We want to be able to restore all the data that we have archived for a customer back to the same server. They have archiving setup in both FS and a NAS location. They want to decommission archiving I can trigger a restore from the most recent synthetic fulll archive and restore all the data back to production servers; however just wanted to make sure it would completely replace all the stubs that were ever created on the source server. I was reading through the documentation as as I understand the retention of the stubbed data only works on copies at the moment the storage policy sends data to local ma and one aux copy to another location and third one to tape; so hopefully the SP retention policy wont apply to the local MediaAgent.“ Retention is only considered for copies that contain the job. Hi,My client changed the port number of his SQL instance to a specific number. His reason was to hide the instance for security purposes. However, it caused Commvault failed to backup that SQL database. with the error “Failed to validate the credentials for instance...”The client told me that everything that needs to point to that instance has to has the instance name like this SQLDB01,port-number\DB01 I wonder, what could I do in Commvault to back up this SQL database?Thank you.
Hello. Will greatly appreciate your feedback/guidance here. I need to enable intellisnap for subclients with the data on a netapp source. It’s vmware, and supposedly volumes that are “just volumes”: not nfs, not cifs or anything specfic to a particular application. The customer “doesn’t want NDMP in the environment”. I see in the NAS client there is, ndmp, nfs and cifs as options. How can I configure the nas client to snap ‘generic’ or just ‘ad hoc’ volumes for lack of a better way to describe them without using the ndmp or nfs or cifs agents under the CV NAS client ? I am not seeing a way to do this. The storage policy is set up with a snap primary copy for the source and a vault/replica copy to a destination netapp. The customer doesn’t want ndmp used and doesn’t want streaming method used. Is this even possible ?Thank you!

Hello, We plan to perform a CommServe hardware refresh from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2019. Commserve is on Feature Release 28, and the SQL server version is 2012. What is the upgrade path for the Commserve with SQL running in 2012? Do we need to first upgrade the SQL to 2014/2016 and then perform the Hardware refresh? Or is it possible to perform a hardware refresh without upgrading the SQL? The documentation doesn’t mention about SQL upgrade path. CommServe Upgrade with Hardware Refresh: Overview (commvault.com)

Hi,We’re running into a strange issue with hotadd VM backups.For some VMs we see the error “Failed to download config file” and “Failed to open disk”. This is never for the same VMs over and over again, but sporadic and always for different VMs.We have two SCSI controllers defined on the Proxy and each controller has a “dummy”/”actual” disk as the first disk. (As advised by VMWare: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2075069Has anyone ever seen this issue? Any idea what might be causing it?
Hi Team,I’m currently want to deploy a backup for Azure stack HCI vm backup. As per the documentation online, I can only see at the essential section where it need to configure using command center. When I looked at the expert section, there is no Azure stack HCI configuration. The way it deployed seems that the same as per normal HyperV backup, where I need to install VSA at all HCI node.My question is:Do the configuration only supported from command center and not from commcell console? The HCI node is based on HyperV core setup, without a GUI, how can I install VSA inside the HCI node? Using command line from power shell? Hello community,I’m wondering about cloud libraries redesign to provide offsite copies for resources protected in certain Azure region. Since we don’t have express route in our configuration, I’m wondering how to keep costs low. Basically, we are running at Metallic, but most of Commvault configuration is available to us. So, there are two major scenarios I’m considering:use set of new AZ Storage Accounts with native Geo replication (GRS) to keep egress costs more controlled. So there would be primary copy keep at hot LRS in RegionA and secondary at cool GRS RegionA (replicated to paried region) use Commvault native auxcopy, this will trigger significant egress upon transferring data from one AZ region to another due to extensive data reads. I get worried questions regarding protecting Teams and the payment models that Microsoft has implemented for Teams APIs. It seems as some backup vendors are avoiding backing up some Teams components to not put the customer in a situation where they will get billed by Microsoft. I have not been able to find any information about this in the Commvault documentation and I do not know the current status of this situation. Does anyone have some feedback on this. /Patrik

Hi we are running 11.30 and we want to start testing WORM Storage capabilities on our Datadomain. We have configured the retention-lock feature on Datadomain and activated the WORM Storage Lock on Commvault through the CommandCenterTalking to the Dell specialist, he has told us that there is a config that could affect on Commvault, the “automatic-lock-delay” value. That´s the time that the file remains “opened” while are being written on the DD by the backup aplication (in this case, Commvault), until it confirms the file closure and the it locks the file with the retention set before. As we don´t know how much time does CV need, we have set it to 120min on the DDHas any of you any experience with WORM on Datadomain in Commvault? Do you know how much time does Commvault keeps the files open on DD until are closed?
I have several of the CommVault reports (notably the “APSS - Missed SLA Report”) keep referring to clients and virtual servers (backed up with the Virtual Server Agent) that are either deconfigured (if a client) or removed from the VM group (if a VM).Is there something I need to be doing when removing a VM from virtual server backups, or deconfiguring a client so these do not show up on reports? I’m not sure why 100% of all deconfigured/removed VM’s are not showing up on these reports, only “some of them” Note: some of these were “last backed up” in 2015, 2019, 2020, etc. they all indicate “No Schedule” or “No Job within SLA Period” as the “reason” which is 100% true as they have been removed/deconfigured a long time ago.
Hi, I have a list of 100+ clients in commvault. I will need to add new AD groups to existing permission role for these clients in security tab at both client level and file system level. Does anyone know how to use CLI to do it instead of going through GUI one by one?Once I have this CLI command I can put together something in Excel and run them in bulk. Hi Team,I have this Scan phase issue where the scan took longer for one particular subclient (NFS volume) after Synthetic full job. Is there any setting / need add any additional setting to make this scan phase finish faster? From the logs and behavior, I can see the mounting not happen and the scan result from the logs is 0. after many hours, it will act to mount the snap and scan the folders. what may cause this issue?I only can suspect the subclient as the other subclient working as normal. The CIFS subclient for this same SVM have no issue.

So, I’m confirming whether or not I have encrypted backup data in my inheirited environment.I’ve run the reports at:https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/7865_data_encryption_reports.htmland not seen anything indicating encrypted backups (hardware or software). Specifically, nothing with the superscript “e1” on the Storage Information report or “E” on the “Jobs in Storage Policy Copy” report. I’ve followed this useful link:… to find:Ok. Go to the global dedup policy: This suggests that I’m NOT encrypted. However, if I go to one of the clients, I see: Looking at the help file for this dialog, I see: The reports and policies seem to indicate that nothing’s encrypted at rest. The client states that the data’s encrypted over the wire and on media somewhere. Which one is correct? =)
Hi Team, I noticed that there is a schedule to download software but it is not working to download the latest maintenance release, is it right this behaviour?Which one of these options should be selected?The last option if I choose, in this case,will it download just the 59 maintenance release and, for example, an future 73 not will be downloaded?
Hello Team! I have a server with SAP Hana configured and although the archive log jobs are running it is not clearing the log area. The /hana/log directory has reached 99% utilization and to work around the situation I ran the "alter system reclaim log". I would like to know if there is any configuration for the log area to be cleared after the Archive Log job is completed and prevent it from reaching the limit. Thanks!
Hello, Last week we upgrade OS from 2012 to 2022 with SQl 2019. And now i see that one of the user cannot qlogin on another client to run a script. Its saying that username or passwoord invaled. But with the same user i can log in on webinterface or command center. EvSecurityMgr::userLogin() - Socket [0x00000000000019AC]: LOGIN ERROR: Invalid login/password attempt with UserName With another user can i have no probleem to qlogin Now i want to create a new user but i need change from normaal password to Strong Paswoord -ps. Any idee how i do it?
