Hi Community, I want to know about the strategy which we can take for data protection of cloud workloads using CommVault .Do we need to deploy CS in cloud or we can use on-prem cs for backup of cloud as well as on prem workloads ? if yes , How ?Please share if there is any sample reference architecture diagram for backup of cloud workloads ?What type of backup library to be used for cloud workloads backups ?

Is Windows Server 2022 supported on Commvault 11.22

Hello,I need for a automation project get the last successful backup job of a subclient. I found last job of a client, but when we have SQL server with some instances the list of jobs are very long and exceed the limit  10000 as the list is not from newest to oldest, so I need all jobs to find the last JOB number. Any ID how I can get simply the last jobid of subclient?we have commcell with 11.20.55 running thanks for any help.regards Juergen

Hello,I am looking for best method/practices to perform the backup & restore of the infrastructure as detailed below.VMWare environment with Datastores coming from NetApp storage.NetApp LUNs are also presented to ESXi servers and mapped to multiple Linux VMs (generally 4 VMs) as RDM LUNs in the physical compatibility mode. OS can see the LUNs as Direct Access LUNs.4 x VMs are in Clustered environment running Veritas Cluster. The clustered file system are on either of the node at a time and application run from that node.We are not using IntelliSnap, even if I configure IntelliSnap (NetApp) I think taking image level backup of the VM including RDM LUNs would not be sufficient.Thanks in advance for your response.Regards,Jaspreet

Hi Team, We currently have quite a large Secondary Copy of data, writing to object-based storage and I am just reviewing its health status (note - this is NOT cold storage in any way).At the moment it looks pretty good, but a while ago I seem to remember it was Commvault’s recommendation to periodically seal these large DDB’s. I believe this was in order to maintain healthy DDB performance.Does anyone know if this still applies? The reason I’m asking, is that I so far haven’t seen that recommendation in the documentation, but it is possible it is squirreled away somewhere. To help assist there is a summary here (approx):- 2 PartitionsSize of DDB                        950 GB (each).Unique Blocks                    500 millionQ&I 3 days                         1200Total Application Size          15 PB (yes, PB)Total Data Size on Disk        550 TBDedupe Savings                 96.5%Infinite retention (critical data needed for longterm and potential legal needs). If I have this right

Client server stopped backing up over two weeks ago.  Check Readiness and Cvping are good.  The client log list the following error on the Windows server.    errors occurred while processing the request. (ERROR_ERRORS_ENCOUNTERED.774))-IFind Thread Wrapper Run returned error}

Is it acceptable to share a NFS Mount Path using a different Media Agent (same OS, same kernel, same updates, same NTP etc) with a different Local Path?   CommVault 11.24.12 

This has been driving me mildly nuts for the past 3 days post a power shutdown for our site.We had some challenges with our storage network, that prevented iSCSI comms for a few hours after we powered up our site post some scheduled electrical work.We solved that by the software equivalent of a power on/power off on the switches in question (two unrelated port channels to our SAN were disabled/re-enabled). Great. iSCSI works again with all hosts.The MA in question, a VM, is borrowing space on a temporary basis from a newer array, as I am doing a lot of migration work, and is mounting the volumes in Windows via iSCSI as opposed to using an iSCSI mounted data store in VMWare which is treated as an HDD by the OS.   Keep in mind, this was all working swimmingly before this past weekend.  For the past three days, CV is convinced that the 5 mount points in question are offline, and do not have a controller.  If you go to the OS, and browse, you can drill down as deeply into the mounted volum

I am trying to make sure that all the backup copies finsih successfully without making the overall media agent slow.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/101443_turning_off_parallel_backup_copy_capability.htmlI have Subclients 1,2,3,4,5,6 datastores going to SP copies (snap, disk, tape).I want to make sure that the backup copies run serially. So have created a schedule to start the backup copy job automatically every 120 minutes. Do I need the above key or the backup options setting → No of Jobs to Run: No. of Simultaneous Jobs to run =1 > Run all the backup copy jobs serially? Will this also affect the synthetic fulls backups so that they are triggered one after the other every 2 hours? 

I have this error “Permission denied, Checkpoint restore is blocked for DB [F:\Commvault\IndexCache\CvIdxDB\..] due to recent restore failure (ErrNo.13)”  The index cache has enough space,around 800G free space  AIX file system ,last index backup is 25 Oct 2021   Any tips on how to solve it,?

Hi All,I’ve problem smon when restore oracle DB EE to oracle DB SE. it can be possible restore DB EE to DB SE ? i search in oracle forum, using rman it’s not possible to restore DB EE to DB SE, must migrate the data. i using CV 11.20. My pfile and spfile is copied from DB EE to DB SE and set same DB ID too. Anyone have same problem ?

Report to find if a specific username is being used in multiple locations on Commvault We recently changed the password of a username that was being used to backup different environments.Is there a report in Commvault that I can use to search for a username such as domain\username so as to find out if it is being used to backup say 10 different environments.

HI,   recently we had a customer who upgrade their SQL environment to CU12. this caused there CS live sync to stop working. this was all resolved in a ticket with support and a hotfix from DEV.   but now the customer is wanting to install CU13 and is afraid that this will cause the same issues as seen with CU12. is there any documentation on CU support on SQL? can you confirm if CU13 is installable on FR23 with the DIAG hotfix Diag3626? Thank you, Kind Regards, Thos Gieskes.

Hi! I was trying to create a script using python for VM and FS clients that are configured on our Commvault software.I’ve used several references (below is a sample) and used the sandbox APIhttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/45898_rest_api_get_client_properties.html But, unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a more granular result. Like for example, I’ve used Get /Client/VMPseudoClient API, Get VMBrowse (but unable to find PseudoClientId and inventoryPath) ang Get ClientID (but I am also getting clients that were unlicensed already) but all operations does not give me the information I need. I need to get the VM subclients under active VSA Agent and also FS clients that are currently licensed and being backed up.  Do you guys have any sample that I can refer to? Thanks a bunch! 

I have a windows client. The user would like to know if they can backup files with folder paths that are greater than 260 characters. During my initial research, I found the sSupportLongPath setting. According to the documentation, the setting may only apply to Linux systems. Can someone help clarify this for me? Also, how many characters does 1024 bytes equal to? Thanks in advance!  Does this setting apply to Windows File systems? 

We have a Commvault infrastructure running in Azure with all clients in Azure and we are thinking of converting the Azure storage accounts to be immutable, has anyone any experience of doing this?I think that this will increase the amount of storage being used by a factor of between 2 and 3 but just wanted someone who had actual experience of doing this to comment on this?

We are putting in a  new commcell and starting completely fresh and don’t want to import anything from the old but we will be backing up the same clients as the old commcell. Are any client configuration changes (client Win registry, config files etc) required if the new commcell wants to backup the client which was previously backed up by another commcell? The old commcell domain will remain for a while for restores and the conversion will be staggered.  The idea is if there are changes required on client they will have to flipped back to the original for restores.The old commcell agent software is reasonably up to date and we trying to avoid installing two agents on the same client.    Thanks Jim   

Commvault 11.24.12According to the documentation, “The mount path label file is required for the pruning of aged data in the mount path”.Create Mount Path Labels WorkflowIs the DEVICE_LABEL file the mount path label file?Do I need one to every mount path to prune aged data? Some of our Mount Paths don’t have one.  Does it apply to Mount Paths secured by CommVault Ransomware Protection?     

Hi,We are converting from storage polices to plans.  When we move a sql agent to Plans, it leaves behind the legacy schedule policy.  So now jobs are doubling up unless we manually remove the association from the old schedule policy.  Is anyone automating this process or know of how we can easily move to the plan and not have the old policy hang around. Would this be a CMR to request the remove old schedule and maybe have to agree to remove it?

We have several users accounts that first started as a local CommCell user and then later was Active Directory SSO enabled.  When I try to delete any of these users I get an error:Transfer of OwnershipI am never prompted to select a new owner like I get on all the most recent users. I have tried manually transferring ownership then a delete but get the same error.I have also tried deleting from either locations; CommCell Users and Domains And Organizations/Users. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
