Rest API - GET VM (lists info of all VMs) - how to get complete record info for a particular VM?

https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/125353_rest_api_get_virtual_machines.htmlGET <webservice>/VM operation give us the  list of virtual machinesit gives almost all the info about the VM, like latest backupjobid, vmsize, the virtualization client info, subclientid, clientid etc. Instead of listing all VMs’ i want this info for a specific VM, how shall i fiilter out the info for a VM in this API operation. 2 methods that i tried are, but this isn’t giving me complete info GET <webservice>/VM?Search=vmStatusInfoList.client.clientName%3Acontains%3Axpath:{/workflow/inputs/source_vm}&GET <webservice>/VM?Search=vmStatusInfoList.vsaSubClientEntity.subclientName%3Acontains%3Axpath:{/workflow/inputs/source_vm}& but I’m not getting the complete info of that VM, i would like to retrieve the whole record info for a specific VM. Example:Sample response of Get VM========================="totalRecords":5,"pageNo":0,"errorMessage":"","errorCode":0,"pageSize":100,

SQL AppAware backup job with servers that are not AppAware eligible

I have a job running AppAware backups for a SQL server that supports one of our applications.  The server admin team asked me to backup two additional servers for the application at the same time as the SQL server. I tried adding them to the existing job but I get an error because SQL is not installed on the two new servers. The message says “App aware backup is skipped for Virtual machine, VM backup completed successfully”. So the servers are being backed up (I believe) but the error message is causing our operations team some heartburn. I thought there was an additional setting that could be added to ignore the AppAware error and suppress the message from the Backup Summary report. Does anything like that exist?  Running 11.26.36.  Thank you!

Unable to choose VMs and Templates in guest file and folders restore

Hello Community After updating CV to 2022E we are no longer able to choose VMs and Templates when we restore Guest file and folders.The only thing we can choose when choosing restore to virtual machine is the VM Cluters.Some people get the source VM chosen by default others only get an empty box and is forced to browse for the VM.Any ideas as to how we can fix this?

Failed to map snapshot to host

HiI am trying to run a backup of a VM and snap copy of the data store i have added the Nimble array (think this has been done correctly but as the Intellisnap documentation is so poor not 100% sure it has been added correctly if honest) everytime it runs, it gets to 15% and then displays the following message. “ Error Code: [32:392]Description: Failed to map snapshot to host. : [VendorId [ATA ] for device [\\?\PhysicalDrive1] is not matching for Nimble and hence skipping this device.VendorId [ATA ] for device [\\?\PhysicalDrive2] is not matching for Nimble and hence skipping this device.VendorId [HPE ] for device [\\?\PhysicalDrive0] is not matching for Nimble and hence skipping this device.]Source: jupe, Process: vsbkp”searching the error code does not help as the only meaning full answers i get say about upgrading the index server to V2 (it is already at V2) and something about an AD server which this isn’t.ESX is 7.0.3Commvault is 11.24.7 windows MA

Options for Backing Up a Virtual Cluster with Shared Drives

We recently upgraded our Physical cluster to a Virtual Cluster.  In doing this we had to have the have the windows cluster with shared SCSI Bus for it to Failover.  We have no way to get around that.  CV does not back the VMs up with the following error.  “Virtual machine [Blah] is configured with shared virtual disks. Snapshot operations are not supported for shared disks. Use an in-guest agent to protect virtual machines with shared disks.”  I had opened a ticket with CV and they stated this is because the Snapshot can’t be created and recommended a Windows File System iDA.  My question is does anyone have any recommendations for a solution to get this cluster backed up, that is easy to restore onto our appliance in a Disaster situation?  I am guessing that would be an in-guest agent or the Windows File System iDA, but I honestly don’t know what that means or how to accomplish that.  Any suggestions would be great as we are hanging in the wind with these not getting backed up.  I wil

Hi :) If I set it to schedule automatically for my fulls at 30 day intervals, will the fulls of the VMs residing on the subclient run at the same time? If yes, what does automatic scheduling provide? Regards

@Anthony.Hodges , I have the same issue with 11.24.7.  We have all the roles defined that was presented here and the documentation.You said the issue was on the AWS side.  Could you elaborate on that? ThanksChuck

HyperV backup did not delete/merge checkpoint disk after completion.

Hi,My customer having issue with hyperv backup. There is a lot of vm with left snapshot/checkpoint after backup completed. Hence there is a lot of avhdx disk cause the storage full.Microsoft said that backup should be doing the merge/delete after backup completed. From my understanding it should be hyperv do the merge/delete since it is hyperv checkpoint, Commvault only give instruction for hyperv to delete/merge it.Anyway that we can do backup without checkpoint?

Index Restore Jobs vsa v2

Hi All, we are running vsa backups ( vmware ) with indexv2 . During all synthfull backup jobs ( running every week ) we get for each vm an index restore job.  Operation Type: Index RestoreiDataAgent: CommServe ManagementJob Started From: Native Application InterfaceJob Started By: System The job restored 0 objects I checked alle index reports and health reports but found no error.  Do you have an idear what happend here ?

OVM migration or cross platform conversion to vsphere

Customer/Partner needs to migrate Oracle VM (OVM )  from Oracle VM to Vsphere ESXi. 1. Since Commvault doesn’t support cross platform conversion from OVM to Vsphere , can we take the full filesystem + system state backup of the OVM ( not vm image or intelligent snap ) and use virtualize me option to restore it to Vsphere ? 2.  When we use virtualize me option to take backup do I need to take one single full backup as a single Job, or can we take a Full backup earlier ( few days before ) and take a incremental backup on the  actual day of cut over and execute the restore. Does virtualize me supports a full + incremental backup taken by two separate backup job in different time to allow restoration . If yes this will help us to take a full backup earlier and use a quick incremental backup to reduce migration time at the actual cut over day.

Control VSA Manage & Worker Node

Hi AllI have a central vCenter that manages multiple Sites, hosting their own ESX Servers, Storage and all. We operate a dedicated MediaAgent in each of these Sites as well as one or more VMs acting as vProxy/FileBrowseEnabler. So far Backups go entirely through the MediaAgents as they are the only ones able to communicate with vCenter to query Inventory and manage Snapshots. Now we would like to utilize the vProxy VMs as dedicated Worker Nodes, reading and processing vmdks and co. When I add them as access nodes they either are not used at all or cause errors as they cannot (and shall not) communicate with vCenter.We’d like to have the MediaAgent as Management Node only and the vProxies doing all the work. Devide and conquer in a way. Any way to specifically mark or lock down which tasks a certain Machine can execute on a given Subclient or Instance?Running FR24, considering upgrade to FR28 if that makes a difference.Thanks,Stefan

What are all the vmware options using CV Restore-CVVirtualMachine powershell cmdlet?

This is in reference to the Commvault Powershell module found here.  https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/101892_commvault_powershell_module_reference.html I am successfully running the cmdlet  with an out of place restore but it only works in the same Cluster as the original backed up VM.  When I try to run the cmdlet and point to a remote cluster or host with…  Restore-CVVirtualMachine -Name $vm -ClientName $client -SubclientName $subclient -outofPlace -Requestbody $requestbody -OverwriteExisting -Confirm:$false.  I am guessing it fails withError Code: [91:79] Description: Unable to create a new virtual machine [testingvm-restore] on host [remoteesxihost.domain.corp] datastore [RemoteDS_02]. [The input arguments had entities that did not belong to the same datacenter.] Source: mediaagentname.domain.corp, Process: vsrst because some resources do not exist like the target VM network or some other localized thing that was backed up on the source VM. Where can I get more inf

Vmware server with SQL - Restore inspiration

Hi all. I need help or inspiration. Scenario is as follows:I have a Windows Vmware server with SQL with the databases and system databases spread out on different disks/mountpoints. I do a Vmware snapshot backup of the system drive (C:\) and filter out the data disks (all other drives) I do a SQL backup via agent I need to do a Disaster recovery test restore of the server, which means, restore the server so that it is working again. I do the following to restore the server:Restore the Vmware server (Only C:\ drive is available) Adds new disks/mountpoints in vmwareNow I have a server with the restored SQL installation and the empty drives. Only problem is that the SQL server is deprecated. When trying to do a SQL system database restore from Commvault, I would get the message, that the SQL server is not running, which is correct, as it cannot start without the system databases.    Then as I understands it I have two options:Rebuild the master database: https://documentation.commvault.co

Backup VM with physical sharing SCSI for RDM

Hello, We are implementing a Commvault environnement and are trying to achieve the following :Backup file system of VMs with RDM attachedWe only want to backup virtual machine and FS. E.G the vmware object/config and the C:\ drive. Our goal is to restore a VM like a normal one, without the RDM, then re-attach the RDM (or a new RDM and restore data from a file level backup. It should work for standalone VM with RDM, as SCSI controller is in virtual compatibility mode.But for clustered VMs with RDM, the SCSI is in physical compatibility mode, and it seems to prevent us from backup/restore thoses VMs. What is the best practice for this type of backup/restore jobs ?Thanks

NON Domain connected vSphere - failed to get server list

Hey all,I’m adding a non-domain connected vSphere to my existing Commcell (via the Commserve) and when I connect from the CS box to add the client, the connection failed immediately with:“failed to get member servers as proc APPGetVSMemberservers returned empty result”That error occurs after I hit browse on the subclient to view the VMs.I’m using a full admin vSphere account XXXX@vsphere.local - and I’m thinking this is not a Commvault problem but a domain/vSphere prob. So I’m kinda asking for some insight for those who have added non-domain connected boxes before. I have no issues logging into vSphere from a browser on the CS box (full admin, create VMs, delete VMS, etc) - but from CS console on the same box - I get the above error.

Hyper-V cluster backup failure

Good day all I have an issue with a Hyper-V cluster.I have 6 nodes that are all VSA’s.Three of the nodes were upgraded to Windows Server 2016. The remaining three are on Windows 2012 and are pending an upgrade.Since the upgrade it seems that the hosts in the cluster do no communicate with each other during a VM backup.If I use the upgraded nodes as the only VSA’s then I have on issue.Is this issue due to different OS versions? I’ve checked the account permissions on the cluster and the nodes and they’re all correct. The error is see is the normal authentication one usually associated to a permission issue.Error Code: [91:50] Description: Unable to connect to virtual machine host [CORE01] as user [xxx]. Please ensure that the access node is able to communicate with the host and that the user account and password are correct. Source:core05, Process: vsbkp  Core01-03 are Server 2016 Core04-06 are Server 2012 Would the OS discrepancy be something within Commvault or something at a Hyper-V

back fail and vm not power on

vm server backup fail with the snap creation time and it shutdown the sever and cannot power on it back again. please help for this. Belowe error shows in commserver Error Code: [91:30] Description: Unable to open the disks for virtual machine [SIEM]. Please ensure the following: 1) the proxy is able to communicate with the Host and resolve the Host address 2) the correct transport mode has been selected 3) the disk types configured to the virtual machine are supported. Indexing backups on DFSR HyperV servers are taking hours

We have network drives we backup on DFSR servers on Hyper-V servers, up until recently we could index the backups and pick files for restores.  This is now either timing out after many hours or we get the following error“Browse failed due to error while mounting virtual machine: Failed to mount VM for live browse” This is becoming a real issue for us because if we cant browse these files and folders then we have no way of restoring files for users, and as such our data protection is at serious risk

Restoring a VM to another VMware vCenter

Hi, I'm new to Commvault and I have a question regarding the "Restore-CVVirtualMachine" PowerShell command. I wanted to make a script that will restore a VM from a backup created in the source VMware vCenter to the destination VMware vCenter using PowerShell. As far as I can see, the "Restore-CVVirtualMachine" command only supports restoring to the same original VMware vCenter.At the same time, I can easily restore from the Commvault console to the target VMware vCenter.Does Commvault support recovery from PowerShell to another vCenter?
