Synthetic Full Errors

Is anyone else getting this error message every time their SynFulls run? 11.36.46 I want to say this stuff started happening when we moved from Server 2012 to 2022, but I don’t think that’s my problem. Windows Server 2022 - CS, MAs, VSA Proxies Every time the SynFulls run, most of them sit there in a Waiting status, yet there is always a single stream that shows Active (some over 24 hours) and always throw this error message, which was supposedly fixed a few MRs ago: Error Code: [19:1926] Description: Some jobs were skipped due to read errors. Will retry after some time. Source: bccmvcs01, Process: JobManager I’m not doing anything special with them. They are Continuous and do a SynFull every 7 days. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I remember when SynFulls would just run, and very quickly I might add, but now they just queue up and eventually finish after a looooong time. We have 4 MAs - each with a piece of the DDB partition. How Commvault check Exagrid's Point intime recovery

Like Commvault, Exagrid has Point intime recovery itself. But i dont know how it work when using Commvault + Exagrid. In Exagrid I recover data at a time but when go to Commvault, all data showed is not change anything

DDB verification job failed due impersonate user

DDB Priming with Auxilary Copies

Hi, I’m working on a new design which will consists of several ROBOs and 1 DC which will act as DRC for branch offices. Each ROBO should have local MediaAgent with primary copy and replicate to DRC as secondary copies. In this design I would like to Protect customer data against Ransomware using WORM Lock on Disk libraries. This will require DDB Sealing and periodic Full Jobs to be transferred to target DRC site which can be a lengthy process consuming a lot of resources. To mitigate that, I’ve been looking into DDB Priming feature which seems like a perfect solution for this issue. I run a simple test in my lab: Create a primary storage on MA1 Create a secondary storage on MA2 Run Full backup on client Run Aux copy, note the “Data Transferred on Network” Seal DDB on secondary target Enable DDB Priming on secondary target Run Full backup on client Run Aux copy, note the “Data Transferred on Network” Comparing this numbers it’s obvious that data are transferred again between primary and

Unable to Restore Backups After Reinstalling and Renaming Client

Hi Commvault Community, I’m having an issue restoring backups from a previously licensed machine. Here’s what happened: I removed the license from my client. Then I formatted the machine. I reinstalled the OS but assigned a different hostname. I installed the Commvault agent again. In the CommCell Console, the system now shows up as a new client, even though it's the same physical machine. My goal is to restore data that was backed up before the format. However, I’m unable to access the previous backups from the new client. As a workaround: I created a virtual machine that replicates the original configuration of the machine before the license was removed — same hostname, OS version, install path, etc. Still, I’m unable to access or restore the previous backup data, even from the VM. I’ve attached a screenshot showing the backup history that was completed successfully before the changes. I need assistance with: Accessing previous backups from the old client. Replace a Tape Library with a new one and migrate the tapes to the new TL

Dear Vaulters, We have implemented a new Tape Library(LTO9) to replace the old one(LTO8), our aim is to move the old tapes to the new Tape Library after decommissioning the old Tape Library to be able to restore the data from old tapes. My question is what is the action plan to make old tapes readable from the new Tape Library and what would happen during the restore from the old tapes. Appreciate your support & BR

decrypt processes

Hi, I have noticed aux copies and such taking longer and longer since either moving to 11.32 or 11.36, can’t tell when exactly this started. But now I see loads of decrypt processes running on the MA’s and TTBOMK we’ve not changed copy settings or anything to say “re-encrypt” data, yet that’s what appears to have happened during the leap from 11.28 to .32 and then .36. I hadn’t spent much time thinking of this until recently and now it’s clear the MA’s are spending loads of cycles apparently re-encrypting stuff during aux copies. Does anyone know if some fundamental change was made if you had encryption enabled but same strength that would cause so much extra processing to need to be done? Could it be due to different block sizes on the data paths between the global copy settings? thanks!

Restore o365 content from tape

Hello, I have a question. Is it possible to restore Teams/Sharepoint or oneDrive content from tape? I can't browse the tape in Java GUI and I can't select the precedent in the command center. Is there any way to do a restore from tape?

As you can see if we enter any random credentials, it is getting accepted. How can we validate that if we provide the original credentials of our HPE Nimble Storage Array, it will integrate successfully with Commvault?

Rolling back Disk Library with DDB

Hi everyone, If a snapshot of the disk library cannot be restored / reset. Is it possible to simply change the path, or does CommVault need the exact path? Can this be changed at all and does CommVault have a problem with this? Relative or absolute path? How exactly does the restore work if we go back to an older snapshot? What happens to the dedup databases if the disk library is set back by 3 days, for example? Keyword consistency of the dedup databases. I think there is a cleanup process.

Data has been deleted, but it remains in the media.

After right-clicking on the backup set, checking the data, and proceeding with deletion, no data is displayed. However, when right-clicking on the media storage and selecting "View Contents," the backup data still remains. The storage capacity also does not appear to have decreased, suggesting that the data has not actually been deleted. Are there any additional actions required?

Moving tape from Assigned Media in Tape library

Hello, I have Commvault backup server on simpana version 11.28.68. Also I have Tape library HPE MSL3040 with two Drives..The backup is placed on the tape library. I have a problem two days ago with one tape which was stuck in one drive. I read instruction for Tape library where I immediately had to remove the tape from the Tape library that caused the problem. That tape was in Assigned media. I didn't declare it full, nor did I move it to another scrath pool, I just took it out.Now I have situation that in Assigned media there is display as if the tape exists. but there is label “Not available”. Now, I declared tape bed but still exists in Assigned Media. How can I completely remove the tape from Assigned media? Thank you! Best regards,Elizabeta

Replacing old media agent: Move Mount path, or create new storage copy

Hello; We are getting a new media agent, along with a new storage library, and I want to replace the old media agent and storage library. Once I have the new stuff setup I am debating how to replace the old media agent Under every storage policy and plan, create a new copy that writes to the library. Copy all jobs to that new copy, then retire the old media agent Move the DDB and move the old library mount paths to the new storage library. Using netapp cifs for disk library path

Hello, We have a spare netapp that we want to use as a commvault destination for backup. We have try to use only the netapp deduplication/compression writing directly to the library but the result is only 1% saving, the backup are not encrypted so I was expecting something better. Anyone else has some experience trying to use it. Does commvault store the backup in disk library in a block format that is not compressable even if we are not using the commvault deduplication. Set default number of streams for data backup

Hi! I’d like to control or set number of streams for data backup for all subclients and instances in given agent type globally. So for example all postgres subclients are protected using 4 data streams. Is there a default value that can set during subclient configuration? How to set specific value for currently configured subclients to given value? (other then looping through all clients, all agents, all instances, all backupsets via API).

Qestion Regarding "Data Aging"

Dear Commvault Experts In Commvault Doc, it defines Data Aging as: “Data Aging is the process of removing old data from secondary storage to allow the associated media to be reused for future backups.” Q1: What is “ secondary storage ” ?? If I use an EMC storage, such as EMC VMAX array as a destination to save the backed up data, is this EMC storage array “secondary storage”? Q2: If I set storage policy’s retention to be 7days/1 cycle, as well as enable the “Enable Data Aging” feature, in or after 8th day, will the backed up data be erased from the EMC storage? Tapes wasted by the index jobs

Hi community, we have a lot of LTO9 tapes with only few Index Jobs on them (Jobs are in megabyte range) and I would like to re-use these LTO9 tapes (17.58 TB) for other tape-out copies. When these jobs will expire, nobody knows. Is there any way to copy still valid index jobs to another tape?Pick for refresh, tape to tape copy…? Thanks

All IntelliSnap operation Snapshots very slow with NetApp

Hello All, For the past 2 weeks, we have been experiencing the following issues. All IntelliSnap operations are extremely slow. This affects VMware, Volume Snapshot and Exchange. We use IntelliSnap for this and have NetApp storage behind it. Globally, the behavior is the same everywhere. Locations with OnTap 9.15 and also OnTap 9.11. Not only individual locations are affected, but all of them. Even sites with their own physical media agents. In other words, the error occurs everywhere. We have tried everything. The Commserv is not overloaded. It has 4 socks and 16 cores. 128GB RAM. The SQL database is also not busy or extremely overloaded. What steps did I take: - Moved Commserv to another VMware cluster. - DB Maintenance - Installed SQL and Windows updates. Started a job, same phenomenon. Our network team has carried out all kinds of performance tests. No abnormalities. Commserv and media agents are in the same VLAN. The support team has opened 2 cases and filed them under VMware and
