how to setup a subclient to backup vvol disks on our VMware environment. When I google this, it brings up everything but vvol and I am havng difficulty finding it in Commvault dicumentation. Our level is 11.28.83. Is this just the same as setting up any subclient? Or does it need a plugin to work? Any help yoou guys can give me on this is appreciated.
