Can someone confirm from Commvault that in the case where DASH fulls are ran along with incrementals and the tape copy is synchronous, does the aux copy job (from disk to tape) essentially make it possible to restore any VM to the point it was last backed up, regardless of whether a full or inc happened last? Meaning it does not have to stitch together all sorts of incs. but rather takes the guesswork out of it so similar to restoring from disk, whenever you tell it to restore “to” those incremental jobs seen in the tape copy are essentially “fulls”? This is what I see when browsing media and comparing full jobs to inc’s - same exact file sizes and content for each VM. I didn’t think the intelligence was in there but at the rate the tapes are being consumed, it does indeed seem like every inc is basically converted to a full before writing to tape.Is that observation correct? If so, that is perfect.thanks

When viewing a list of Client Computers, one available column value is Update Status which will show Needs Update when necessary. And when viewing the client computer properties, the Version tab shows some more info.Previously when I was running 11.13 in Version tab, there was a section that shows Update status and shows a table of various packages and hotfixe updates that need update. But since upgrading to 11.21, that section appears to have been removed. I’ve attached a screenshot showing that section in the older and newer builds of the Version tab.Just wondering, in 11.21 and newer builds, is there an area where we can see the Update status table showing the packages and required hotfixes?

Hi.. Setup:- Two Client groups.- One client group contains clients- One client group contains Media AgentsA Backup Network using CIDR is configured according to: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=107131.htm The Media Agents have multiple IP addresses in different networks ofc... They have an IP address for the frontend (to which the CS connects to) and one for the Backup Network. Both of these IP addresses are statically assigned.. Clients ofc have multiple IP addresses too... One for the frontend (to which the CS connects to) and one for the Backup Network. The frontend IP is static, but the one for the backup network is a DHCP one. Dumping such a client into the client group sets up the DIPs as expected according to the Network Summary seen on the MAs. B

My company has adopted a new standard for service account passwords:  Min 20 characters, must contain uppercase & lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.  My current password for the root account on the three nodes of the HyperScale on HP reference hardware does not meet the new standard so I have to change it.Does anyone know how to change to root password on these three servers?  Is it just done via the Linux command prompt or is it done through the CommVault GUI somehow?Thanks in advance for any information.Ken

Hello, I have a question about calculation and usage TB license. We purchase 71 TB and 2000 Vm license. But now we are above our TB limit license. I understanded that all physical should use TB license and VM's should count under Protected Virtual Machines. In our case we using Windows File agent to back-up some of VM's but they counted under TB license. Under the client properties i do see Virtual Machine Properties TAB, that mean that client discovered by VM, but still using TB license. here are some exapler:

Hi, I am performing a Commcell Migration and in the source Commcell there is a TapeLibrary that we need to migrate to the target Commcell. My question is if the historical data will be available for restores (i.e tapes will be migrated/re-labled as well).  And if using the option “Allow imported media to be reused on this Commcell” means that append will work once the TapeLibrary is migrated or if it is read only and tapes will be reused (moved to scratch) only once all data on them has expired. Regards, /Patrik

I have servers with 10’s of Millions of general user files (.DOC, .XLS) files that are ‘manageable’ using the Standard File Agent method of backup I’ve often considered the Block Level method, but its the idea of ‘another Filter’ Driver in the Windows stack that concerns me:Not due to the quality of the code coming out of CommVault (which is very high) But due to the nature of Anti-Virus drivers, and their updates that often disrupt other filter drivers - with the small potential for a blue screen I’d be interested in any thoughts, comments, experience(The Windows Servers hosting the File Servers are 2016 and 2019 NTFS) Many Thanks

OVF Properties backup possibility in commvault? 

I have a requirement to back up data from a server then delete it from the source once complete.  Commvault doesn’t have this feature natively so thinking a workflow.  Does anyone know if there is a workflow currently available that does that?

Is it possible to make the agentless restore “Browse Files” process faster? It’s so slow that it takes longer to find the files than it does to restore them.

RHEL 7.9 and SELinux have tools such as sealert to report on avc denials.  We are seeing many false positive alerts, and they are inconsisent across nodes. Overall about 22 false positives.Why are these false positives triggered inconsistently across nodes? Is using sealert to find alerts recommended? If so, is reducing the false positives using ausearch and semodule to generate local policies recommended or frowned upon? Is there a better way?Thanks.Marc

Hello everyone,I have one client that will not connect to Comm Cell server for backups or updates.The install appears health and running fine...iThe server is  a Centos Linux 7.9 server running V11 Linux agent.The following ports are open in iptables 8400, 8401, 8403 and 8600..cvping outbound from the server can connect Comm cell on all the ports list above.However inbound connections using cvping to the client fail on 8401 and 8403.DNS is working correctly and there are no network firewalls between the two servers.The cvd.log has a error: failed to open socket and one more thing strange  about this  client install is that uses the severs is displaying the uname  -a name in commvault Vs. the OS name CENTOS 7.Any help will be greatly appreciated. 

could anyone say something about restoring all files from the date a Synthetic full has been created and all subsequent incremental. I did restore:based on the jobs given a time range selection from Oct 5 7.00pm it restored 2000 files but skipped nearly 80k files but don’t know why. It’s seems like only the files from the most recent incremental were restored and the others are actively skipped? Anyone, experience, or an idea? I’ve been able to restore all files + incrementals like that and getting it all, but not this time.

Hi everyone.how do you estimate MCSS storage requirements? MCSS (cool) would be our customers’ cloud secondary copy in their existing Commvault environment. So there are values available like local block size (128KB), deduplication factor, baseline size and such for estimation  We’re seeing around 1.2 to 1.3 x in MCSS demand compared to local disk with customers who set it up recently. As MCSS secondary copies “must have a minimum retention of 30 days", reducing retention (which oftentimes is the customer’s choice for solving storage issues) is apparently not an option here.While of course we cannot provide a 100% estimation, we intend to not be too much off.Thanks.  

Hey,I’m trying to change a cloned report of webreport “Backup Job Summary”.I’ve cloned it and make some alterations.Im trying to add default values for the client names in the Input Section,but it fail when report is run with “Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value 'NaN' to data type int.”I suppose that it’s the client name shown in the dropdown list that I should add but that gives an error.According to documentation thats really all thats needed.Anyone know what to put in there? //Henke

Hi, We are having a problem with our Netbackup setup with HotAdd mode to backup our VMware, i.e. if the Proxy Server takes more than 4 VMs to backup at the same time, loads of VMs would fail with the below error messages.“Error opening the snapshot disks using given transport mode: hotadd Status 23” In other words, this Proxy Server can backup no more than 4 VMs at the same time. OK, I admit that this is a problem in our Netbackup environment but I feel that I may get some help by posting this question here in Commvault forum because Firstly, the reason why we are testing this HotAdd transport mode within Netbackup environment is because we intend to deploy the same technology in the coming months in our another backup environment which is Commvault. Also, at the moment, the Netbackup support seems to be at their wits’ end (which does make me feel a bit di
