When Commvault introduced the defaultArchiveSet alongside the defaultBackupSet I think I misunderstood how it was supposed to be used an this resulted in me misconfiguring that subclient. We have a file server which has a number of drives that I backup, but we also wanted to archive files within that backup location. So we setup seperate subclients one under defaultbackupset and one under defaultarchiveset. This has caused some of the same data to be backed up twice. What I am thinking is that we should have just configured archiving under the defaultbackupset subclient and left the defaultarchiveset alone?  

In the chargeback report, it’s (should be) possible to define global price & billing tags.But that’s per TB. How to set that per GB? If not possible, will commvault to the correct math from Tb to gb? I mean: If we use 100 for 1TB, will commvault calculate for 600Gb:      (100/1024)*600 =  58.59   or will it use rounding (e.g 0 or 100)   

Good morning!We are trying to set up DynamoDB backups for additional accounts within an organization.  We have the EC2 instances backing up using STS Assume Roles.  Do we need to add the DynamoDB permissions to that assume role?  Do we need permissions added to the top level VSA as well?  Is the best practice to provide access a different way?  Can we even use the assume role?Thanks!

Hi, it’s not clear in the documentation about if it this is supported or not ?I have a customer who has OS = SLES 15 Plaform = ppc64le.We are trying 1-Touch recovery of those servers.I have used the DVD for the Store (1-Touch Linux Live Boot Disc, DVD4_R11B80_SP24.iso), it is bootable inside intel but not inside a PPC64le Platform !We are also receiving this warning since we have enabled 1-Touch Recovery at the sub client level !Error Code: [6:966] Description: System state backup failed : [Failed to populate ReaR conf file. Check sr.log/sr_post_backup.log for details.] Source: sappcal101, Process: sr   

I am running Multiple Commvault Servers and storage agents in Azure, I have created several dashboards to monitor these VM’s but it’s at the VM level rather than the Commvault application level. Has anyone created an Azure Dashboard that monitors Commvault at the application level. I do realize that this can be done from the Commvault Dashboard but it would be useful for support to have a dashboard within azure that can highlight performance issues.

Hello Just did a new install of SP24 as a test environment, Install successful but the adminconsole does not work.Commvault\ContentStore\Apache\work\Catalina\localhost\adminconsole is emptyComparing to my woking prod environment there should be a lot of files there.I tried the install 2 times, did a repair of the installation as well but nothing helped.Can I just copy the Catalina dir from my working environment??

Hi Team,we have a case, where customer is trying to perform one touch recovery  It seems like the pin doesn't work. We can type in the password and PIN and it lists the clients. Once the desired client is selected it seems like it's trying to use the password again but the PIN has expired so it says wrong password or username.i have checked the  previous cases for the  same issue.and the  resolution provided was one touch recovery does not support 2FAand a reference CMR was created CMR ID 256780

Hi All, We have set exclusion on some of the VMs so that backup does not happen for those VMs. However, on some days, we see that this exclusion is not considered in Commvault and backup for all the VMs in that subclient runs which causes a lot of issues. However, when we go and check in the preview of the contents in the sub client we do not see the excluded servers in it and the next backup that starts runs fine with exclusion in place. Do anyone have any thoughts on why this is happening? Regards, Deepa

Hi experts, I got a question about NetApp Snapshot from a customer but I’m not sure.Can you help me on this? Customer plans to perform the Oracle Backup using Intellisnap for NetApp iSCSI LUN.After initial full backup NetApp will take a snapshot based on changed block and then CVLT performs subsequent/incremental backup using the snapshot from NetApp. Can we perform an incremental backup? and changed block/data is only backed up?Customer intends to save the backup image into Object Storage. I was wondering if we can perform an incremental backup using NetApp Snapshot andif we can perform a synthetic backup on Object Storage. (Full + Incremental Image) From what I heard for NBU they can do only a full backup, not incremental backup using snapshot.Thanks

I have the following question and hoping someone can answer:I have to migrate data (multiple terabytes) from a Windows-based file server to OneDrive (Office365). The data contains archived data of the last 10 years. Commvault Archiving is being used. Currently, the single policy archives all files which have not been accessed for the last 5 years.I can migrate data, but the archive files (stubs) are unarchived as soon as I migrate the data to OneDrive. This caused file server space to bloat as the stubs got unarchived.The client does not want to delete any data even after migration. I have the following question:How to mitigate the risk of the file server going out of space during migration?Also, please advise any other migration strategy to OneDrive other than direct copying, which does not risk file server space bloating.Thanks. 

Hello,I have restored a Linux redhat VMware VM out of place with another name . the VM has vmxnet 3 network driver and has VMware tools enabledwhen I restored the VM, and powered on it, the network cardmac address change and a new device “Wired connection 1” is created inside the guest, then I need to set the IP again.Do you know if it is possible to restore a backup out of place and keep the network settings without manual modificationsFor windows machines no issue.Thanks !! 

Need some suggestion :What is the recommended way to configure Commvault logs in Splunk . Which will provide you more control over the logs .To use Commvault Splunk app https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/5718/ . To configure syslog server and then move logs from CommVault to syslog and create your own dashboards , reports in Splunk .Does using the app provide something more which we can not get if we configure our monitoring based on the logs of syslog.Can the app dashboards and reports be customized or create new reports/dashboards as per the requirements ?

Hi, If a VM has the setting to Disable VSS application quiescing in VMware Tools, will this affect the VADP initiated quiescing through CV VSA backup? Will it at all affect the Filesystem and Application Consistent (quiesced) data protection operation?/Patrik 

When restoring a database into the SQL instance, how much diskspace is needed at the destination server?I know that its a question about how large the database is. But if the database is at 10TB, will it be enough with 10TB of free space or will it need more space as part of the restore process? I know that it’s a bad idea only to have the exact space needed available, so the numbers are just a theoretical. So what is the proces behind the scenes when restoring a database?Br. I have commserv at 11.22.57 and planning to go with 11.25.xx once 11.27 is released want to replace stand by commserv ( windows to linux) and later production ( windows to linux) at this movement the windows commserv can be allowed to have live sync to linux stand by commserv ? 

Curious if there’s a better way for users with specific roles to access the Commcell other than  the CommVault Simpana.jnlp.  I downloaded/extracted netx.jar and it opened to the Commcell a couple times, then failed.  Thx! 

Hisoftware_installation_directory\CommserveDRThis folder contains the SQL DMP files, typically generated every day at 10am(Unless the config is changed and this initial dump folder is moved elsewhere) Do the DMP files remain in the folder ‘up until’ the next days DMP files are generatedORDoes the entire ‘folder’ get wiped/deleted at a pre defined time each day (eg possibly at mid night) I’ve never checked this before and have a test running to see if the ‘folder’ is erased or whether the contents are erased at (say) midnight

Hi guys, yesterday I tripped over an interesting information in my Commcell Event Viewer. User [admin] attempt to log on was denied.Severity: InformationProgram: EvMgrSI got this entry every 2-5 minutes and I ask myself where it comes from because I thought we don’t use this user. There is no use of user ‘admin’ in task scheduler or in our Automic UC4.Any idea where I can find further information?Thanks in advanceChristian

HelloIn Job details for a completed backup is the “No of Files(s):” just calculating files, no folders?  Trying to find 4 miljon files out of 8 miljon that are stated as backed up but I can only find roughly 4 miljon files in source (with exclusions in mind)./Henke
