I have configured an app-aware (SQL) VM backup and the initial job ran successfully and pushed out the required agent to the VM and subsequently backed up the SQL instance however the schedules initially assigned to VM look to have been applied to SQL subclient which causes the job to fail on next run and every run thereafter as the application is trying to be backed up both as an app-aware VM but also a standalone SQL backup.Has anyone else had this issue with SQL app-aware backups?
I have a customer who upgraded 4 of their Hyper-V hosts to new hardware (2 sockets per host).I installed the VSA on the 4 new hosts and released the licenses on the old hosts.2 of the hosts have not reported back to the Commserve indicating they’ve been released. I retired the clients, with no change.I restarted Commserve Services and ran a Data Aging Job.The license summary report is still reporting over use.
Hi Just like a ‘Plan’ can be created as a base plan and additional plans ‘derived’ from the base plan….Does/ will such a concept exist for VM Groups The idea ofHaving a ‘base’ VM Group creating multiple derivative VM groups, with partial optional overrides then having the derivative VM groups ‘update’ when the base group is updatedThis would be incredibly usefulPS: There are mechanisms to come up with a ‘coded’ solution to this (and there is a subclient cloning process), but having a solution within the Admin Center would be ideal
Hi All, I have an environment having issues using NBD Transport getting the old “VDDK Deadlocks” (FR21 with VDDK 7.0.0), VMware Environment is 7 U1c.Has anyone used VDDK 7.0.1 or 7.0.2? Also, is there any plans to include these VDDK versions in later FR’s/MR’s? Thanks & Regards,Michael
Hi, We have 2 Windows Commvault Servers.Previously, none of them could do a LiveBrowse for Windows VMs during a Guest Files and Folders restore task. After we put Commvault exclusion on our anti-virus (SentinelOne), and turned off Firewalls on them, the LiveBrowse is now working on Windows Commvault Server No.1, but still not working on the Windows Commvault Server No.2 which always fails with LiveBrowse error code -6, failed to initialize VM disks. The 2 Servers are very similar except thatThe No. 1 uses local disks as disk library, whereas No. 1 uses a NAS as disk library. The No. 1 Commvault is 11.20, whereas No. 2 Commvault version is 11.14Just to see if the NAS is the issue for No. 2, I’ve setup a local drive as disk library for a test backup, followed by a LiveBrowse restore, but failed again with the same error message. I’ve logged a case with Commvault support, but the engineer couldn’t figure out why either so he has decided to escalate the case, however, I was told to upgrade
V11 FR22HiI have a new ESX server at a remote site which has been integrated into our vCenter, there is no backup infrastructure at this remote site.As I understand it, I am sending all the traffic from the remote site to my Media Agent (which is also the Proxy Server) at the central site, which then does the deduplication workIs there a way to get client side deduplication working at my remote site, to lessen the load over the network and speed up the backup, would a local proxy server do the trick?Hope that makes senseMany thanksMark
Hi Team, I want run the backup only once in a week, my CVLT version is 11.21.20 there o option to schedule the backup on weekly basis due to no availability of “ Run incr backup before sytheticfull option” can some suggest how can schedule weekly backups without daily incremental.
I've had multiple instances of duplicate client computers showing in the Comcell Console when using an In-Guest agent and then later including the VM for backup. Whilst I know (and have successfully) merged clients to remove the duplicates i would like to understand how Commvault decides when a discovered VM is the same as a client that is already discovered/configured for backup in a different way (ie with an installed agent in the guest). Thanks in advance.
Hi,i have used the article to convert VSA/MA as FREL for vmware. in the documentation i don’t understand the need of creating a XFS mount for the FBR cache folder.there is a difference on the performance when the FBR cache is in ext4 instead of XFS ?regards,
Recently updated credentials password and now getting intermittent backup job failures. Failure reason: error code 91:139 Unable to connect to virtual machine host. Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password.] Source: sdcvcsa01, Process: vsdiscovery ; I have verified the AD password and validated it again across the virtual machine credentials. Also, verified that m y AD password is not changing or account being locked out anywhere else.
Hi all, we have the situation that we must backup hyper- cluster enviroment and some vms have vhds disks attached. As we know vms with vhds disks attached are not allowed to backup. We create 2 Subclients: 1 → Manually selection of all vms with vhdx discs only2 → Manaully selection of vms with system disc ( vhdx ) and exclude of vhds discs Now we have the problem that new created vms are not backup automaticcly. When we create an 3 subclient with the content of all unproteced vms it could be that new created vms with vhds are backuped and we went into trouble. My 2 Questions: 1 do you know any filter possibility for rthe vhds disks ?2 Is it possible to create an report for this cluster that reports all vms wich are not backuped or included in the 2 subclients ? regards Sebastian
Hi.I am new to commvault and i deployed cloud control (all in one) in Azure. After initial settings, when i navigate to protect section, i couldn't find application section at all. In the guided setup page, i could see cloudapps with tick enabled, but when i click it. Its not navigating me to cloudapps section. Is this a bug or am i missing anything here?Cloud control version : 11.22.0
Hello, customer changed IP adresses of some ESXi hosts. Now the software claims that 14 of 12 socket licneses are used. Looking in the license summary report we can see three hosts with the old and the new IP address. Is there a way to clean this up? Or do we need to wait for a full backup for each and every VM?RegardsMario
Hello Everyone, Newbie alert. Please correct me if I understand this right. Subclients enabled with Intellisnap backups using NetApp array integration will go like this - A job will be triggered and a VMware and NetApp snapshot will be taken and the snap backup job will finish. Then the backup copy operation will trigger which will mount the datastore to the proxy VM through the proxy ESXI (we have NFS datastores and our proxies are running as VMs). The VMDKs will be copied to the library through this operation and it will finish. Now we have installed a new NetApp array and the team is continuously relocating the VMs to the new datastores round the clock. Now our snapbackups are completing but when we are triggering the backup copy operation, that is failing with “Unknown VMInfo error ”. After marking the Job as do not copy and running the snap backup again, we are able to successfully complete the backup copy. What would be the best approach to make sure that our backup copy operatio
Hi Everyone,Is there a way to set maximum concurrent restores per replication group/VSA proxy for LiveSync for VMware? Running re-sync of all VMs at the same can be problematic. Thanks!
We recently noticed that during our Domain Controller / Active Directory agent installed during the backup we get a scom alert that says “AD Replication Monitoring : The following DCs have clocks which are set in the future. This can cause replication errors in Active Directory and prevents the 'AD Replication Monitoring' script from detecting replication errors. It happens on our primary Domain Controller and it affects our other two servers. I have the VSA backing up the VM and a separate schedule that backs up the AD portion. I don’t see any alerts or failures in the job history, any thoughts? If I remove the primary NTP / AD server from the backup schedule the error is not generated so I’m thinking maybe contention / overlap with the VSA and AD client?
Which port need to open among CS, MA and VSAProxy to take Openstack Backup. I want to take FileSystem /DB or VM backup from Openstack Environment.
Hi all!Based on documentation (11.22) there should be an option for P2V (Virtualize Me) in Command Center:https://documentation.commvault.com/11.22/essential/98093_performing_virtualize_me_for_windows_or_unix_computers.html There is no such thing in my case:What am I missing?Version: 11.22.9. Thanks!
I need to know the snapshot size from all my vmware clients across all backupsets and subclients in a single report. I will analyze how many free space I need on vmware datastores while backup is running.I see the info on job details, but it would be easier if I have an own report for that in a single view.I tried the powershell module with Get-CVJobDetails, but in the output the snapshot size is missing.Any idea?
What will be the impact of changing the name of datastore in vmware which is being used in commvault.
I’m getting the error message when making a backup of a Windows VM “Failed to enable changed block tracking [Change tracking cannot be enabled when snapshots are present]”I cannot delete this old snapshot because I need this version of the VM. Do you know any way to make backups of the VM without snapshot so I can use here “Changed Block Tracking” again?
I’ve configured MS SQL VMs in Hyper-V for AppAware backups in Commvault 11.22.3. As detailed on docs.commvault.com an automatic log backup schedule is created and log backups proceed as planned. In the CommCell Console I can only find them through the client > ‘SQL Server’ > instance > ‘default’ subclient, right-clicking Schedules. They’re shown with an empty Schedule Policy name. They’re not shown in the Schedule Policies section, nor in the Scheduler, so no easy way to manage multiple ones at the same time. What am I missing?
We plan on adding new ESXi (VMware) vCenters to our existing environment. During this our Virtual admins will be adding a couple at a time and then moving the existing VMs over so we will have the old ones in place and new ones.I know I will have to deploy and configure the new vCenter (VSA) client and add the hosts and we use Folders. So the Folder names will be mirrored in the old and new existing vCenter environments. With all that being said how will Commvault treat the first backup on the new vCenter clients? Will they be considered full because they are on new hosts or will it see the existing data and only treat it like an incremental because of how the Global Dedupe policy works? I am curious because if everything is a “full” I won’t have the capacity.Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks.
I know the VSA client, an our hypervisor is VMware, uses a snapshot to perform the backup. Does this process modify the “last access” date for the VM and or files? I know you can configure the File iData agent to track this but cannot find if the snapshot modifies this attribute. Thanks.
We are using Livesync to replicate HyperV VMs into Azure. Once in Azure we are able to power up the VMs without issue, but we are wondering how other users are automating the task of setting a static IP both in the Azure Network settings, and in the Windows Server ipv4 settings. We have tried manually creating the network adapters in Azure, but you aren’t able to select the adapter in the livesync setup.
