I’ve been reading up on WORM but don’t think it’s the solution we’re looking for as I believe it is applied at the storage level. I would like to lock a single database full backup and the week’s incremental backups from being aged off or accidentally deleted.
Try to use workflow to create multiple subclients (around 10) backup task. Once previous job completed, the next hob will kick in automatically. However also would like to get each job status such as completed, failed etc. Is there a way to achieve that? Also is there any workflow example with some explanation. It is so hard to get workflow detail examples online. Thanks,North
Wonder if one subcilent can use different tape media, for example, mixing LTO8 and LTO9 on one subclient. Thanks,S.
Hi, is there a reason we are unable to remove default exclusions within a laptop plan? v11.38Any additional setting to change that?Thank you.greyed out exclusions...
Hi,I have noticed aux copies and such taking longer and longer since either moving to 11.32 or 11.36, can’t tell when exactly this started. But now I see loads of decrypt processes running on the MA’s and TTBOMK we’ve not changed copy settings or anything to say “re-encrypt” data, yet that’s what appears to have happened during the leap from 11.28 to .32 and then .36. I hadn’t spent much time thinking of this until recently and now it’s clear the MA’s are spending loads of cycles apparently re-encrypting stuff during aux copies.Does anyone know if some fundamental change was made if you had encryption enabled but same strength that would cause so much extra processing to need to be done?Could it be due to different block sizes on the data paths between the global copy settings?thanks!
Hi,I know that at Command Center > Protect > Virtualization > VM we can get “Oldest recovery point” for that specific VM.I need a report with all VMs with “Oldest recovery point”. Any ideas?I know that “Latest recovery point” is easy and already available at some predefined reports.ThanksHC
Hi Team,Please I need help with the following question.Currently in our Commvault environment, we backup VMs and databases hosted on the Nutanix HCI platform. We have several clusters, prod cluster, database cluster, dev clutser and backup cluster, the backup cluster was configured as an object storage for the storage of our backup data. It has buckets configured for the different clusters being backed up. For each cluster, there is a primary and secondary library. We currently run daily incrementals, weekly fulls on Fridays, montly fulls and yearly fulls. We have aux copy job configured to copy data from the primary library to the secondary library. Extended retention was configured on both the primary and seconday library, for the primary(basic retention = 14days, 1 cycle, extended retention = weekly full for 30days, monthy full for 365days and yearly full for 1095days), while on the secondary (basic retention of 30days, extended retention = weekly full for 90days, monthly full for 73
Hi all,This question relates to v2 indexed VM backups. I’m running out of ideas and wondering what special reg keys might exist to somehow force the “auto” synth full schedules over more days than the rolling schedule based on retention). In this case we backup 3000+ VMs, most of which use a single plan but multiple VM groups/subclients to split them up by datastore. This used to work OK before moving to plans as each subclient would or could have its own schedule policy. My question is what do you guys recommend to split the synth fulls up ideally accross 7 (or 14) days given that is the retention? Basically becuase of how things were discovered, migrated, etc., there are days of the week where 1000 or more synth fulls run and many days where none run, so, that’s the issue trying to solve.I thought about derivative plans but I’d still need to futz with every one of them via console to undo the “auto” schedule and force particular days of the week.OR are some or many of you just running
I have restore user, using the webclient. And do not manage to find the oldest backupjob for a server. Have tried several servers and it is the same problem. The “General” part is not showing for the server. As an admin I can see this part an there is information of the oldest backup for the client there. So workaround would be to give all restore users the access rights to show the “general” part of the server information. But what right is this? Do not want all to users to be sett as administrators... We tried to go and show backup history, but this do not show all backups for the server either. Have searched this problem, and this might have something to do with change of index version. But stil. Oldest backup is from 2021, and all backups show up in the old comserv thick client. But in the webclient only backups as far back as 2023 is showing. I can manualy brows in the calendar and find the starting point, but you can not browse month by mont several years back, to find when first

Hi all, We’re on version 11.36.46 and I cannot get the syntax to work.I’ve downloaded the template and used the syntax from https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/command_line_interface_configuration_postgresql_idataagent.html#creating-a-multinode-cluster-instance but I get:execute: Error 0x911: Failed to process request due to invalid entity information.Invalid clientId for clientName[CLUSTERNAME].Invalid instanceId for instanceName[INSTANCENAME] The new name is unique and has never been used. Has anyone gotten this to work as yet?
Dear Support Team,We are planning to upgrade our Commvault environment from the current version 11 SP16 (HPK38) to the latest available version (11.38). Please confirm the following points:Upgrade Path:Is there a mandatory intermediate step(s) through version(s) 11.28 (2022E) or/and 11.32?Are there any additional constraints in our configuration? SQL Server RequirementsWe currently use SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Is an SQL upgrade required before proceeding? Planned DowntimeWhat is the estimated downtime for each upgrade phase? Are there recommended time windows for specific components (CommServe, Media Agents, clients)? Are there any additional validation steps required?Thank you in advance for your support in planning this critical process.Best regards!
Hello,We have some jobs that are old and should have been pruned but isn’t. Thay are in the state of “Reconcile_Backup_Pending. I see the explanation below, but what I don’t know is how the syncronization is done and when it’s happening. We are hesitant to delete the jobs manually, though no jobs seems to be dependent of them. Can someone explain to me.Thank you.Henke
Good morning folks,There is a possibility to perform restores from MongoDB Cluster to a standalone server which is a single node replica set.On the other hand we wanted to know if the option to restore MongoDB ‘Restores files only’ does not appear from CommandCenter and if from the Java console. Thank you,Regards.
Is there a way to either report on or configure alerts for CBT failures? Right now, the only way we can catch them is by seeing that the job is running longer than expected. Running 11.36
I had Commcell concole installed and working on a Windows 11 24H1 laptop. After updating to version 24H2 my console disappeared and I am unable to reinstall it. Has this been seen before?

Hello,I was reviewing the support matrix in the 11.36 documentation for the Linux file system agent installation and noticed that Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS versions 5.x, 6.x, and 7.x are not listed.Does this imply that these versions are no longer supported? Will the installation of the 11.36 package fail on these clients? In previous releases documentation, such as 11.28 / 11.32 / 11.34, these versions were included in the support matrix Thanks
Hello community team,We have a new tape library Quantum I3 with LTO-9 Tape Units. The Auxiliary to Tape is running fine. Now we have exported tapes from our old Quantum I3 with LTO-8 tape units via the I/O slots and imported them into the new library via the I/O slots. The tape library sees the tapes, but it cannot read the content: No content found.I have already tried to run a catalog, but the catalog job shows no activity. It is noticeable that in the old library the barcodes are displayed with 6 digits, e.g. 002020 and in the new library with 8 digits, e.g. 002020L8.Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be and perhaps a solution? Kind RegardsFranz-Josef
Hello Commvault Community,Can I create a barcode rule for a tape library so that all tapes ending with L8 are recognized with the first 6 digits? All other tapes with 8 digits. We currently have the problem that we have LTO8 tapes in the old tape-library with 6 digits without L8 and these are not recognized in the new tape-library.The new LTO-9 tapes have 8 digits and end with L9.And if so, what else do I need to consider?
We upgraded from Commvault 11.32 to 11.36.39 on Jan 22, 2025, ever since we’ve upgraded we are havingissues where all our jobs start going into pending then failing. From Commvault developers all they can tell us is that Connections are not closing on the Linux CommServer. They are not able to tell us why this is happening, is there anyone else running a Linux CommServer andupgrading to 11.36.39 and having these type issue?
Is anyone running a Linux CommServe on Citrix XenServer? Pro’s / Con’sThank you
