I have a new Dell Poweredge R750 sitting in a box with SSD RAID BOSS and 12x18TB NL-SAS on a H755 RAID controller.It's going to be running Windows Server 2019 or 2022 and will be a backup server holding both Commvault and Veeam data.The server will boot off the SSD BOSS and the NL-SAS is purely backup storage.At a PERC level I expect I'll go with RAID6.At a the Windows level I'm not clear whether there are IO benefits splitting it out into lots of small (5-10TB) volumes (which are all sitting on the same physical RAID) or whether to keep it simple and have one or two large volumes and segment data using folders.The current disk library is sitting on a pair of older Windows Poweredges with around 12x4TB mount paths which need migrating to the new hardware.Unless there’s a real benefit I’d sooner have a single large flexible Windows volume with 12 subfolders for each mount path than be messing around creating 12x volumes.I presume there is no way to consolidate down the number of mount p

I’m fairly new to Commvault, and I’m responsible for our SAP for Oracle backups.  I am going through our systems and I’m trying to determine what the benefits/tradeoffs of a “Selective Online” vs Full Online backups.  There isn’t much data about what is/isn’t backed-up between the two options, if any. We currently run one full backup per week and arclogs run every 15 min to 1 hour depending on the data/usage.  We backup to disk with a secondary offsite disk aux copy and Metallic aux copy.  No tapes.Thanks!

Hi Guys, During an Azure VM Restore I noticed the VMs post restore gets powered on and shutdown even after the “Do not power on the virtual machine post restore” option is unchecked while restore. Why it happens ? Is it specific to Azure VMs only or this is same behavior for all the VM restores. Regards,Pank1988

Hi,i try to backup my Sharepoint 2013 server. Last backup runs on 21.12.2022.Now if i try to browse to file agent or sharepoint agent i get this error like at the attachment.Commvault version is 11.28.44.Other agents works fine.Any idea why i can’t get access?RegardsDennis

Hello.  I upgraded commserve v11sp16 to v11sp20 but, v10 client connection failed after upgraded If the client is v10 when the combo is v11sp20, is it not compatible?

When setting up the live sync two of the nine databases show in the General tab of the SQL Live sync options, on the primary server.  The backup server has all but one show in the SQL live sync options.  What would cause the databases to not show?  These servers are identical with the same versions of windows server and SQL running on them.  I need to have all of the databases replicated to the backup server.

Is it possible to create a classic mailbox backup?In my old version 11.20.xx this works for me.I made a mistake on my Windows Media Agent i i delete the subclient DDBBackup. Is it possible to recreate it? On my Windows Media Agent i delete the “Virtual Server” Object in the Commcell Console. Is it possible to create it?Thanks and regardsDennis 

How do you exclude a drive (partition) from a Windows backup?

Hi, We have just replaced the Commvault with another backup solution recently, and therefore, we are going to decommission the Commvault (nothing wrong with Commvault though, it’s just a decision made by the headquarter where the Netbackup had already got a larger deployment scale). However, there is a problem.We have some Commvault tape backups which by regulation, need to be kept for 7 years. Therefore, in theory, we need to keep the existing Commvault (somewhere) for the same duration, right ?But, I’ve noticed 2 things about those tapesThe backups on those tapes don’t really have 7 year retention, it’s merely the fact that they are kept off-site (by a 3rd vendor) for 7 years ! In other words, all of those backups have already expired in the Commvault catalog. Even those tapes themselves are no longer in the Commvault So, my question is, giving the circumstance, is there still any point of keeping the Commvault ? Or the Commvault can still retrieve data from those tapes for restore,

Hi Guys, We are using virtual operating instance license instead of capacity based license. We released the license of few VMs but still their backups are running.When I released the license they were greyed out but upon next schedule they turned active. Regards,pank1988

Hi there, I would like to ask you if it is better to have dedicated VSA proxy VM or if the VSA role should be taken by Commserve server? What should be taken into account? Let’s say, there is a smaller environment roughly said 20TB of data and only VMs. Unfortunately, I didnt find any recommendations or best practices.

Hello, This recent vulnerability has been detected. It seems to be a vulnerability in Apache Commons Text.The affected versions of Apache Commons Text are 1.5 to 1.9.  Does this affect Commvault too?

I have a request to extend the backup job summary report to include information about the schedule from which the job was started. I think I've searched every DB view but can't find any reference from a completed job to the ScheduleID. Can you please give me a reference or explain why this is not saved?

A customer has 4 servers for this windows DFS that uses the same UNC path. The issue is that currently these 4 servers are out of sync. Based on the local configuration/physical location, end users access the namespace via different access nodes/servers. For example, user A has a profile saved on server A, it didn't get synced to server B,C,D; next time user creates a new profile on server B, he would lost everything saved on server A.The customer is seeking solution to consolidate data from 4 servers then migrate a master copy to new servers.I tried to set up network share subclient and backup was successful. When I looked at the backup log it appears that Commvault only use one access node to perform the backup. I know it is more like a sync issue which most likely needs to be resolved before backup but can you please advise if anything can be offered from Commvault? Kind regards,Boyi

Pretty straightforward question. 

We have a client who we need to give a nightly full copy of their MS SQL DB to their azure blob storage.  We have been manually doing this weekly by using MS Azure File explorer to send to them, but they want it nightly.  I have added their Azure blob storage as a library, but I’m unsure how to create a job to do this.  I need to supply them with either a .bak of their DB, or MDF/LDF file that they can use as needed.  Does anyone know of a simple way I can do this?  Thanks.

So - we have a media agent which is a “few” years old and has Windows Server 2012 R2 on it.  It’s been just smashing during its tenure.  However, Server 2012 doesn’t recognize a new SAN recently purchased.  That and the fact that 2012 won’t be supported next year (10/2023) means now’s a great time to upgrade. However, because of driver issues (I believe), no in-place upgrade is being successful.  Basically, I’m looking at a fresh install on the same hardware.The library is stored under a folder on C:, so we’ll call it c:\library\...01, 02, 03, etc.  “01” and such are folders mapped over fiber to various SANS.   Is it possible.. to reinstall the OS, from scratch, and preserve that library?  I’m suspecting a DR recovery method (https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/97435_performing_no_loss_recovery_operation_of_commserve_host.html), but I’d need to recreate all of the SAN connections exactly as they were before.  Has anyone attempted this?  Any advice?
