I have been working with ExaGrid support on slow restore speeds for about 10 weeks now and we cannot seem to figure out why the restore speeds are so slow.  We are talking 10 hours to restore a single VMDK just to the Media Agent (as we are eliminating the overhead from VMware at the moment) to the high-speed disks on a Windows Server 2022 MA.  These are brand-new and before with Windows Server 2012, we didn't have any issues.  It seems that we are getting extremely slow READ performance when going back to the ExaGrid.  All backup jobs seem to work fine - we even moved the ExaGrid nodes to the same VLAN as the MAs to eliminate any network issues - but please keep in mind we are using Cisco ACI so everything is software-defined.  Moving them to the same VLAN actually DECREASED backup performance by 30% - we know this from using iPerf and TCP dumps.  Setup:  ** 4 x MAs - all running Windows Server 2022 with separate physical volumes for the DDBs and Indexes.  ** The DDBs are partitioned

hi, We are on 11.32.89.We have Azure HCI VMs and postgre iDA is installed. The backend storage library in netapp grid S3.We understand as per documentation that Azure HCI storage is not supported so far.https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/supported_hardware_storage_arrays.html As a workaround our solution engineer gave the following option to enable. Error is Appaware with “Virtual Server Application snap” engine is only allowed from VSA workflow. I could not understand what it means ?

Hello All, Yesterday I passed my first exam from Commvault site, from this website:https://commvault.csod.com/With one account. I see that currently there is another website with certification, where I have another account, from this link: https://readiverse.commvault.com/And questions which appeared in my head :).How to migrate avaialble certificates between the Commvault learning platforms? Is it still avaialble only exams for Commvault next paths layer (Engineer and Expert), I see only full courses with exams without any seperated exams. Regards, Michal

Hi,I do partner support and sometimes I advice my customers to collect logs.I had to notice that under FR36 we currently need to collect Log files manualy often on Linux clients.sentlogs runs in an error Job Status: [Completed With Error] The client [ora] got critical error: [There is not enough disk space in the [/opt/commvault/iDataAgent/jobResults/sendLogStagingFolder]. The available free space is [6.00] GB, please make sure to have at least [10.00] GB and retry the operations.].   Failed Client(s): ora    It will take some time until customers find enough space to sadisfy the threshold. May be it make sense to reserve 10GB in the future. I have tapes coming back from Fe.Mtn which have duplicate barcodes. one tape is from our old Networker environment and the other from Commvault. Is there a way to use the “cv tape tool” to see the content on the tapes before I start the restore operation?  

Hi all,We are reviewing our O365 Plan’s retention period. There are two settings 1. Retention 2. Version retention. I can’t find any documentation on Commvault website to explain each of these settings. Can someone please help to explain it a bit?Q1. Does every deleted items older than Retention get deleted? (e.g. a deleted email in an active mailbox that has passed the retention period will get deleted from backup?) Or, it only look at account level? (e.g. everything in a deleted account passed the retention period will get deleted, otherwise it stays)Q2. What exactly Version retention does? All our plan have this on infinite. I want to generate a report on the Protection Plans I have in place.  If I look at plans in Command Center and ask to Export a PDF or XLSX/CSV, I don’t get the level of detail I’m looking for (retention, # copies and backup frequency).Anyone have any suggestions on how to get that data?Thanks.

Hi,I have a scenario where I will need to protect VMware VMs which can be located either on Datastores from Storage1 device or Storage2 device.I will have 2 plans setup for this:Plan1 will backup VMs from Storage1 datastores to a backup Pool2 Plan2 will backup VMs from Storage2 datastores to a backup Pool1The issue is that Pool1 is tied with Storage1 and Pool2 is tied with Storage2 in the sense that if Storage1 goes down for any reason then Pool1 will be unavailable too. The same is true for Storage2 and Pool2.The other issue is that VMs can migrate between Storage1 and Storage2For these reasons I always need to have last backup chain available on the pool that is independent of the Storage device where VM is sitting during backup.Some time ago it was a default behavior to force Full backup after changing target Storage Policy and since my Plans use different Pools/SPs, then and that would basically solve this for me. But this is not the case anymore. So my question is: is there a way

Hello, good morning, how are you?I wanted to share a problem I'm facing in a client's Commvault environment.Their Commvault only does DR, it's currently on version 11.32, replication is done from VMware on-premise as the source to Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) as the destination. There's a machine that hasn't replicated for a long time because it can't back up due to the problem below.Erro code [91:460]Unable to create a snapshot on virtual machine [] because another task is already running on the virtual machine. The job will got to pending and be retried.I don't understand what it could be, the machine can't do full or incremental backups, we've already looked in VMware and there are no paralyzed tasks, in the replication monitor it has the SLA status as "not met" and the status is "Sync Enabled".If you could help, I would be very grateful. The machine hasn't replicated for over 5 days.

Recently, I received an email titled "Maintenance Release Availability Notice" (see attached image). I would appreciate it if someone could help me understand what these types of emails entail and what hotfixes are.As a beginner, I am not very familiar with the terminology and processes involved. From what I have gathered, maintenance releases seem to include updates and fixes, but I am not sure how they differ from regular updates. Good afternoonI would like to ask you a question, we are with Commvault recently and we have configured Webhook, so that through the service we generate incidents for problems with backups, with the circumstance that has lost the webhook connection on a couple of occasions, and we do not realize the situation until we check it manually.Is there any way to configure an e-mail alert to warn that Webhook has lost communication?Thanks in advance for your time, and replies 

The documentation covers using inputs pretty thoroughly when using SQL as a datasource.It is not so clear for using inputs, as parameters when rest is the data source.For example the documentation here makes no mention of rest parameters but instead has a blurb about the parameters traditionally used for SQLhttps://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/creating_http_data_sets.html For example, Lets pretend I am building an events report using the data picker and the events REST API as a dataset Someone explain to me ...  When using this as the report input? Thanks in advance.

Helo,I’m planning to upgrade my productive environment, but before that, I wanted to test the upgrade. Therefore, I have installed a test invironment with Evaluation license, what is valid for 60 days.I had too many tasks at the time and couldn't test everything. That's why I'm asking, is it possible to expand the Evaluation license with additional days or I have to reinstall my test environment after expiration?Thanks in advance.

Hello Everyone, my customer is running Commvault in version 11.32.83 and Qumulo in version 7.4.0.After he updated to Qumulo 7.4.1, Qumulo backups began to fail at the scan phase with the error:  “Failed to create snapshot or build snapshot information”Rolling back to Qumulo 7.4.0 resolves the issue.I’ve found that Commvault is aware of this issue and is working on the fix. Will the fix be included in future MR’s of 11.32?Best regards, Aleksandra

Hello everyone,In our backup environment, we have a CommServe and a Media Agent. We are currently using two policies:Policy A: Basic retention of 35 days. Policy B: Basic retention of 35 days, with extended retention: Monthly for 365 days and Yearly for 15 months.Backup Targets:Primary: Data Domain Secondary: Auxiliary copy to Azure Blob (combined storage tier Cool /Archive ).Since our data is on the Archive tier, restores are taking hours to rehydrate and restore. Therefore, we have decided to disable the combined storage tier and use container default (Cool).We plan to change the storage class to Cool and retain only basic retention backups in the Cool tier. We want to move any extended retention data to the Archive tier. Is this possible using Azure Blob Storage lifecycle management? Additionally, once the data is moved to the Archive tier based on the lifecycle policy, will it impact the auxiliary copy? We use Deduplication with DASH enabled.Thank you for your insights!

Hi,I’d like to Retire a Media Agent hosting a global dedup database on which my primary copies are pointing ,to keep only my secondary copies hosted on another MA for archival purposes.Looking at the documentation I found that I can seal a ddb using an xml script but its mentioning the parameters -storagePolicyName 'xxxxx' and -copyName 'xxxxx'. What in my case where I have a global dedup db with multiple copies linked to it?https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/retiring_deduplication_database.htmlThx in advance for your answers.
