We are still new with Commvault and AWS and more specifically fitting into a REAL budget. Recently there was a report of some drastic increase in charges for a small vpc environment. We are at 11.28.36 and are backing up a total of 18 EC2s with 1 Full / week and 1 Incremental / day (except on the Full day). The Storage Policy for retention is set to 30 days and 0 cycles. We also note that AWS recently started encrypting S3 buckets for free. We also have encryption AES 256 set,Also so note that the S3 was originally setup with versioning. We have since (12/2022) suspended the versioning and have plans to use a new S3 and seal off the DDB. We have never done a restore in this list environment.The question is how or if Commvault uses the GET, PUT, COPY, POST & LIST functions? Hi,we would like to have an environment consisting of one Active CS host in the production site and one Standby CS host in a DR Site. Also we would like to enable automatic failover. And CS host will act as proxy for the client. Commvault documentation, at least for me, is not clear about all the ports that we need to open.Could you please help me find out?I understood that ports 8405 and 8408 and also 8090, 8091, 8097 for HAC needs to be open between the two CS, both direction.But I’m not sure which ports I need to open from the clients to both proxy CS.In the documentation it says “If the SQL clients are used as the proxy, verify that all the clients in the CommCell environment can communicate with the port and hostname of the SQL clients in both the active host and the passive CommServe hosts.” https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/106081_planning_for_commserve_livesync_setup.html Thanks

Hi Team,We have physical servers distributed across the globe, interconnected through our MPLS network. These servers are has the File System Core agent installed.The configuration on the agents is as follows: For our initial backup, we performed in the past a full copy against our mediaservers located at headquarters. However, to optimize data transfer and bandwidth, subsequent copies consist of a combination of incremental and synthetic copies.Periodically, every X years, we need to refresh the hardware on these servers due EOS. Our standard procedure involves migrating data from the existing server to the new one. Once the data migration is complete, we shutdown the current server and rename the new server to match the hostname and IP address of the old one.Before shutting down the current server, I follow these steps:Stop Commvault services on the current server. we have done all in one server deployment on windows server 2019 ,and our security team has done some hardening manuallty , but they are not able to check the CIS Baseline/Hardening compliance foir are not able Apache Web Server and DB , what all are the security measures taken in 11.28 software especially for iis tomat appache and sql , we are not using CIS OVA image . is there anyway to check compliance for separate component
Hi Team,Just want check the configuration of Mailbox Backup. We have two media agent servers and the exchange version is 2016. Please advise the configuration of Mailbox backup jobs.Is it Outlook on those media agent servers and will use access nodes. And any disk limitation for Indexing (each media agent). - approx. 300 Mailboxes. Any license is needed for this backup from Commcell level (no archiving). Where will create the sub clients for mailbox jobs (either Exchange or media agents).
I have vm pack license and 1tb capacity license, am also taking file system level backup of some vms,but it is counted in capacity consumption, is it the expected behaviour,? In vm pack regardless of what kind of backup we are running this shouldnot count in capacity tb license right
I would like having a workflow for backing up Postgresql databases and restore a subset to another Postgresql client and instance by using DumpBasedBackupSet.So I started editing a clone of the “Demo_FileSystemBackupRestore”-workflow.I was able to change the “Backup” and “Restore” task to Postgres in ‘dataAgent’ and giving the instances.What I wonder: the field “instance” is of type String - isn’t there a way to fill this field automatically with all the instances of a given client? For we have Postgresql-clusters with several instances running …But where I am definitely stuck is at selecting the database to restore, neither Backup nor Restore include a field for specifying subsets of backuped data.Any hint to put me on the right track is very welcomed.Markus

Scenario:One Azure Tenant (“A”) with production workload only (Azure VMs, Azure Files, Azure SQL, & in-guest Applications).One Azure Tenant (“B”) solely for Backup resources (Media Agents, Blob Storage for primary Backup, Access Nodes, etc.).Both Tenants are in the same geographical region in Azure.Backup Azure resources from Tenant “A” using the resources from Tenant “B” with the Backup stored in Tenant “B” on Azure Blob. Why different Tenants? Mainly for administrative purposes (separate Users, Subscriptions, Network connectivity). Questions:Is this even possible? I’m aware that the resources used for Backup should be in the same geographical region, but what if they are in a different Tenant?From my understanding it should technically be possible, but I’m unsure about possible drawbacks (latency, egress costs, etc.)Any experiences or recommendations with such a setup?

Hello All,i am looking to a solution for my commcell issue which is:All job activity in commcell Activity control always turn off automatically.so all the backup jobs not work.
This option is available only for the storage policy configured with multiple partitioned DDB.When this option selected and if you have a partially available DDB that is one of the partition is offline The backup or Auxiliary copy jobs can continue with remaining available partition of the DDB. If option checked, the CommVault warn that this option may increase space consumption on disk. If I understand the concepts correctly each partition stores a unique collection of hashes and pointers. With this option checked, space consumption on disk can increase, because Commvault would need to deduplicate some of the blocks again. If this is correct,is the data verification job the kind of task that could identify if there are duplicate data blocks stored on disk? If the answer is yes, then it would be strongly recommended to run a data verification job after this option is checked. Especially with the DDB database completely available. Right?
Hi all,could you please explain to me the differences between deduplication on Client vs Deduplication on Media agent when taking into account NDMP backup and backup of VMs? Of course, for file system agent, the deduplication on client occurs on the client (server with os) itself. However, when backing up VMs (using Hotadd or SAN mode) what does mean deduplication on client? There is only pseudo virtual server client/agent, so deduplication (on client) take place on VSA proxy? And for NDMP backup - where is done deduplication on client? There, the data should be sent without any intervetion with filesystem, to be backed up. I will be very gratefull for your anwers!
2 SAP HANA servers have problems with the Commvault client. The commvault.service is not starting, no such file or directory.I did Readiness Check and Restart All Services from the Commcell console for the 2 client but it is not working. I tried to repair the software in one of the server but issue is the same.Any advise?
CS Version 11.24.78Issue: User ad object was deleted from AD and then deleted from Commvault.
