Hello, We are implementing a Commvault environnement and are trying to achieve the following :Backup file system of VMs with RDM attachedWe only want to backup virtual machine and FS. E.G the vmware object/config and the C:\ drive. Our goal is to restore a VM like a normal one, without the RDM, then re-attach the RDM (or a new RDM and restore data from a file level backup. It should work for standalone VM with RDM, as SCSI controller is in virtual compatibility mode. But for clustered VMs with RDM, the SCSI is in physical compatibility mode, and it seems to prevent us from backup/restore thoses VMs. What is the best practice for this type of backup/restore jobs ?Thanks
Hey all,I’m adding a non-domain connected vSphere to my existing Commcell (via the Commserve) and when I connect from the CS box to add the client, the connection failed immediately with:“failed to get member servers as proc APPGetVSMemberservers returned empty result”That error occurs after I hit browse on the subclient to view the VMs.I’m using a full admin vSphere account XXXX@vsphere.local - and I’m thinking this is not a Commvault problem but a domain/vSphere prob. So I’m kinda asking for some insight for those who have added non-domain connected boxes before. I have no issues logging into vSphere from a browser on the CS box (full admin, create VMs, delete VMS, etc) - but from CS console on the same box - I get the above error.
Hello, We run Commvault 11 SP 18.9 and ESXi 6.7 via Vcenter 7.If we upgrade ESXi to 7, will our version of commvault support ESXi7, or will we need to upgrade Commvault?Thank you
Good day all I have an issue with a Hyper-V cluster.I have 6 nodes that are all VSA’s.Three of the nodes were upgraded to Windows Server 2016. The remaining three are on Windows 2012 and are pending an upgrade.Since the upgrade it seems that the hosts in the cluster do no communicate with each other during a VM backup. If I use the upgraded nodes as the only VSA’s then I have on issue. Is this issue due to different OS versions? I’ve checked the account permissions on the cluster and the nodes and they’re all correct. The error is see is the normal authentication one usually associated to a permission issue.Error Code: [91:50] Description: Unable to connect to virtual machine host [CORE01] as user [xxx]. Please ensure that the access node is able to communicate with the host and that the user account and password are correct. Source:core05, Process: vsbkp Core01-03 are Server 2016 Core04-06 are Server 2012 Would the OS discrepancy be something within Commvault or something at a Hyper-V
vm server backup fail with the snap creation time and it shutdown the sever and cannot power on it back again. please help for this. Belowe error shows in commserver Error Code: [91:30] Description: Unable to open the disks for virtual machine [SIEM]. We have network drives we backup on DFSR servers on Hyper-V servers, up until recently we could index the backups and pick files for restores. This is now either timing out after many hours or we get the following error“Browse failed due to error while mounting virtual machine: Failed to mount VM for live browse” This is becoming a real issue for us because if we cant browse these files and folders then we have no way of restoring files for users, and as such our data protection is at serious risk
Hi We have one VM on VMware with RDM disk, backup is completed but without RDM disk. How we can make backup of RDM disk on VM with Commvault Regards
Hi, I'm new to Commvault and I have a question regarding the "Restore-CVVirtualMachine" PowerShell command. I wanted to make a script that will restore a VM from a backup created in the source VMware vCenter to the destination VMware vCenter using PowerShell. As far as I can see, the "Restore-CVVirtualMachine" command only supports restoring to the same original VMware vCenter. At the same time, I can easily restore from the Commvault console to the target VMware vCenter.Does Commvault support recovery from PowerShell to another vCenter?
is it supported the huawei gauss db backup in commvault
Hi all,I have a ploblem not see any vm in az1.dc.1
Hi Guys,We haveSpectraLogic Tape Library is zoned with the NetApp AF400 via the SAN Fabric switch NetApp can see the Tape drives over the SAN Fabric switch. VMware VM are on the NetApp.In one environment We have CIFS share on the NetApp which we would like to backup LAN-FREE to Spectralogic Tape libraryWe have VMWare VM which we would like to backup LAN FREE via the Intellisnap to Spectralogic Tape libraryhow do we achieve this?
Hi Team, I think there is no option to define the Vmware ESX hosts tag like defining the Vmware VM tag, but I wanted to confirm? Best Regards.
Hello! I’m trying to do a “full virtual machine” restore of a few VMs, and I think that something is majorly wrong with the system. Disclosure that full VMs are not something we have to do very often at all.About 6 months ago we switched from using a Dell SAN that had intellisnap support in commvault via Dell Storage Manager (DSM) to a cheaper SAN (a powervault) that doesn’t have intellisnap support. So at the recommendation of our Commvault local partner that we buy our licenses through, we switched our VSA backup type from NBD/Auto to SAN.Now, for the first-ever attempt of a “full virtual machine” the restore job starts, then I immediately get an error like below.Error Code: [91:81]Description: Unable to write data to the virtual disk [[iSCSI (ME2)] VM4_testrestore_delete/VM4_testrestore_delete.vmdk] because it is read-only. Please ensure that the proxy has write access to the disk. For SAN mode it may be necessary to use DiskPart to clear the Read-Only attribute.Source: mediaagent01
Hi All,I have build the License Server in the Azure recently with single cloud storage, its protect by DR backup. There is no deticated MA or VSA.My License Server/SQL was completely hardened and had lot of customization. So, rebuild the new Server with DR backup will be a tedious job during recovery process. Is there any other way to protect the VM and create a seamless recovery process? Is it make sense or works if I configure the CS as MA/VSA to backup same CS? TIA,Mani
Can I restore Active Directory from a snapshot of a virtual machine?Active Directory is a virtual machine. I have doubt if the restore of Sysvol, will restore fully.
Hey all,I am looking at configuring Periodic Classic Replication for some VM’s running on VMware Vcenter 7.0.2. Essentially I would like to run a replication job post backup from Cluster A to Cluster B in different locations. When Configuring through Command Center, selecting the VCenter and then selecting ‘Actions’ on the VM Group and clicking ‘Configure Replication’ it takes me to the ‘Configure replication group’ page that states ‘There are no virtual machines available for replication. Please select another hypervisor or VM group.’I am unable to select any VM’s to add at this point. The VM’s in this group are:Backed up and in schedule The VM Group uses a Tag in VMware to flag it for backup in the subclient The Destination is another cluster (in another site) in the same VCenter (though not got as far as selecting a destination) Streaming backups used for Primary Backup (No Hardware Snap) Version is 11.25.19 Both Clusters have access to backup data MA and Storage VCenter is online
Hi,I’m working with a customer that has an azure policy set that enforces all resources created has a set of custom tags during creation. This stops the VSA of creating a snapshot as expected.Cannot see anything from the documentation on this, but are the Commvault backup process able to set a set of custom tags on the snapshot during backup? Or would they require to disable this policy for snapshots?
Hello Community, We had some problem with one proxy server and we decided to create a new one in AZURE. Unfortunetly backup on new proxy server is not working for part of VM and backup doesn’t migrate the data after creation snapshot, but for another part machines VM backup is working well without any issue. The machines are in the same subscriptions. We checked almost everything and nothing helped. The case in Commvault MA is opened, but support is not so helpful and clamed that issue is on Microsoft site, but they didn’t recognize where the issue is. In log file only appears: “17 12:37:02 4409694 VSBkpCoordinator::OnIdle_Running() - Waiting for [1] VMs to be processed. [WFRPARESB019]”and“Failed to get page ranges for the entire blob. Fetching page ranges in segments”Incident ID is: 220727-453What I think is not working: access to resource snapshot in AZURE via API, but only for particular machines, If somthing is blocked access will be unavailable for all machines not only for half o
Hi, We recently had a customer who tried to connect kubernetes with commvault while using rancher.Everything was configurated and implemented correctly, but the authentication of the account used failed and we cannot seem to find why.We double checked the permissions, groups and authentication token of the user. Everything should be working. What could cause this problem?
Hello, i have a vcenter which contains a massive number of vms, each vm is in an individual subclient.when i try to browse the vcenter it takes more than 10 to 15 mins before viewing the subclient.is there anything to enhance the performance of viewing the subclient ? if i separated the subclients into multiple backupsets will enhance the listing ? if i separated the subclients into multiple backupsets will it affect the retention/dataaging process ?thanks in advance.
We discovered (the hard way, after doing a restore) that backups taken of vCenters in ELM contain inconsistent data and will likely break ELM replication if they are used to conduct a restore. We worked with VMware technical support to fix our vCenters’ ELM. It was a painful process.See https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/85662?lang=en_us which suggests some limitations of backups of vCenters in ELM. Not an exhausive list.I am wondering if anyone has encountered these limitations and perhaps there is a workflow we could use to conduct an offline backup? This would have to be during a scheduled outage, but it would be helpful to have some baseline clean backups in Commvault as a safety measure. I have opened a Commvault technical support case. I think we need Commvault to request support from VMware to develop an API or fix their broken ELM backup. The other community thread on this topic has an “answer” which is wrong. I can’t update that thread, so I am starting a new thread. For referenc
HelloThe following message occurred while backing up NUTANIX VM Snap:As a result of checking the log, it was confirmed that the uuid does not exist as follows. In this case, is it right to ask the engineer in charge of NUTANIX to check the uuid? Is there anything I need to check on Commvault?
Hello,Please, can someone give a general explanation about virtual machine backup on xen citrix? I'm not very good with the commvault documentation. Thank you!
I have been playing around with a feature that allows you to deploy VMware-based FREL and/or access nodes directory from Command Center. This feature works out nicely, it requires some aftercare for hwich I opened a CMR but it also raised some questions.I'm running FR26 with the the latest maintenance release applied, but the version of the FREL/access node that is deployed is FR25. The cloud portal shows a FR26 version, so why is it downloading and deploying an outdated version? Why is it not automatically being updated to the same FR/MR that runs on the CommServe? In addition to Commvault updates what about OS updates? How often is the OVA which is based on Oracle Linux being updated by Commvault? Will Command Center notify me a of a new build, and will it download and auto-replace the existing nodes with the newer version automatically reusing the configuration settings that were entered during the initial setup?Update → official documentation link: https://documentation.commvault.c
