Hey folks,Thanks for reading. I need some help. I just need pointed in the right direction, but this time, I’m under the gun and don't have time to do research.According to those in the know here, we have a virtual server that we use VMW Recover Point on to send a backup to another VM server at our DR location.My question is, doesn’t Commvault do this? Can we just back up the VM and move it to the DR site? Does that question even make sense?I’m pretty sure it can be done, I just don’t know where to start. Can someone be kind enough to point  me in the right direction? I feel like I am bouncing all over the place in the website and can’t find the right article to get started on.Thanks for the help.

Hi, I have deployed a Hyperscale X with 4 N24 nodes and in Command Center there is a toggel to enable File Indexing for VMware backups. If I read the documentation correct, toggle this switch will automatically deploy the Index Store package to one of the Media Agents associated with the Plan. At the same time there is a recommendation to setup a separate MA as Index Server and not to use the main Media Agents (in this case the HS-X nodes) I’m having difficulties to find the best practice and sizing guidelines for this setup. I would want to avoid installing a bunch of separate Media Agents and use the Hyperscale for this if supported. What is supported/recommended and best practice? Regards,/Patrik

Hello,is it possible using permission to limit a user to be able to perform a restore from a copy specific copy only ?I don’t want the user to restore from the AWS copy for example only the primary ! Thanks  

I have kind of an odd question. We have a VMware file server that has the primary data drive (D:) set to be compressed within Windows. During busy times where our system generates thousands of statements, the files server sometimes can’t keep up and we have problems. The plan to fix this is:Run a CommVault incremental backup of the virtual file server. Stop CommVault backups of the file server Create a new, uncompressed 8TB E: drive Shut down the application so nobody makes changes to the files. Run a script to sync the old, compressed D: to the new, uncompressed E: Unmount the existing compressed D: Rename the new uncompressed E: to D: Reboot the file server and check the “new” D: Bring the system online Complete a business test of basic functionality Run a full CommVault backup and enable regularly scheduled backupsOther than ensuring that CommVault does not attempt to run a backup while all the changes are taking place, I don’t think there’s anything special I need to do to ensure C

I thought I had this previously, but it’s not working as expected.I have a VM that has been replaced.  The VM still exists, though eventually I’ll delete it an associated files.  So I’d like to stop the backup process. My initial understanding is that you stop the process and then backups are retained until the retention time is reached.What I did was went into the option and chose to RETIRE.  However, the VM is still being backed up.  There’s also an option that says Do not back up.  So I’m confused.  What are my correct stops here to stop backing up and ultimately remove this device?

Hi, I have installed this agent for one of my customers,Everything is working fine.I have two questions :1- Is FS is preferable over VTL ?2- What is the purpose of the SubClient "DR Subclient" ? Is it the equivalent of the Save Entire Sys functionality on the IBM i ?Someone has a how-to on configuring this subclient and what it involved running it ?My knowledge of AS400 is none ! Hi! We recently deployed 2 HyperScale X Reference Architecture clusters at a customer, and found out that: Ransomware Protection is not enabled by default Linux Firewall is not enabled by default In my opinion, in current times, it is strange that by default the solution is so insecure.Why are the firewall and ransomware protection not enabled by default? And will that be addressed in a future release?

My OneDrive backups have stopped working because the five App / Secret Key combinations I had set up expired. I created new App / Secret keys and deleted the old expired ones from in Azure. I then signed on to CommandCenter, navigated to Protect > Office 365 > OneDrive_V2 > Configuration, added the new App / secret key values and deleted the old. When I click “Verify connection”, I get:The application wasn’t found in the directory/tenant. ErrorCode: AADSTS700016Does anyone know where the problem is?

We currently have an old (v11.20) setup with the Commserve at a central location, and multiple mediaagents with local iSCSI SAN at remote sites.As we’re about to do a major overhaul since both SW and HW support are expiring this year, there is a wishlist item that I haven’t so far figured out if CommVault can provide:If a remote site goes offline, we want local personell there to be able to perform restores. We would still like to gather all backups at the central location(s) though, and have centralized overview and control when everything is running normally…So the question is: Can this be done? I’ve tried browsing docs and whitepapers etc. but haven’t found anything that seemed relevant - can you have server tiers with (limited) local autonomy but still have central management and control?Please also note that our whole environment is very much closed off to the outside world, so any form of cloud service etc. is a hard no.

My Aux Copy jobs going to Metallic cloud storage have been stopped for the past three days. I’ve asked my network team if there are any issues and they are asking for the connection information. I can see my on-prem media agents easily enough but can’t seem to find any of the details for Metallic. How do I find network details on the Metallic cloud storage?

Hello! This morning I was all thumbs and dropped a tape. This caused the little pin inside to come loose and the tape was barely holding. I have to consider it dead now. Is there a way to flag the data inside to be recopied to another tape? Thanks!

I have upgraded to 11.36 and I just noticed my DDB backups run every 3 days now.Found why they changes from the BOLhttps://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/changes_in_commvault_platform_release_2024e_01.htmlSystem created schedule for deduplication database (DDB) backups are run once every 3 days. What is the reason they changed them to every 3 days ? I used to to have them run daily.  Thanks 

Thinking of renaming some policies and subclients to make them more readable.Does this break anything? Jobs? Retention? Schedules?Pretty sure Commvault tracks these by IDs, so it shouldn’t matter… right? But wanna make sure there’s no funky behavior hiding.Also , what happens if you’ve got one subclient doing backups and another doing replication for the same VM? Could this mess up snapshots or indexes?Like, is it gonna throw errors because two subclients are both taking snapshots of the same VM? Or maybe cause some weird restore behavior?Appreciate your help overall!

This process may take several hours to complete.Can I continue to perform backups while the cluster is being updated? (I'm thinking of the database log backups)We have a 6-node cluster, does anyone have experience with the duration? ThanksMichael
